I have updated the prize information! I am still working out is a good third place prize. Payout is even better than last time!

I'm sure Frank and I will be there for this one. Haven't had a vintage event in awhile in the area so this will be awsome!

It follows modern rules and eratta, there is no arguments about rulings that way...

Strip mine should make Land Destruction viable, something that was missing from the last tournament. I can say with 100% certainty that strip mine was unrestricted at this time. It wasn't till wasteland was printed that strip mine became restricted.

I will be switching up the format for the Winter/Spring one. We will be including Mirage block and just bringing it up one block each time after that.  I have tried not to ignore the comments from the first one and this was the most common comment.

well you may be correct, something ill dig into for the next one. Mana Vault seems like it was before that, As soon as I post the list I do not change it because it is not fair for people who do not check back here, so if we do another in the winter then I will fix it then. Mr. Nice Guy Games will be hosting a Throwback Vintage Event. The intent is to experience for a day what it was like to play in 1995/1996 era of magic. Only sets from this time period will be legal, The restricted list will follow a relatively accurate reconstructed restricted list. This will be the second throwback tournament, the first was a blast to play in! I have posted the link to the previous tournament results below to give you a feel for the meta game. Were hoping for some more player support out there, many of you seem interested after seeing the results from the first tournament and were hoping to build the format.

Thanks for doing the report Brian, I really appreciate it, you do a really nice job and I also want to thank everyone for coming. This tournament was a ton of fun! We will be doing another one in the fall, September/October time frame and well be keeping these going as long as their is interest.

Watch for the posting around August! I will be posting most of the remaining deck lists (or  atleast the arch types when I get some time).

There will be some minor modifications to restricted/banned lists for the fall tournament (thanks to people who provided insight/feedback to original time period b/r lists)... Were going to do some more testing but these will likely be the heart of the changes (These will not likely be the only tweaks so wait for the list in august):

1. Strip Mine will be unrestricted
2. Icy Manipulator will be unrestricted
3. Mindtwist will be banned (Ill be sad to see this one go, but it is sooo powerful in the format, and will be more in line with original b/r list, I found myself tutoring for it on more than one occasion for the win)

There was some interest in adding Mirage Block to the throwback mix and also a couple votes not too... So to try to accomidate everyone it is likely that this fall tournament would not add Mirage block in but the next throwback tournament following it will.

Yes Alliances is 1996... but close enough, we werent going to get everything perfect the first time around.

P9 is all playable, just restricted as stated in the list above. Its always been posted on here that way, but if you were at Rons last vintage tournament you may have heard us talking about just banning them,  but we decided NOT to ban them for the sake of having a true 1995 throwback tournament. As it turns out Power 9 isnt nearly as powerful in this format as todays vintage format. So this should be as close as we can get to the 1995 format.

I agree with you, (mana burn should have been left in the game to begin with), but when you start changing rules it becomes more difficult to judge, and some players lose interest with a different ruleset which is why we left all the rules alone and only changed what cards are legal, maybe we can get some more player input at the tournament for future ones. I really do appreicate the feedback, it helps me determine what people are interested in.

Also if anyone interested in this tournament can dig up some old tournament caliber decks from 95 and post them it may help others on their deck design... I am going to try to find some of the older archtypes and post them.

Well each time I host one of these I was thinking of doing it for a different time period. 95 was probably the most memorable time for me, which is why I choose it. Game was much simpler then as well ... I gotta say though that it will be interesting to view just how rules/eratta has changed decks that may have been good from that time period.
