You need to make better use of wishes.  I would cut 2 merchant scrolls, berserk, and FoF for 2 wishes, 2 duress, and put berserk and FoF in side.
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Stax tech? on: April 04, 2004, 05:13:17 pm
You could build stax (or mud) without welder, but you will get owned by all decks running welder (and there are lots of them) and lose some power vs control.

What do you think about ground seal in the board.  I have been testing it and its been good, but there might be better cards for that slot.

Also, how do you board vs workshop decks?  There are so many things to side in, but I have no idea what to side out.
4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / u/r stacker variant (and notes from the dual lotus in ct) on: March 31, 2004, 12:12:37 pm
Have you thought about arcbound ravengers in this deck?  I have been playing a similar unpowered deck and they have been great, ravenagers dont speed up the kill very much but they make it harder to disrupt.

Ligthning Angel isn't good? I thought everyone liked Ms. America!

Most of lightning angels abilitys are irrelivent in type 1.  A 3/4 evasion haste guy for 4 wouldnt be so bad, but the three colored mana symbols in its cc really hurt it.

why run sphere of restince over chalace?  3sphere and sphere have bad synergy together, so I would only run one, and 3sphere is better in most cases.

You canNOT support 4 colors without power

I have been playing 4 color unpowered GAT for since the begining of last summer and it has been working well.  I play in a waistland light area, but if i saw more of them I would add in 2 or 3 stifles to main deck.  Red helps the aggro matchup (fire/ice and terminate SB) and workshop matchup.
9  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck] The Rock on: February 19, 2004, 11:46:56 am
This is type 1 here, you NEED dark rituals and yawgmoth's will.  and to make the deck more competive I think you should add in negators over the walls, its always good to have fast beats.  with all the aggro in the current meta you might want to consider spiritmonger, it owns aggro, but the 5cc without very much exeleration might be slow.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Help with U/W build on: February 17, 2004, 01:37:16 pm
I am not sure how competive your deck is, but it looks ok for your meta.

I would replace some of the basic lands with flooded strands, and add in 4 waistlands and 1 strip mine (though from your meta you might not need them.

You should have balance in there somewhere, maybe replacing a disenchant or WoG.

Do not use arcane denile, it is horrible, you counter your opponents spell then give them more cards to replace it with.  Replace it with misdirection, or stifle, or anything.
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Gro-a-tog on: February 15, 2004, 09:12:25 pm
I have been running unpowered GAT for a while now and most of your build looks good.  I think that GAT is better with either a white or red splash.  White gives you swords and a few wish targets, and red gives you fire/ice and lots of good SB stuff.  If you see lots of good aggro (TnT, BigO, Madness, etc...) then white might be a better choice, but if you see more weenie based aggro and control/combo then I would go with red.
12  Eternal Formats / Creative / Need help picking a deck on: February 03, 2004, 02:38:23 pm
You could try playing GAT, Its not hard to play if you have played other blue control before.  GAT is a viable budget deck, so with some power it could do fine.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Colossus.dec on: February 03, 2004, 02:30:16 pm
@soujiro:  Them swordsing welders/workers is a problem, but not too much of a problem for getting colossus out since I rarely hardcast it.  And I have started to run Bosh which is not only a great finisher, but it also saves my creatures from swords.
14  Eternal Formats / Creative / Colossus.dec on: February 02, 2004, 09:28:14 pm
@Danzig:  Yes, I do have enough mana to hardcast it, but I cant always do it early enough.  It is very possible for me to cast colossus if I get a metalworker into play but its not always possible.  If I could consistantly get 11 mana by turn 4 and still do other things I would run 4 colossuses but I just cant.  Colossus is the main finisher of the deck, I would rather run the triskelions over the colossuses because I can cast them consistantly.

@?ISuckatMTG?:  I compleatly agree about mind's eye, its huge.  It ruins the control players day, and makes windfall and wheel of fortune huge.  I might make room for another one.

@soujiro:  This is true, but most players swords the welders as soon as they come out if they can.

