2  Eternal Formats / Creative / MTG Newbie Trying T1 on: April 05, 2004, 02:27:33 am
If you've been playing Sealed Games for 1 year you should have some good techniques/skills, so I think you will have the playing ability to compete with some players, so T1 is not out of your reach in that aspect.

But I do not think Pox is a viable deck is T1, I think it's too slow is most cards are dead against some decks. For budget theres nothing better than Suicide Black (Chalice or not) or Gay Fish. Although I think the Elf deck in the Budget forum is excellent it scoops to many cards in common decks.

Good Luck
3  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Match Analysis Write-Up and MTG in UK on: March 13, 2004, 12:21:29 pm
Hi,

I live in England and MTG over here is dreadful, well at least where I played (I quit for 8 months) and the reason I quit was because I was bored of it because I used to win all the games where I went. They didn't play competively, which is great for them but made my games boring.

Now I have got back into MTG only to find out that the magic group where I played (~15 Casual players) have split up so I have to play online only, this helps in many ways but also lowers the interest level.

Pros:
  • Unlimited Card Pool
  • Automatic Match Details (Apprentice Chat Buffer)
  • Ability to record anything down at will on Notepad/MS Word for more complicated strategies.
  • Seemingly infinate number of players to play against, competitive.
  • [/list:u]

    Cons:
  • Sitting at a computer for every game?
  • Doesn't have the same atmosphere.
  • There are a lot of people who will waste your time.
  • A win isn't as thrilling as it is in RL.
  • Prized Tournaments are hard to find online.
  • Wishes are annoying to use.
  • [/list:u]

But playing online is my only option and I'm not willing to play MTGO because it's too expensive for something you don't physically own and I like to play with T1 decks which MTGO doesn't allow.

So now that I can only play online I am able to analyse every match I have using the Chat Buffer and then see where I went wrong and made a bad choice, this will be great for improving skills.

Does anyone have the same situation as me?

    Thanks in Advance
    Tom

Good report although I never knew what position you finished in the end? Did you win anything?

I am thinking of playing Gay/R but I don't have any:
    Mana Drains
    Moxs'
    Black Lotus'
    Library of Alexandrias
    Ancestral Recall
    [/list:u]

So I'm not sure if I could do well, hope you do well in future tournaments Smile
