I think the best card this can be compared to is cold-eyed selkie. Costs 3, and has a really strong effect when it connects. This is of course probably better as it nabs win cons out of tez and has the potential to combo off with time vault. I'd say this is probably a strong sideboard option, and mainboard if the meta is tez heavy.
2  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] Top 4 With Tezzeret: A Vintage Tournament Report on: December 07, 2009, 10:32:07 pm
This truly was a great article and congrats on the finish.
Your articles were the reason i started playing vintage. I have no idea why you get so much crap from people on this forum but you truly are an amazing player. The way you discussed every play was great in this article and you tried to cater it to ptq players too. The way you always said "i am not scared" ect was a good touch too.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Type 2 Monowhite Control on: October 21, 2009, 02:33:37 pm
Ok... if you say so. Based on probability by turn 5 your running out of lands, whether or not your testing indicates differently.
24/60=.4 So 4 in 10 cards are lands. By the time you've seen 15 cards, which is around turn 8 or 9 you've only seen about 6 lands.
If you count knight of the white orchid, (which works only if you're on the draw) it becomes slightly higher. But this comes back to the classic example, why run mana accel when you could simply run more lands, and use your mana for something more important?

just my 2 cents

SB I'd play devout lightcaster, and purge for jund and vamps, that's my main pull to mono white, you get to ROLL jund and vamps.
4  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Type 2 Monowhite Control on: October 19, 2009, 08:48:33 am
Ok, that's fair that you need removal. Well then i'd say cut journey, i think DOJ PTE and Oring is enough. The thing is you have only 24 lands. So by turn 5-6 you just won't have any more lands in your hand to play. I'd suggest more lands or amillary sphere maybe 2-3 just so you can keep making your land drops each turn until emeria or iona starts winning.

this looks like a filler

Don't be hating. This article was great, the idea of it was to show that grow is evolving into something new, not a repeat of old articles.
I liked the article thanks.

Mdal--
Baneslayer is a guy who is great at stalling for a few turns, Iona is your win con cause when it hits the board its most likely over. With bolts and paths and DOJ i see this deck stomping jund. 4 lumnarch assenstion seems too much, maelstrom pulse wrecks you. sorry i can't spell the new cards.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Type 2 Monowhite Control on: October 14, 2009, 02:42:52 pm
I LOVE the idea of a mono white deck.
Cards i don't like:
Kor carotgrapher he's too slow...
narrow escaper seems narrow xD
Journey to nowhere/O-ring

Cards i think you should  have
Path to exile!!!
armillary sphere

Iona seems great maybe just 2
Baneslayer randomly wins games to i'd say go up to 4.
8  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: stifle in fish on: October 13, 2009, 02:20:05 pm
I think that now that spell pierce has been printed it will take the place of stifle in fish as it is less situational.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: New standard control W/r on: October 02, 2009, 08:39:29 am
So i've given a great deal of thought to this deck (RW control) too. I'd play 4 baneslayer, and thens hift the mana towards more all white, Ex 4 arid mesa 2 terramorphic expanse 3 (the new land that comes into play tapped, taps for white, and if you control 7 or more plains you get to bring a creature back from the gy each turn) 2 mountains rest plains. Also i love iona as a bomb in this deck probably 2, and amilary shpere seems great.
So my suggestions would be (from your revised list)
-2 martial coup
-4 fallout
-4 lightning bolt
-1 ajani vengant
+2 iona
+4 amilary sphere
+4 baneslayer
+1 land
and fix towards a more mono white mana base.

creatureless is fine, but why not play creatures, baneslayer turns on their removal, but if they don't have it they just lose. Iona turns off their removal.

aside: Please do not assert that UWb fish belongs in this conversation folks. It doesn't. Any fish deck NOT running Tarmogoyf better have a good reason not to do so and UWb does not IMO. Tarmogoyf is the evolution of Fish decks that has allowed them to "keep up" with the evolution of other decks. Tarmogoyf says "you are on a 3 Turn clock with lock-pieces out" where before you could only say "you are on a 5-6 turn clock with lock-pieces out." Would anyone argue that triple time walk is ever something you want to concede to a player when they could go broken on any turn? I don't think so. Hence I really think UWb is off the table as a top-tier Fish deck.

So i feel like this seems wrong. I don't have as much expirience with fish in general, but tarmogoyf is just that, its a win con. UWB fish's idea is that all of its creatures double as win cons and disruption. Tarmogoyf is good, of course, i'm not saying it isn't, but is simply isn't disruptive to a say tez deck as much as a sculler, Med Mage, v clique or anything else like that. I'd say that BUG is the best, and the other two (UWB and GWU) are both tier two decks. I won't argue that one is better or not. But to say that UWB doesn't even deserve to be on the table, well it should be.

3 Browbeat  (The best I could do for card draw while keeping this mono red)

The deck is pretty much a burn deck... would a burn deck randomly play a draw spell?
Ex would an aggro deck play compulsive research if it was in their colors (red), no. It hurts your tempo too much and it is a mis-assignment of role, because if you are playing and aggro role, you win through tempo before the control role can take control of the game. Browbeat is slightly better, as you don't have to discard a card, but the card would be a land anyway, and the burn deck most likely wouldn't need it anyway.

