Eternal Formats / Creative / You only though ankh sligh was dead.....

I've already mentioned the goblin set-up for a better creature base. But what I'd like to address is the current errata for Shrapnel Blast to clarify what it does, as a few individuals obviously do not. Shrapnel Blast InstantAs an additional cost to play Shrapnel Blast, sacrifice an artifact. Shrapnel Blast deals 5 damage to target creature or player. With the list given, he has 8 artifacts and the 2 fireblast. All I was suggesting was to change the fireblast to shrapnel blast. Do not lecture me if you yourself do not know what the errata on the card is. He does not need to include the artifact lands to support it, as stated before, he is running 8 artifacts to 2 shrapnel blast. -tech

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Can U/G madness Adapt to beat Oath?

I find that list to be oriented towards an artifact heavy field. With the afore mentioned maindeck 'flux and B2B it looks to have good game against WS based decks. I also notice it to be much more counter heavy than the usual builds floating around, making the match quite good against control while still maintaining its aggro win. My only concerns are curiousity draw engine being only at 2. Also that there is only 2 strip effects in the deck. Anyone wanna test this out on MWS or apprentice? I'm quite interested in seeing results for this particular list.

As stated before, I think a goblin creature base is much more efficient. You then could replace the chains for goblin grenade. Also, if you are going to run ahnk in your deck, instead of the 2 fireblast, you could use shrapnel blast in its stead. Its cc fits your mana curve quite nicely and gets that extra point of damage in. I also think slith firewalker is much better creature in the place of the 'pups, though it costs 2, its haste and ability to potentionally "gro" make it much better than the vanilla 2/1 for 1cc w/ the potential to kill yourself.

I was just curious to why is wonder in your SB? I think +2 Wonder -1 Arrogant wurm, -1 Waterfront Bouncer MD is a sound choice. This is one of the reasons why UG madness wins against aggro decks. Undercosted fat that flies. I'm also interested in your match-up agaisnt combo. When I was playing this deck, it was in an aggro & control meta, no combo at all.
Your match-up against Oath should be good. Your current list has 8 counters, and if they resolve an oath, you have 3 'Bouncers. Game one should be yours, albiet, not easily won, as they pack more counters that you. Games 2 & 3 would be more difficult if they are playing the meandeck version, since they will board in the "angel" set-up, but you still have good game since you get to board in naturalize. If it isn't the meandeck version, you should win w/ good gameplay. Though I don't know how you would do against the Eternal Witness/Yawgmoth's Will version.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Thoughts on Faerie Conclave
|
on: December 08, 2004, 11:11:15 pm
|
|
My thoughts on the conclave come in negative and positive responses. They are: Positive: 1) Any deck that requires manlands (ie: fish, landstill) needs more than the factories for the beats.
2) Besides being a manland, they tap for U.
3) They fly.
Negative: 1)They come into play tapped. Jeezus, in the early game this is really disheartening when you want UU for drain.
2) They are very mana intensive. There has been many occasions when I did not attack because I wanted UU untapped.
3) They are 2/1's. They can be hit by anything and just die.
Overall, I think they are a necessary evil. Until something else comes along, fish and landstill will be using them.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Do you Test Type One on a Regular Basis?
|
on: December 02, 2004, 11:41:30 pm
|
|
I tend to be a last minute playtester, but this only holds true to the weekly T1 tournies that I attend. When a larger tournament, or to say, a better prize structured tournament rolls around, I will playtest my deck against a gauntlet for the predicted metagame. Though sadly, its quite hard to get playtesting in as I work full time at the hospital. I usually always playtest w/ my brother, as the other magic players in town are "casual" players and do not take the game as seriously as my brother and I.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / An answer to Oath for Fish that doesnt suck (I think.)
|
on: November 07, 2004, 01:36:50 am
|

ok, im going to chime in on this one...unless your metagame is totally infested w/ oath, why bring this up? hate decks usually do not do well against the rest of the field...look at Oshawa stompy, its a great deck, w/ a maindeck full of hate, in theory, it should peform quite well in the new meta w/ all the workshop decks running around, and to put it str8, where is it? its not very good anymore, many decks have bumped up the basic land count and 3sphere really slows it down...w/ a 6 counter base, 10 if you want to include the mages, oath still has way more counters that you and they play back to basics, and you still have to deal w/ specific UW casting cost of the mage...im a great fan of UW, but w/ only forces as your only real hard counter, your going to have a hard time, its more of an uphill battle for this deck, im not saying it cant win, even w/ serenity, a good suggestion to deal w/ artifacts and enchantments, how is this synergistic w/ all the enchantments you play MD? you take the main draw engine of fish away, are you going to rely on the lone ancestral?

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] UBW Control (4cC minus Red)
|
on: November 06, 2004, 04:14:58 am

this looks like EBA, which in general is 4cC -Red...anyways, comments on the deck...does your metagame attribute the reason for 2 MD annuls? i really dont see a reason for it in the MD, maybe a few duress in its place? also i think with all the welder decks running around that coffin purge is not that bad in multiples in the side...i can also see echoing decay being played in the side at least, as a wishable target to get rid of multiple welders and fish alike...also, are you having good results w/ a 3 skeletal build? i ran a decklist very similar to this but w/ only 2 skeletal scrying and it worked out fine, though sumtimes i wish i had a scry on occasion, though my SB was a little different as there arent many workshop decks around my area (2 only) i used damping matrix in the place of the energy flux and tormod's crypt over the coffin purge...

it all depends, everyone uses different cards for their meta-game...try it out and if it works then keep on using it, if not then u'll know...personal opinion though, ive used it to sum degree of success as i shot down plat angel, metalworker, karn, and juggys...so its really your call on if you want to try it or not....different things work for different ppl
off topic, check your box for tournament info

@Hi-Val mis-d's are good against chalice black and sui....mis'd their hymn or sinkhole and you can screw up their gameplan quite a bit...this is from experience as im a sui player and had a hymn backfire .....sui is going to be a staple deck for budget players for awhile and has proven to a pain for a control heavy meta

Hello fellow type 1 players, ive ventured into type 1 a few months ago and rather play this format than anything else...i started playing magic around 7th ed. but played on and off and then seriously started to play again when torment came about, i was not able to buy cards for quite awhile since i live in a small ass town and didnt know where any card shops were, so my decks sucked ass....after finding a shop in Corpus Christi texas, an hour away from home, i started to play 1.5 quite frequently....then one sat nite they played type 1 and my MBC didnt hack it....i then sought after many vintage staple cards for black....i currently run suicide black and goblin ahnk sligh....my current meta is unpowered so it is quite a diverse crowd of decks....
