Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Shuffling In T1...
|
on: March 26, 2004, 07:22:55 pm

|
I recently played at my first t1 event. No one shuffled my deck. Perhaps it was because they saw me shuffling my deck. Some didn't even cut my deck. There is something really cool about the t1 community always being friendly to each other, even in the most tense matches. I would never think of shuffling someone elses cards. If they cut my deck, i'll return the gesture, but thats about it.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / DISK!

Your crazy to not play 4 disks. Disk has single handedly won games for me. I can't believe people want to drop to 3 or heaven forbid, 2! I'd play 5 if I could! I'd say its the most essential "non essential card. ( I mean excluding standstill, manlands, and the standard 8 counters).

Slaver seems dependant on the deck your playing against. Perhaps its my inexperience, but i've played aggro decks where slavering them does almost nothing. In fact, most of the time I play aggro I would rather be doing Pent tricks then mindslaver tricks. Tog seems to have a much easier time with aggro.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Going the Distance: U/W Replinish combo deck...

Ok, maybe the deck sucks. I've never played a combo deck in my life. But I don't see why its better to use a Rector to bring in yawgmoth's bargain, because you still need something to get rid of him. With an intuition dump you could possibly put your illusion and yawg bargain in the graveyard. Replenish just seems more flexible.

Still dont' see why we're trying to break replenish with crappy enchantments. I think yawg's bargain is the best idea. I threw this together in between compiles at work. So forgive me if it sucks (no power either, since I don't have any), but don't hold back.
--stay alive for a bit-- 4 mana drain 4 force of will 4 duress
--our complicated, slow combo-- 4 replenish 1 necropotence 1 yawgmoth's bargain 1 mind over matter 1 capsize 2 donate 3 illusions of granduer
--find our combo-- 4 intuition 4 circular logic 1 demonic tutor 1 vampiric tutor
--might be good-- 1 yawgmoth's will -- i like mark tedin-- 1 mana vault 1 mana crypt
1 sol ring 1 lotus petal
--add some land

You know, I like his general idea of breaking replenish. People still play RectorTrix type decks, right? And they work. Dumping a really powerful enchantment in the graveyard and playin replenish is a whole lot easier then playing Academy rector, finding a way to sac it, etc. The whole intuition + replenish idea is really good. Well? What do yout think? we throw in some acceleration, and put in yawg's bargain and necro? maybe put a donate in for the kill? [/list]

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck Discussion] Control-slavery
|

I've been playtesting my unpowered build a lot lately, and I've found that against aggro, its almost always better to tinker a pent or some other fat before you go for the mindslaver. Far too often i've mindslavered, and all I maybe do is a really expensive hymn to tourach. Maybe I bolt one creature, have them waste a removal card, etc. Then I have to either start sacking my artifacts in hope that they topdeck something that allows me suicide, or we just go back to where we were. Am I just not playing the deck right? Or is aggro and sligh type decks just too tough pre-sideboard?

Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck]W/G Parfait......and an introduction
|
on: February 25, 2004, 03:26:50 pm

Disclaimer- I've never played with a parfait deck. My friend and I are putting one together for him though, and my question is, WHERE ARE THE SCEPTERS? It seems like a perfect addition. Playing an artifact deck? stick a disenchant on one. Creatures- swords. Maybe even an early orim's chant for the lock. Is this out of place for a deck like this? Also, from one who is going to be adding a lot of white to his blue deck, i'm paranoid about fast fat from TnT, Big O, or Madness. Would humility help in these type of situations?

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / great topic! Some thoughts i've been having...

I play a version similar, (but without full power. I just include 5, because thats what most tournies allow). So far my thoughts:
I'm loving intuition. It auto-dumps the mindslavers into the graveyard. (which is better then drawing one on turn 2-4 without a thirst). I also am going to start testing chain of vapor. Its awsome against aggro, but some other decks i'm testing against, it doesn't do too much, other then return a mox and maybe get a land saced). Now, perhaps because i'm not playing with all the jewelry, I can sometimes "stall" a mindslaver chain if I run out of artifacts, and can't get the opponent to commit suicide. I've actually had to resort to welder beatdown before! Anyways, great discussion, lets keep it going.

Eternal Formats / Creative / What to play? (somewhat budget, clueless about meta)
|
on: February 23, 2004, 12:07:49 am
|
Ok, I need help deciding what to play. Heres the story: First tournament since my old extended days (when dual lands were legal), and I have no clue what the Meta is. I can afford pretty much everything but the power 9. I'm a control player at heart, so I definatly want to play blue (and use mana drains ) Blue seems really slow without jewelry, so I think my chalices are an auto-include. (I don't want to loose to random red or some kid playing stompy). Now, I know "the control" deck is Keeper, or a variation (like the one being discussed in the big boy forums) thereof, but I'm not comfortable (or experienced enough) to only play 8 real counters. So, I could go boring and do mono-blue. Control-Slavery looks really fun, but i'm not quite sure if it works, you don't have the moxes, so you'd run out of things to sac if you can't force the opponent to commit suicide. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Win one turn with slaver?
|
on: February 22, 2004, 11:59:49 pm

I LOVE the idea to use Chain of Vapor. Its only 1 blue, and *could* come in handy even without the mindslaver, so its not like its a completely dead card until you mindslaver. Has anyone used this to good effect? I've also been testing intuition with mindslaver, it can either fetch something your playing 3 of, or make sure you get a mindslaver in your graveyard quick so you can start weldering right away.