Quote
instead of browbeat, burning inquiry draws 3 cards for  {R} then discard 3 at random.  not the best but for most of the cards being replayable through Chandras endgame, might be better than browbeat.  it also hits your opponent making it disruption as well.

This doesn't count as disruption... Of course your opponent could discard all their lands or spells or whatever and lose the game, but that is randomness which is not disruption.

Also both these are pretty... bad. They are just bad burn decks with chandra. I don't mean to be insulting, but they are both unplayable.
12  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Zendikar: Grazing Gladeheart and Hedron Crab* on: September 21, 2009, 02:42:44 pm
The crab will NOT work in mana ichorid. There are MUCH better cards to play, that aren't being played.  Mill will never be good IMO because there is already such a hard to deal with hate card to deal with it in gaea's blessing, which only takes up 1 sb slot, not saying it does now, but if milling ever got good it would be hard to get around it (ok you have extripate but there are always exceptions).
13  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Zendikar GY Hoser- Ravenous Trap on: September 20, 2009, 10:54:25 pm
I can see this card replacing tormod's crypt in many sideboards. Slightly better because of instant speed.  Overall it will see a lot of play but won't change things much.
14  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Spell Pierce on: September 17, 2009, 08:53:00 am
Yes it might end up being better than daze too. I completely agree that it is the best 1cc counterspell available in vintage.
When i played disrupt i found it amazing in almost all game 1s, but in game 2 all the good players played around it. Spell pierce is much harder to play around.
15  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Dredge in Extended on: September 17, 2009, 08:40:42 am
Hypnotist is bad simply because this is not vintage dredge, this is extended, so there are creatures... Just because you end up with 5 2/2s and make them toss their hand, you might not win against say the zoo deck with a kird ape and a nacatl.
Tome scour is necessary.
I agree that looter will end up being too slow.
Normally it is good to have your dread number = your number of targets
you have 3 dread returns and 4 targets, i'd cut one target.
16  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Spell Pierce on: September 16, 2009, 09:07:47 pm
The thing is this card is more than a force spike. I'll agree and say its most likely better than spell snare, but not daze, daze costs 0... I think it'll see a ton of play in fish, but still some play in a control deck.
17  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Admiral Ackbar Back in Buisness, Needs Advice on: September 15, 2009, 03:18:49 pm
suggestions
-3 snare
-1 rushing river
-2 kataki
+1 vendillion clique
+1 aven mindcensor
+2 null rod
+1 meddling mage
+1 hukyl's recall
isn't negate just worse than mana drain in your deck? (1 swamp 3 waste 1 mishra's workshop 1 strip)
I just never liked kataki, if you really have that much of a problem with 5c stax then play them.
Vendillion clique is really good, against most decks, disruption and fast clock.
Spell snare seems too narrow

Board-
extripate is good against multiple decks,
flux isn't as much
more seal of cleansing, good against vault key decks and stax
18  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: RWG Vault on: September 14, 2009, 03:03:56 pm
Bazaar seems good, you could throw in a couple of squees and up the life from the loam count if you need a better draw engine. gamble seems great.
19  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Dredge Questions on: September 14, 2009, 03:00:46 pm
The point of playing a deck like that with mana is that you don't have to mull to bazzar, if you find yourself doing that then think about switching back to a more traditional dredge without mana. Also with mana fatestitcher is amazing.
20  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Oath of Druids Post-Zendikar on: September 13, 2009, 06:39:42 pm
Because its an oath deck, wouldn't duress be better than thoughtseize?
If you are going to play drain, i might cut back on the wastelands and strip mine to help your mana base as you mentioned.
the living wish idea is interesting, but i agree that the jailer wish plan won't help stop dredge.
how would mindbreak trap add anything to the deck?
21  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Zendikar Card Discussipn - Archive Trap on: September 11, 2009, 08:39:11 am
I doubt this will be able to fit into any deck right now, maybe later mill might be a viable archetype but not now, unless you build a deck around this card, i don't see it having much of an impact.
22  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [Single Card Discussion] Blood Ghast on: September 10, 2009, 03:54:01 pm
Idea for a dredge deck including bloodghast
(by the way fetches and this card-- you can trigger him twice a turn and get two sacrifices).

4 bazaar of baghdad
4 golgari grave troll
4 stinkweed imp
4 golgari thug
1 dakmor salvage
4 bridge from bellow
4 unmask
4 chalice of the void
4 narcomoeba
2 dread return
4 cabal therapy
2 cephalid sage
2 flame-kin zealot
4 ichorid
4 bloodghast
3 misty rainforest (GU fetch)
2 dryad arbor
4 serum powder

board
2 bayou
4 emerald charm
4 contagion
2 oxidize
2 petrified field
1 windswept heath

Sphinx of Lost Truths might be a better replacement for cephalid sage
  {3} {U} {U}
kicker   {1} {U}
when {cardname} comes into play draw three cards, then discard 3 cards unless it was kicked.
3/5 flying

The sideboard as with most dredge decks can be changed depending on the metagame.

23  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [Single Card Discussion] Blood Ghast on: September 10, 2009, 08:42:38 am
Seems like if built right it would simply speed up dredge by a half a turn or so.