I am wondering about the creature base of this deck, I will go over the creatures and their uses:

Colossus:  This is just my huge finisher, it runs over aggro and with welders and workers to draw swords, and lighning greaves it can be too fast for the control player to handle.  Only need one because you dont want them cloging up your hand in early game.

Triskelion:  Its only a 4/4 for 6 but it is also my creature removal.  It is very useful to get rid of opposing welders and other mana/utility creatures, and its a 5 turn clock.  These are good to have two of because they are utility that I want to consistantly draw.

Platinum angel:  4/4 flyer for 7 is not a great deal, and it can be killed by artifact and creature hate before (or after) its effect kicks in, It would seem to just stall the game.  But this deck runs lightning greaves and welders making this card huge.  after I get greaves on it many decks cant handle it within 5 turns.  Its not always useful, but a 4/4 is good beating, good to have one in the deck.

Clockwork Dragon:  This is the second fastest beats in the deck (second to colossus of corse).  With the amount of mana this deck can produce it can easily stay at a 6/6 or higher throuout the game.  This card is mana intensive but a very good finisher.  This card could be run as a one or two of in the deck, but there might be more efficent creatures for this spot.

Bosh: 6/7 for 8 is not horrible, but with its flinging ability its a good deal.  If nothing else it can just throw itself at the opponent for 8 damage.  I will test this card as a one of instead of the clockwork in the deck.

Karn:  4/4 for with the ability to animate artifacts is a very good deal.  The only problem is that many times I dont have many big aftifacts in play to make this guy a one turn clock.  If I run this it will be a one of instead of clockwork or Bosh.

Pentavus:  5/5 for 7 is not very good.  But being able to split off into a bunch of one ones to be welded away sounds tempting.  If I ran this it would be a one of.

Dragon, Bosh, and Karn all will be compeating for the secondary beatdown slot in this deck.  Pentavus is intresting utility but I am not sure if I have room.
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / Colossus.dec on: February 02, 2004, 02:34:31 pm
@danzig: the biggest problem with colossus is that he costs 11 mana so I almost never what to hardcast it, therefore I dont want to draw it too often

@pern:  rozetta answered it pirfectly, welders and workers draw swords, not to mention that I can waist them with slaver or sometimes they dont have enough mana to cast it under sphere.  I frogot to post a side board but it would have 3 rack and ruins in it, I would still like to run a maindeck answer, do you have a suggestion of waht?

This deck tends to get mana flooded, it has 32 mana sources including the metalworkers, I would like to cut 2 or 3 lands but I dont know what to use instead.  I would like either some maindeck answers, more threats, or more disruption.  I have been considering Clockwork Dragon, Karn, Pentavus, or Bosh for more threats.  And Cunning wish or Fire/Ice for answers.

EDIT: I have been testing -1 seat, furnace, and tomb and +1 clockwork dragon, mind's eye, and gamble.
16  Eternal Formats / Creative / Colossus.dec on: February 01, 2004, 04:52:58 pm
First, the list: (unpowered)

Card draw: 10
4 thirst for knowlage
1 fact or fiction
1 memory jar
1 wheel of fortune
1 windfall
2 mind's eye

Tinker: 2
1 tinker
1 mystical tutor (tinker number 2)

Disruption: 7
4 trinisphere
3 mindslaver

Utility: 11
4 goblin welder
4 metalworker
3 lightning greaves

Kill: 5
1 Darksteel colossus
1 platinum angel
2 triskelion
1 Bosh, Iron Golem

Mana: 25
1 sol ring
1 mana crypt
1 mana vault
1 grim monolith
1 lotus petal
4 volcanic island
4 polluted delta
4 city of traitors
3 acient tomb
3 seat of synod
2 great furnace

SB:
3 rack and ruin
3 tormonds crypt
2 jester's cap
4 REB
?

This deck Just tries to win with colossus or one of the other creatures as fast as possible while disrupting the opponent.  It was based on the Extended bosh decks.

