1  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: Alternate Universes Holmes - Vintage for a Ruby - 8/16/15 (RESCHEDULED) on: August 04, 2015, 09:06:04 pm
As Will said our Sundays are jam-packed at the Blue Bell location (which is running better than ever). That was the reason for moving the event to our Holmes location. The Holmes store has a good feel to it with tons of parking and is also the location of our Online Store. Everyone should enjoy themselves.

Obviously some key information changed with the reschedule and I wanted to make sure everyone was aware. We've had to change locales to our store in Holmes, PA. Directions can be found HERE. Prizes will be Guaranteed for this event. Also the date has been moved to 8-16-15 so that we can work in conjunction with Mr. Calvin Hodges. We're excited to be back in the vintage mix and look forward to seeing everyone the day of!

4  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / [12-20-14] BBGD#1 Meta Report + Top 8 Decklists & Results! on: December 21, 2014, 01:04:17 pm
40 players showed up yesterday to welcome the return of regular vintage events to Alternate Universes Blue Bell. I want to thank everyone who was able to make it out and congratulations to everyone who did well!

Craig Berry is the person to thank when it comes to holding these events. We look forward to doing more events in the future and we only hope to improve.

Meta Report

I've chosen these breakdowns because I think it gives the clearest picture of how Vintage is currently shaping up. Workshop lists continue to flourish while Gush-based tempo lists slowly creep up on their heels. Mana Drains are slowly being eliminated from the format with only seven copies between two landstill pilots in the whole tournament. One Oath player even went so far as to name their deck "Mana Drain Control" while choosing to play two copies of the card Counterspell instead.

5  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Blue Bell Game Day #1 - 12-20-14 - WE'RE BACK! on: December 05, 2014, 01:07:06 pm
(Chas): Hello Vintage people! I just wanted to add a short message before all of the details. Alternate Universes used to host some of the most active vintage tournaments in the country. Playing host to tournament organizers such as Mike Smith & Nick Coss we were in my opinion a centerpiece of Vintage Magic for a long time. After talking with a number of regulars (namely Will Magrann who made the biggest push) we've decided to put Blue Bell back on the map. We're going to work with local Vintage expert (lol :p) Craig Berry to run regular events again @ AUBB. We look forward to seeing a lot of you. Now, here's the boring stuff:

Alternate Universes Blue Bell is pleased to resume hosting regular 10 proxy MTG Vintage Tournaments beginning on Saturday December 20th. Our first tournament will offer an Unlimited MOX EMERALD to the winner. Each player is allowed 10 proxies in they’re deck and may purchase up to 5 additional proxies for $1 each. Here are the details:

6  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: 12/1 Blue Bell, PA - NEV Series Qualifier on: November 25, 2012, 05:01:01 pm
Yes Mike,

Sundays are a no-go for us. We have our weekly YuGiOh tournament which gets 30-60 players as well as our pokemon league which gets 10-20 weekly. It not only gets crowded, but also presents a situation a good portion of vintage players would not feel comfortable playing in.

7  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: 12/1 Blue Bell, PA - NEV Series Qualifier on: November 24, 2012, 08:40:40 pm
Guys, Alternate Universes is a gaming store. Magic the gathering is not the only game we support. Solely to Magic itself, Vintage is a format that we have hosted in the past (be it with Mike Smith or Nick Coss) but it is not the only format that events need to be scheduled for. In December, AU as a store is booked for events outside of 12/1.

12/1 - Our store is empty.
12/8 - Our store is booked with a 20 man Warhammer 40K tournament.
12/15 - We're hosting our PLS Legacy Championship. (expecting 50-60 players)
12/22- We're hosting s Standard GPT (expecting 30-50 players)
12/29 We're hosting a Modern PTQ in Philadelphia (expecting 150-200 players so all of our MTG staff will be working)

Please consider just how difficult it actually is to schedule events in the NY, NJ, PA area before we start throwing words like "classless and disrespectful". This date AFAIK was originally slotted(4 months ago) for a YuGiOh pre-release that was pushed up a full month ahead of time. The date opened for us. We talked to Coss. He approved it.

Again, we're sorry for the conflict and the delay in announcing it, but this is the only day we have available.

GenCon should be neat !?

I've been trying to imagine the tone you have to use to exclaim such a question!?
11  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [FREE ARTICLE] Vintage Avant-Garde: Is Vintage Too Fast? on: October 25, 2011, 01:14:59 pm

sure you’re going to have the Oops I win with Vault/Key, Tinker/Blightsteel, but they are one ofs....

The problem is that these win conditions are so fast to end games, that the format becomes less about these cards being individual one-ofs, and more of 60-card "kev-vault" or "Tinker" decks.

My favorite part of these Bingo boards is how not even Mark put up my name. We played the same exact 75 on my recommendation for god's sake. Jerks! All of you!

it's clear that practice still makes perfect, at least for Vintage.

Had I practiced more, I surely would've won the dieroll against Chris in the finals this weekend Razz. Congrats again, Nick.

Paul, you're a pretty cool guy and all, but its going to take a hell of a lot more to dissuade Jason from playing Vintage...especially with his second T8 in a row with TPWA.
15  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: Blue Bell Game Day #15! May 14th! LEGACY AND VINTAGE ON THE SAME DAY! on: May 13, 2011, 01:43:50 pm
I seem to be getting this question a lot so I wanted to tell everyone at once.

No, you cannot play in both events at the same time. If you play in Legacy and would like to play in Vintage you will have to drop from the Legacy event. This is done in the interest of time and tournament progression. Sorry.

17  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Meandeck Open 2-20-11 RESULTS on: February 23, 2011, 01:00:45 am
@Gambit - that would be optimal, yes, but I'm pretty sure Magic is not scripted and cards are not drawn in a specific order every game. Bottle can be played both prior to and after Chalice on 1, where Needle can only be played prior to Chalice on 1. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
18  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Meandeck Open 2-20-11 RESULTS on: February 23, 2011, 12:27:18 am

Incidentally, this is the only card in Magic (that I'm aware of) that prevents you from playing a land (LOL).

Seeing as City in a Bottle has a narrow subset of cards it prevents from being played, I feel I must point out ALL of the other cards which do not allow lands to be played, no matter how narrow:

Cornered Market
Damping Engine
Limited Resources
Moonhold
Null Chamber
Pardic Miner
Rock Jockey
Solfatara
Territorial Dispute
Turf Wound
Ward of Bones
Worms of the Earth

You're welcome Smmenen.
19  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Meandeck Open 2-20-11 RESULTS on: February 23, 2011, 12:11:32 am
What Smmenen pointed out about City in a Bottle is mostly true except that DCI Foil City of Brass do not have the Arabian Nights expansion symbol so Bottle will not destroy these. Also, Bottle can be cast through Chalice on 1, which is one of the key plays for Shops against Dredge to protect its permanents.

Smmenen, from the standpoint of your average Magic player, I prefer my TOs to be without bias. Adding the comments that you did is simply not necessary from a TOs standpoint. TO reports are not articles and your ego-stroking does not belong there.

Congrats again to Max, and everyone else who made Top 8. I also believe Nick Detweiler(NYSE Stax) and Ronald Konak(FOW Ichorid) split the Sanctioned Vintage side event, though feel free to correct me. The finals were a bit of a downer for such a great event, but that is magic.

Also as an employee of AUBB, I just want to say how awesome it is to have that many people in our store at once. While we didn't top the largest tournament AU has held at that location, I'm sure the Mid-Atlantic Vintage crew won't disappoint in making it happen.
