Something is totally fucked when I can sell four wastes for 170 and buy a Bazaar of Baghdad for 185, judging by current ebay pricings.

Curiously enough, you could do this in 2001, when wastes were $5 and Bazaars were 25-30$.

3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Super Bowl Predictions on: January 26, 2011, 08:29:48 pm
I'm sorta curious how many of you guys have actually been watching NFC games this year, particularly the packers.  As much of this forum tends to either be from a) Ohio, where they will show every steelers game or b) new england, where it will still be all AFC games that you care about, I wonder if any of you guys have seen Green Bay play more than the last three weeks.  As good as they are on paper, Aaron Rodgers is even better than that.  You are kidding yourself if you think that all the analysts and Vegas are wrong; if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and looks like a duck, it's probably a duck.  The packers are a favorite for a reason.
One point I'd like to make- The "analysts" are usually TV stars first and analysts second.  You'll notice they still pay more attention to per-game stats than per possession/per play stats.  They still pay more attention to the team stars than to the team balance.  They run puff pieces on each and every player during the Super Bowl run-up just to pump the attendance and interest.  I have much more faith in Vegas than "the analysts".

And while Vegas does want to encourage betting, they don't want to lose money.  If they put up a bad line and most of the betters win... they don't make as much money.  So they put out a line close to what they think will really happen, and maybe nudge it SLIGHTLY to try to make more action happen.  If they thought Pittsburgh was the favorite, the line would reflect that, so they don't lose their shirts when they pick horribly wrong.

Dead on.
4  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Movies that are still watched from 15-30 years ago on: January 20, 2011, 10:46:35 pm
You should have just known not to get snarky with me, you've been around the forum long enough to know that I don't take kindly to condescending tones.  I especially don't take it well from people I have never even nor will likely ever meet in the real world.  Comparing me to a 13 year old only furthers your effort to demean me over a subject that is completely irrelevant, and you should clearly also receive a warning in this situation.

I'm fine with a warning on this; frankly, I think I deserve one too.  I shouldn't have responded, but figure much like fighting in hockey, sometimes it's worth taking the penalty.

My point still stands; if you can't handle a little snark, maybe online forums aren't for you.  Grow up.  Learn that a little snark deserves a little snark in return, not some "OMG UR A DUCHEBAG" rant.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Movies that are still watched from 15-30 years ago on: January 20, 2011, 09:32:32 pm
you make a retarded topic that I take the time to reply to and warn me because I did so.
Why don't you go get a friggin job.
In other words:
1. You say hello so someone.
2. They give you the finger in reponse.
3. You shoot them dead.

And somehow you believe that you're going to jail "because you said hello"? I was really just gonna stay out of this, but the logic fail here was just too much.

Snakes on a Plane-  I know it came and went, but sometimes I get frustrated and have to yell out "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!  I have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!".  Warning: This will get you kicked out of an Applebees.
Oh man, please tell me that's the voice of experience talking. Too awesome.

I think it went more like this:

A: Movies!!

B: Yeah, movies too!!

C: lol B, fail @ movies

B: NO U FAIL @ MOVIES. RAAAAGE

D-G: B didn't fail @ movies...

A: B, observe my banhammer

C: ? Other "fail."

B: RAGE @ A

D-G: lololololol

Problem is in reading the topic as "Movies! Yay!"  It wasn't just that.  It was movies that are still relevant/watched.  I pointed it out to Juggernaut (in a slightly snarky voice), and he got butthurt and retaliated.  It's too bad this topic is going down in flames, because I think it's an interesting enough subject.  Some people just can't grow past 13 years old, where everything is personal and requires a display of public hair to show how right you are.

6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Movies that are still watched from 15-30 years ago on: January 19, 2011, 02:39:01 am
First things first - I wasn't saying those weren't "bad" movies.  I was saying they're not culturally relevant.

Lebowski isn't in bold.  I only bolded things that were essentially irrelevant in today's context.