Many of the card dont require any explaining, but for the ones that do:

Mystical tutor:  This is just in here so I get tinker more often, with all the card draw and mystical tutor I can get tinker very consistantly.

Tinker: Tinker is not just used to fetch Memory jar in this deck, more often it will get colossus or mindslaver.

Trinisphere:  This card is amazing, It can stop entire decks in their tracks and barly hurts you.  At first I used sphere of restince, but It slowed me down too much, where as trinisphere only slows welders and artifact mana.

Mindslaver: This card can either wreak the opponents entire game or just win it. Mindslaver is an alternate way to win with this deck, by getting a welder/slaver lock.

Darksteel Colossus:  If you can get lightning greaves on this thing its almost a game over right there.  This card is huge, It trample over all sorts of creatures and is increadibly hard to remove.  Swords can kill it but this deck does pach 3 lightning greaves to protect it.

Platinum Angel:  Sometimes I had tinker and couldnt win before they could kill me, Much of the time platinum angel Is just a beatstick, but there have been many games where a lightning greaved angel won me the game.

Artifact lands:  This deck dosent run enough artifacts to fully abuse welder/metalworker, so these help a lot.

Sideboard:  Most of it has worked out well, but it still needs help, any suggestions?

I have a very similar list to this, the main difference is that I run chalace of the void instead of winter orb.  As for Minds Eye, I still like skullcap better, but if you face more control then aggro then minds eye might be better.  And I like bridges better than powderkeg in unpowered because it can provide a lock by itself vs aggro.
18  Eternal Formats / Creative / Competitive UB in today's metagame? on: January 30, 2004, 02:28:53 pm
I have been testing a similar deck to this one for a few days, but it has a splash of green for deeds.  I am unpowered so deed dosent kill my moxen, it only gets my shadowmages and sol ring.  Again, I have only been trying this for the past week, but the results have been good.

I think you should try to up your brainstorm count to 4, brainstorm just seems like a 4 of to me, maybe cut masticores.

I dont think that intuition is needed, AK with nothing in yard is still good on scepter, once you have 1 or more AKs in yard then its great, but intuition is just really clunky.
I would add one more wish, its just so good with scepter.

I know very little about fish, but I think that a 4th stifle would be better than that one Misdirection in here.  Also I never likes spiketails, maybe replace them with razorfin hunters.

i took out the time walk and replaced it with brain freeze. i usually only use the walk as a free land drop, which is somewhat useful, but the brain freeze makes it much easier to combo out (4 spells + brain freeze + tendrils = death instead of 9 + tendrils) for the same cost.

Do you mean that you cast four spells then play brainfreeze, it puts on another 5 spells to the stack then you cast tendrils?  Because I dont think that works, storm only triggers on spells that have been played, I think I saw that on wizards.com when scourge first came out.
22  Eternal Formats / Creative / Type 1 Rock on: January 29, 2004, 03:11:56 pm
The Djinns just are not very good, if you need more big creatures use spiritmongers, and you should use negators even though they are blow up by deeds because even if you lose it after 2 or 3 attacks thats still 10 or 15 damage.
23  Eternal Formats / Creative / Parfait on: January 28, 2004, 07:52:31 pm
Yup, Parfait........

The Reason:

My metagame is all unpowered, mostly aggro (Not TnT, madness, mask, and TheBigO)but r/g, elves, affinity, sui, and decks that play like stacker but slower) some control, but its mostly monoU, u/w, or u/b, and some MBC, very few big multicolor decks, and almost no combo.  So Parfait isn't horrible around here.

The Deck:

4 land tax
4 scroll rack
2 zuran orb

4 swords to plowshares
1 balance
1 moat
1 humility

4 orims chant
4 argivian find
2 Tithe
1 enlightened tutor

2 scepter
2 Jester's cap
3 seal of cleansing

4 Goblin charbelcher

1 chrome mox
1 lotus petal
1 sol ring
3 talisman of progress
15 plains

Choices:

Moat: Most lists I have seen run 2 humilitys, but because of my meta I use 1 moat 1 humility, Its just such a bomb.

