Evangel is not very good, but Guildmage is. What's a better replacement? Watchwolf? Wax/Wane?
Cut a blue card and add Azorius Guildmage and Coiling Oracle.

Assault Zeppelid or Trygon Predator would probably be a better choice than Coiling Oracle -  I'm not very sold on it, only because it seems unlikely to have UG up on turn 2 (especially with all of the bouncelands), which is to me the only useful time to play it. Any later than that, it seems like you're just getting a 1/1 cantrip out of it, and I'd rather just play a creature that's going to give me the chance to win the game quicker, as well as utility/evasion.

Just for reference, here's the list I'm playing:

Black (5)
1 Phyrexian Reclamation
1 Terror
1 Honden of Night's Reach
1 Smother
1 Trench Wurm

Blue (5)
1 Shoreline Ranger
1 Annex
1 Probe
1 Honden of Seeing Winds
1 Steamcore Weird

White (6)
1 Honden of Cleansing Fire
1 Radiant's Dragoons
1 Swords to Plowshares
1 Kami of Ancient Law
1 Orim's Thunder
1 Faith's Fetters

Red (6)
1 Flametongue Kavu
1 Ghost-Lit Raider
1 Lightning Bolt
1 Fireball
1 Honden of Infinite Rage
1 Dwarven Blastminer

Green (5)
1 Kodama's Reach
1 Civic Wayfinder
1 Explosive Vegetation
1 Sakura-Tribe Elder
1 Eternal Witness

Artifact (7)
1 Crystal Shard
1 Darksteel Ingot
1 Etched Oracle
1 Sun Droplet
1 Fellwar Stone
1 Sensei's Divining Top
1 Skullclamp

Multi (8)
1 Mortify
1 Trygon Predator
1 Moroii
1 Assault Zeppelid
1 Hull Breach
1 Putrefy
1 Terminate
1 Hazerider Drake

Lands (21)
1 Swamp
1 Island
1 Mountain
1 Forest
1 Plains
1 Snow-Covered Swamp
1 Snow-Covered Island
1 Snow-Covered Mountain
1 Snow-Covered Forest
1 Snow-Covered Plains
1 Selesnya Sanctuary
1 Gruul Turf
1 Golgari Rot Farm
1 Simic Growth Chamber
1 Dimir Aqueduct
1 Rakdos Carnarium
1 Vitu-Ghazi, the City Tree
1 Terminal Moraine
1 Treetop Village
1 Gemstone Mine
1 Mishra's Factory

Most of the card choices are rather standard (and I prefer running 7 of each card and 21 land rather than 6 of each and 24), although I've found Hazerider Drake (2UW, 2/3 Flying, Protection from Red) to be great - not only did I need a random U/W card to fill the slot, but it blocks most of the small creatures in the format, has evasion, and dodges a lot of the removal available. Also, Ghost-Lit Raider has been golden for me - he comes down and slows down aggro, or channels to get rid of a larger guy (and is quite nice with reclamation in play).

I'd be interested to hear how UWR fish deck beat Ravager Affinity.  It seems like even if the fish deck is lucky enough to get an early Null Rod that all of affinities creatures are just better.  The games where is doesn't get turn 1-3 Null Rod I can see it having any way to win.  Also I believe that the affinity player had Oxidize in the board which is a cheap and efficient answer to Null Rod.

I'm almost certain that in games 1 and 2, he hit turn 1 null rod (i'm sure he hit it in one of the games, i can't remember which one)... it might have been turn 2 or 3, but either way, it was early enough...
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / maddness in the new format well somewhat new on: May 18, 2004, 01:54:15 pm
right there is the reason why keeper runs exalted... your main plan to victory should be to kill them before the exalted hits the board... aggro needs to be fast, and that time your deck just wasn't fast enough... i know it sucks, but there's really nothing you can do about it...
4  Eternal Formats / Creative / Card discussion : Psychic Venom, new weapon for Landstill ? on: May 17, 2004, 08:43:15 pm
Psychic Venom is far too anti-synergistic to work with... standard LD would work better, and even that is a poor usage of slots...
5  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / SotF for Artifacts on: May 12, 2004, 09:28:55 pm
just when I thought that 5th Dawn would neuter Ravager Affinity, they have to go make a tutor for skullclamp... woe is Type 2...

anyway, as far as T1 effects go, I think this card will have pretty minimal effects... the mana restriction on the card is a huge roadblock...
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / Control WW? on: May 12, 2004, 06:04:15 pm
Personally, I've always been interested in Kjeldoran Outpost in a ww deck, but it might be too slow for T1 play... I suppose it's more suited for a white control deck (shudder), but I'd test it out and see how it works...
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Arggghhh....Scrubbing out-the official self help thread on: February 28, 2004, 02:19:31 pm
While I agree that focus is absolutely crucial, I think you can take that focus too far. I've seen players put so much energy into their games that by the 5th or 6th rounds they're completely drained. Staying loose, regardless of how things are going, is imperative for playing effectively... after all, it's only a game...