And yes, My Cousin Vinny is essentially irrelevant today.  It's the kind of cut-to that Family Guy will do and have nobody laugh (not that Family Guy's been funny in 5 years anyway, but I digress).  I think it's remembered more for Marisa Tomei's bullshit Academy victory than for anything that's actually in the film.

I think we should better define cultural relevance though; I would draw the line between Casino and Goodfellas.  The former is a great movie; the latter is a classic.

Additions to the list -

The Shawshank Redemption (surprised nobody noted this yet)
Stand by Me
Reservoir Dogs
A Christmas Story
Hoosiers
Aladdin
Beauty and the Beast
The Lion King
Dead Poets' Society

A list filled with failure to read.  Even the several of the ones that I didn't bold are marginal cases, at best.

11  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Porphyry Nodes and Mishra's Factory on: August 20, 2010, 02:40:33 pm
It is the beginning of player A's turn.

Player A controls a Porphyry Nodes and a Mishra's Factory.  There are no creatures in play.

Can player A stack the Porphyry Nodes' abilities in the following order, allowing Porphyry Nodes to stay in play?

1. Clause B (If no creatures in play, sacrifice PN)

1.5 Mishra's Factory's ability (After clause A resolves)

2. Clause A (Destroy Creature with lowest power)

Thus resolving Clause A, Mishra's Factory, and Clause B in that order?  In short, would Porphyry Nodes be in play at the end of my upkeep?

Hi all,

This is Lori from Knight Ware Inc.

If there is interest,
I would be happy to have a vintage tourny on
Sunday of Labor Day weekend (9/5/10)

I was unsure if anyone would attend as this is typically an out of town weekend.

(originally wanted 9/12/10 but all the judges are going to portland)

What do people want for entry fee / prize support / # of proxies?

let me know

thanks

I know that myself and two other of my T1 buddies can't make it that weekend; going to SF for female companionship.  I gather that Phil is going to Portland the weekend of the 12th, but what about Jack Cummings for judge?
13  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: leyline of anticipation- Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir on: July 18, 2010, 04:24:00 am
I believe both effects apply in layer 6 and as such should be determined by timestamp order (i.e. whichever was on the battlefield last will be the last applied, 9 times out of 10 this will be Teferi, given Leyline's start the game nature)

This has nothing to do with layers and nothing to do with timestamps, and the two "contradictory" effects do two completely different things.  The Leyline tells you when you can cast something, Teferi tells you when you cannot cast something.  And any time one effect says you can do something and another effect says you cannot do that same thing, the 'can't' always wins.  So if your opponent has Teferi on the battlefield, regardless of whether you have a Leyline of Anticipation, a Vedalken Orrery or whatever else telling you you can play something, you'll still only be able to cast spells when you could cast a sorcery, that is when it's your main phase, you have priority, and the stack is empty.

Not doubting the ruling, but could you show where you found this?  It's helpful to reference when people try and say "nuh uhhh!"

It is looking like this this will be my first trip back to GenCon in nearly 7 years and I just wanted to gauge how many of the 'old guard' would be going also.  It would be great to catch up with some of the old Meandeck, Short Bus, Canadian, or California guys from back in the day.  Anyone making the trip?

Cash is deterring me, but it's not outside the realm of possibility I'm going.
16  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Leyline of Anticipation on: July 02, 2010, 12:31:19 am

Even if this card never sees play, its really awesome, conceptually,

Exactly.  I'm mesmerized by this card, just thinking about it in sort of pure magical terms: what it does mean, how does it change the way we play the game, or even think about the game?   The possibilities are increasingly fascinating, too -- which isn't something that can be said about most cards.  Usually the possibilities are immediately apparent, and then less interesting over time.   This card is endlessly intriguing.