4 Argivian find:  I see enough artifact destruction and counters to use four of these, they let me overpower control and are not bad against most aggro because lots of them run artifact destruction or discard.

Tithe:  These are mostly to pull off a faster kill with charbelcher.

Jester's cap: These are my weakest spots in the deck, It is mostly in there to remove the art/enchantment hate.

Seal of clensing: I origonally ran 3 scepters and 3 disenchants, but hated the scepters so I took them out and replaces the disenchants with seals, I put two scepters back in later on and not once have I wanted disenchant over this.

Charbelcher:  This card makes the deck so much more playable.  Sometimes I Tithe once then kill with belcher in 4 turns, Its just so good.

Talismans:  They barly slow me down at all and haveing them over land is important with tax and charbelcher.

No mox diamond: I origonally ran 14 plains and 1 mox diamond, but too many times I didnt have an extra land to pitch.

I do have a few 3+ color control decks in my meta, and these are my worst matchup.  They can counter then wish for answers, The main way I win against them is resolving a charbelcher or tax/rack with multible chants and finds, but I want to improve this matchup.

And in case you didnt catch on I am unpowered, so dont suggest power...

Discuss.
24  Eternal Formats / Creative / U/R Landstill manabase; does it need fetches? on: January 28, 2004, 03:19:40 pm
I really dont think the new manland is any good, having 1 power is too much of a downside to play unless you are going to run more than 8 manlands.

As for fetches, I think that 2 or 3 should be fine, the deck dosent want to thin out too much land but it needs the colored mana.
25  Eternal Formats / Creative / Biorythm: Janky or Viable? on: January 28, 2004, 03:16:30 pm
I think that the problem with this deck is that it is not good vs aggro.  That is the biggest strength of combo, that it autowins vs most aggro (with exceptions) this deck has a weak aggro matchup, and the control matchup dosent look all that good for this deck.
26  Eternal Formats / Creative / Retract, is it broken? on: January 28, 2004, 03:13:03 pm

i play rector-tendrils i find that i can ussually cast 20+ spells if i wanted to.

But you want to have the ability to win without casting 20 spells.  For example a good tendrils player can with over a pyroclastic pillar, where that is much harder for the brainfreeze player to do.  Its much easier to play 10 spells with chalace or sphere of restince in play than 20, the point is that when you are going off undisrupted it dosent matter how you win, its the other times that count.  Tendrils is just a better win condition and is worth the BB casting cost.
27  Eternal Formats / Creative / Dual-less Budget Decks: The Database on: January 27, 2004, 02:33:05 pm
I dont think that cherry parfait is the way to go with parfait.  I have been doing testing with mono-white parfait and have liked it much more.  The main reason to run red is for blood moon, but since parfait can just combo out with charbelcher it no longer needs to control the game for unrealistic periods of time in order to win, I will post a list when I am done with it.
28  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Welder MUD: Revised and set for '04 on: January 25, 2004, 09:35:03 pm
This deck seems light on mana with only 25 sources, most wMUD i have seen/played run closer to 30.  My suggestion is cutting the mindslaver and winter orbs for three city of trators (or acient tomb).

I also really like trinisphere, but I can't choose what to cut for it.  I want to test out at least two of them in my wMUD build, but they dont replace any of the other lock parts so its not clear what to cut.
29  Eternal Formats / Creative / UG Budget Gro - Criticism Please on: January 24, 2004, 11:08:34 am
Exactly how budget is this?  If it can go higher I would make it more like GAT or super gro.

Intuition is pretty mandatory when running Accumulated Knowledge

Intuition is not mandatory with AK, Its slow and without tog it dosent provide enough boost.  Even in GAT I think that Intuition is suboptimal.
30  Eternal Formats / Creative / DECK: Monoblack Pox on: January 23, 2004, 02:59:31 pm
I agree with petey, I like chrome mox in pox.   Since most of the time you still have to discard a card or two from pox why not just turn those cards into mana?  When it was unrestricted I tested a pox build with 3 Chrime Moxen in it and it worked out well.
