this thread is packed with content, great job guys.  Wink

the tournament was fun. granted, it would be funner if i could win a match, (thanks btw to adam, on a better day, i would have rode that draw to top eight, but alas...)
im really glad to see such a healthy type 1 following cropping in az. props to doug and eric for that one. every tournament, theres new players that crush me because apparently i suck at magic. but yeah. woot for fresh blood, and jays a fag. whut.

hey guys,

my name is billy, and im fairly new to vintage (about a year since i started playing in 15 proxy tournaments)
im 18 years old, i live in phoenix az, which has a moderately healthy type one scene.

i started playing in ravnica, my first tournament was the prerelease, and i recently sold my standard cards for vintage. hah. i fugure i would rather invest my time and money in a format where the cards retain value.

so far, i have played in about 20 vintage tournaments, the most notable of which was winning a beta mox ruby, slapping that tournament with ichorids and 2/2 tokens. iv made multiple top eights, including the recent mox jet tournament at GPLA, and some top fours in local tournaments.

i primarily play ichorid, and TPS, and am working on rebuilding my type one collection.

im mainly interested in finding halfway competitive players to test with on MWS, so please feel free to IM  me on AIM (ichorid123) or on msnm (wjgogol@yahoo.com)

Sorry for posting in this outdated thread... But i have the following question:
Could someone explain me how to play memory jar correctly? I have some difficulties to utilize this card...
When do you play tinker for jar over colossus? Is it as soon as you expect some bounce and you don’t have protection in your hand? If so, do you still pass the turn and hope, that jar will not get bounced?
Then if I „hardcast“ memory jar (in early game), I’m probably out of ressources and pass the turn. It frequently happens to me, that I cannot cast a lethal tendrils in the following eight cards drawn from jar. Now I have the problem that I find it quite difficult to create a heavy advantage out of my jar-hand. The only possibility I see is topdeck-tutor for will. But this is still an all-in play...

honestly, the most basic way to play with jar is to play spells, empty your hand, and float mana, and use your jar hand to win. this is the most basic way to play it, but i find myself using it defensively more often than not, as in, using a topdeck tutor to get a bounce spell, jarring, bouncing some threats, therin having them discarded at eot.  im even simpler terms, playing one mo off a jar hand and filling your yard for a will is card advantage. getting 7 new cards, even if they are artifact mana, brainstorm, etc, buries your opponent in card advantage, and will likely lead to your victory.

i also agree with the above points about infernal contract. the effect does not fit well with the other (read: better) conditions like necro and bargain

what is the consensus on a red splash, for recoup and empty?

also, on the same thread, thirst for knowledge?

If you are able to play a topdeck tutor before you jar, and then resolve whichever spell it was you tutored for within the jar...

why didn't you just tutor for Will (or Lotus if you have no mana)?

that would be a very specific scenario, in which you would like to get will, but your opponent has a threat or something that makes will awful( leyline, crypt, planar void,) so you TD the bounce spell, and refill your yard for the will.

i like your list, its very similar to mine and you might have convinced me to try out tfk with those opening hand examples.

my only problem is that i really cant get behind a ritual based deck that isnt playing necro. whats the deal with that?

billy here, well, personally i ran 61 cards because i wanted to run FoF and i diddnt want to cut gifts. thats really my only reason, besides to tell people i Sided chaos orb. Smile
i was really happy about my performance in the tournament, but i was kinda upset that matt decided to play it out after he saw that i decided to draw with ichorid. if he lost, i would have to play him in the quarters, and hes my worst matchup by far. i also had to hear about it all te way back to phoenix, which was a beating. if anyone has any other questions for me feel free to post them here, or pm me.

p.s. thanks for spelling my name wrong vagoo.