I first saw it, I immediately asked myself the question - "Would I want to be forced to draw 6 to always be on the play?"  Of course, this doesn't let you lay lands, is 3x extra dead draws in your deck/hand, and adds the "EoT" factor, so it's not directly analogous, but still.  I think I would draw 6 to always be on the play, but what about 5?  Under what circumstances would I want to?  With what decks?

Yet another reason to love the good Dr. Sylvan-

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/prstanto/www/tmdquotes.html

Edit - Shit, how has nobody mentioned Dandan yet?  I think his post on Drop of Honey interactions is my favorite in the history of TMD.

Quote from: Dandan
"Imagine: 'Destroy target furry animal.' Only a furry animal can ever be destroyed by this spell. A fish, being a creature without fur (sans fur for those who live in Canada) is not going to be affected EVER. It matters little if the aforementioned furry animal boards a Stealth plane and so cannot be targeted, the fish is safe (barring a crash landing at sea). The fish is never a furry animal. It might evolve into a furry animal but unless it is an Oath mirror match the game should have finished before then. Even sticking little bits of fur on the fish won't work, apart from in casual games."

long sephiroth convo
Interesting. It looks to me like he's a non-native speaker, based on some of his sentence constructions ("go to the hell" "that done some many engineering stuffs" etc).

I've always had an inkling he might be Japanese/Pacific Rim, just by a couple of the strange word choices ("make me a hero") and by the fact that he's usually playing 9p-12midnight PST, which would make him being a Europlayer unlikely.

But who knows?  He's just an internet tough-guy who likes to annoy other people.  Case closed.

And Long.dec was named after Mike Long, who showed that LED, Burning Wish, Yawgmoth's Will and Tendrils made a pretty potent combo deck.

Anybody remember the name behind The Funker that Shane Stoots loved so much (Covetous Dragon + Urza's Block artifact mana + Welders + Blue Draw 7s)?
22  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: History of TheManaDrain on: June 10, 2010, 02:26:16 am
Oh boy, ICT and ABM... For all the hate ABM generated for Psyduck, he was also playing Stax decks long before anyone else thought they were any good, but his "reputation" killed any chance Stax had of getting anywhere on TMD until someone else picked it up and did well with it. I actually remember Holy Tommy Gun (WW/r if anyone is wondering) and D'Avanzoo as well, but they never quite got there.

I'll give my vote to Butterknives (Pikula? played it at an invitational one year, and I actually had it built at one point, including all 4 Juzams), D'VanZoo (What ever happened to Matt?), ICT (anyone who ever played whatever his name was would remember his facial ticks), and the early arguments on Gaea's Blessing vs YawgWill (Azhrei eventually beat D'Avanzo).

I don't think TMD can take credit for TnT, I remember that one being on BD (Along with Stacker2, the Ultimate Fat Burner and the original TnT, Mexican Christmas ((cause it was R/G for the Mexican flag, and it had the little worker dudes [welders])).  I do remember DuckTape.  And good times were had by all.

To my credit, I made fun of Semenman at the time of the original Brown Paper Bag list (BBS/Mono-U with Prohibit), and to my detriment, I made fun of JP for suggesting that Gush + Berserk + Psychatog would ever be playable.

I don't think MiracleGro started was T1 invention - I'm pretty sure Alan Comer had that one in 1.x before we ever got to it.  That being said, adding Tog + unrestriction of Brainstorm was a stroke of genius.

Anyone who can remember my epitaph/post comma name on BD earns all kinds of bonus points.  I was TracerBullet, the _____ __ ______.

This is why you don't let your kids grow up to suck cock...

.

I wish there was something legal I could do about this just to fuck him up.  I'm so sick of being the target of his shit.  I wasn't even ON under my name, he's just doing it randomly...

Here, Soly, I'll post this to make you feel better, though to be 100% forthright, I'm still not sure you're not Sephiroth yourself.

This was a conversation that took place after I beat Sephiroth in 3 straight games, one with his semi-casual jank deck.  He joined the game as <Michael French, the Osaka farmer>, and tried to pretend to not be Sephiroth at first, as he's wont to do.  I didn't post it initially because it's rather obvious that this kid gets his rocks off on you guys talking about him, and complaining about him, and saying how annoying he is.  It should be obvious to anyone who's ever read this thread that he's not someone you want to play a good game of Magic against, so anyone who does it from here out does it because they're enjoying his act.

The below is unedited, so take away from it what you will.  Personally, I think he's just a bored kid with nothing better to do than to annoy other people.  Not exactly uncommon on the internet, so if you can't deal with him, you're probably in the wrong place.

<Sephiroth, the Rapist> fI rape you
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> with my subpoar casual deck
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> time sieve ftw

<TracerBullet> mmmmmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmm
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> it shows you how terrible your playskill is

<Sephiroth, the Rapist> the rest other people, they lost
<TracerBullet> Do you enjoy it?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> I am above you
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> and I enjoy the fact

<TracerBullet> Okies
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> in mtg
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> there is no social life

<TracerBullet> but here's the thing
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> the community stinks
<TracerBullet> If you realize you're a joke
<TracerBullet> You surely realize that what you're doing is just wasting time
<TracerBullet> And if that's the case, why do it at all?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> Entertainment.
<TracerBullet> Apparently
<TracerBullet> But how do you derive entertainment from purely wasting time?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> I'd rather do that than watching tv
<TracerBullet> I at least know I'm generating entertainment by playing my games out
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> s?
<TracerBullet> Moreover, I'm getting better at the game by seeing more gamestates
<TracerBullet> But I get the sense with you, it's more about annoying people
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you'r enot, sorry
<TracerBullet> If that's the case, why do it?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> I dont' see any improvement on you
<TracerBullet> Righto
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> and haven't seen your play made me think "Wow"
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> Richard Shay played control slaver

<TracerBullet> Perhaps that's because I'm playing non-interactive decks
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> when i first played him
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> Yopu know, there are many CS players out there
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> none of them impressed me

<Sephiroth, the Rapist> Being a celebrity
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> HAHAHAHAHA

<TracerBullet> lol
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> actually, I laugh a lot on MWs
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> pissing people off

<TracerBullet> That's my point
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> thats the main reason
<TracerBullet> It's called anti-social personality
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i chuckle
<TracerBullet> You should look it up sometime
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> lol
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> seriously, i dont see many of you are worth for me to imrpess
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> no need to act like a gentleman
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> and try to make friend with anyone over mws
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> that's what a loser needs to do

<TracerBullet> but that's the point
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> like you for instance
<TracerBullet> It doesn't cost you anything to act like a human
<TracerBullet> It's not an energy cost
<TracerBullet> It's not a monetary cost
<TracerBullet> So why not do it?
<TracerBullet> You rather choose to act like a dumbass
<TracerBullet> It costs you to do so, if anyone were to ever figure out who you actually are
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> just raise the hell in MWS
<TracerBullet> In terms of potential friendship
<TracerBullet> So why not be a non-dick
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> One of my mottos in MWS...
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> Why so serious?

<TracerBullet> I'm not even talking be a good guy, I'm talking be a non-idiot
<TracerBullet> Well, people wanna play
<TracerBullet> I've played against you before where youv'e essentially given up on playing magic
<TracerBullet> And instead just acted like a dick
<TracerBullet> Wasting your time
<TracerBullet> And wasting my time
<TracerBullet> It's one thing to talk shit
<TracerBullet> it'
<TracerBullet> It's another to waste time
<TracerBullet> Like taking turns that aren't yours
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> why you still come back to me?
<TracerBullet> or doing random shit
<TracerBullet> I don't
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you should have fucked off
<TracerBullet> I played against "michael Frencfh" to start the game
<TracerBullet> I had a sneaking suspicion that it was you
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> its too obvious
<TracerBullet> But I didn't know for sure
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> thats your fault
<TracerBullet> lol
<TracerBullet> Why spend your time convincing people you're someone else?
<TracerBullet> If it's about the celebrity?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> because michael french sounds stupid, no offense.
<TracerBullet> I've traded with him before
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> he's from osaka...hahaha what the fuck
<TracerBullet> He's a nice enough guy
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i like to bully them.
<TracerBullet> Once again, anti-social personality disorder
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i am the biggest bully in MTG community
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> MWS is a bunch of geeks
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> so magic commmunity, too.

<TracerBullet> I think you'd find that you're among the biggest of geeks
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> but in my real life
<TracerBullet> Seriously
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i respect smart people
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> that done some many engineering stuffs

<TracerBullet> So why act out here?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> mathematical problem solvers
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i respect them

<TracerBullet> What part of your life says "I need to be a dick to others"
<TracerBullet> ?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> they dont play magic, of course
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i have a lot of ladies
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i sleep with them a lot

<TracerBullet> mmmmmhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> so...it's magic
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> the world is so small

<TracerBullet> Your'e like one of those people
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i like the game of magic
<TracerBullet> Who rapes hookers
<TracerBullet> And says
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> but i dont like the people in magic
<TracerBullet> "Who cares, they're hookers anyway?"
<TracerBullet> It's a violation
<TracerBullet> To act like a dick
<TracerBullet> Period
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> You sound like a pussy
<TracerBullet> No matter how much you detest them as people
<TracerBullet> You sound like a dumbass
<TracerBullet> Who has nothing to better to do with his day
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> think about this
<TracerBullet> Than to fuck with people
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> Have you ever seen me posted at any forum?
<TracerBullet> No
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> why haven't I posted in the forum?
<TracerBullet> As far as I know
<TracerBullet> I have no idea
<TracerBullet> There are many reasons why people don't
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> because, it's not worth the time.
<TracerBullet> But wasting other people's time is?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> I don't care about what people say
<TracerBullet> Seriously?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> I don't go post and defense
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> fuck that

<TracerBullet> I don't post anymore because I find that I'm usually giving more information than I'm getting
<TracerBullet> But
<TracerBullet> The point of this is
<TracerBullet> You're literally sitting around and wasting people's time
<TracerBullet> (sometimes)
<TracerBullet> (and by proxy, your own time)
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> its their problems
<TracerBullet> Insteado f posting
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i dont waste my time since i enjoy it
<TracerBullet> You're wasting your own damn time too
<TracerBullet> That's the point
<TracerBullet> There's something wrong with you
<TracerBullet> Something actually wrong with you
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> poor you
<TracerBullet> if you enjoy wasting people's time
<TracerBullet> No
<TracerBullet> Poor you
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you want to fix the great sephiroth?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> so you can turn me to become a hero

<TracerBullet> I actually do pity you on some levels
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> and bring to the world of vintage?
<TracerBullet> I don't give a fuck
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you want me to be featured in the next event?
<TracerBullet> I'm just trying to get someone who can apparently reason to use some of that reasoning ability on themself
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you want me to get in top 8 and drink milk on the final ring?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> haha fuck it
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> nerd fest

<TracerBullet> w/e
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> its not worth my time
<TracerBullet> I want you to not be a dick
<TracerBullet> That's all I really care about
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> if i am deeply into magic like you
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you notice how much time consuming
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> travel
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> get a hotel room

<TracerBullet> Who said anything about being deeply into magic?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> spend weekends
<TracerBullet> http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/antisocial-personality-disorder/ds00829
<TracerBullet> Enjoy
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> If I am not a dick
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> what do youw ant to see me ?

<TracerBullet> Who said you're not?
<TracerBullet> It's rather clear to me that you are
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> showing up a tournament and give a group hug to everyone?
<TracerBullet> Once again, who said anything about a tournament besides you/
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> its so comical
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> my casual deck beats you
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> time sieve
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> hahaha

<TracerBullet> Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
<TracerBullet> Good for you
<TracerBullet> I'm proud of you
<TracerBullet> You're a great player
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you suck
<TracerBullet> Best of all the players I've ever played
<TracerBullet> Did you enjoy that?
<TracerBullet> Was that what you were looking for?
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> ?
<TracerBullet> You feel satisfied with the last 20 minutes of your life?
<TracerBullet> Enjoy what you do
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> Hell yeah
<TracerBullet> Do it because you feel like it'll make you better
<TracerBullet> In some way
<TracerBullet> If you're doing it just to fuck with someone, you're probably doing something wrong
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> i am a life-time banned mtg player
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> for breaking sommeone's nose in top 4 match yuears ago

<TracerBullet> lolllllllllllllll
<TracerBullet> Even if I believed you, it would be irrelevent
<TracerBullet> You play MWS because you want to
<TracerBullet> Not because you want the rewards
<TracerBullet> Tournaments are about rewards
<TracerBullet> MWS is about playing
<TracerBullet> There are no rewards
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> Actually
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> MWS is pure TESTING
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you want to lose than win in MWS
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you don't want any luck in MWS
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> in tournament, it's opposite
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> you want cheap luck
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> and you want to win all the time

<TracerBullet> Those aren't counter to what I said
<TracerBullet> But the point still stands
<TracerBullet> This isn'ta bout you playing in tournies
<TracerBullet> This isn't about you playing for rewards
<TracerBullet> This is about you playing, and not being a dick while doing it
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> I have everything what I want
<TracerBullet> Perhaps someday you'll realize the value in that
<Sephiroth, the Rapist> there is no need any reward
<TracerBullet> Now I have to go, because I need to do other things
<TracerBullet> Maybe one day, you'll see what I mean

As a random exercise in trivia, feel free to guess at as many staff as people want - I have a full list and will mark them as we go along (have obviously given some of them away here).

I'll start - Puschkin

Finally got around to reading it.  Two points -

1 - Stop using the SCG model.  It makes you sound like a homer.  You could simply be more artful in the way you refer to alternates to Wizards' supported PTQs etc....

2- You assume that Legacy GP's successes are due to the non-PTQ format of the tournaments without ever sufficiently proving this claim.  Not to say that I disagree with you, just to say that you overstated your case.  Legacy is a ridiculously balanced format, where no one player can claim to truly have the advantage.  Couple it with an inherent nostalgia in today's cultural zeitgeist, and you have the building blocks of the most popular MTG format ever.  I simply think you ascribe too much to the tournament support and structure, and not enough to the play format itself.

You can't lie about derived information. If you can find a tricky way to answer "That's it, right? No other text?", go ahead. I can't think of one.

How bout "I don't know."  I think anything else could be perceived as intentionally misleading.

Yet another 25 year old player in the house, yo. Holla!

1984 was a special year for T1 players, and not only because it produced me!

Brief points -

Magic is a game of luck, and like nearly all multi-variable luck problems, impossible to play perfectly.  The truly skilled player is the one who can best manage these clouds of probabilities, ranging from the micro (in game probabilities) to the macro (metagame/deck building probabilities).  Each player has to assess his own skills in both areas, find his deficiencies, and attempt to improve.  That's the first difference between a good player and a great player; the ability to identify mistakes, both his own and his opponents'.  Meadbert (?) had an excellent post regarding this a few months back; to any player looking to actually improve their game (and not just play their game), I suggest you read it.

It's been said a couple times, but I'll make it a bit more brief- A player's luck matters in the short run.  A player's luck is irrelevant in the long run.  It's all a matter of sample size.

30  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Congrats to Magic's own David Williams! on: April 26, 2010, 11:34:32 am
Isn't/Wasn't he banned from Magic at some time for cheating?  I had read somewhere that he was DQed at a tourney for marked cards in the past but nonetheless congrats to him.

One of the only times I can remember somebody earning a ban during Worlds.
