@ Chiz

Sorry if you felt that the criticisms of a few players are representative of the view that out-of-town players are not welcome at our events.  This is certainly not the case.  As you, and ReAnimator, pointed out, the more players at an event the better - for both the prize support and the community.

@ Pac

I'm not sure if there are other reasons that reduced your experience at this tournament, let me know if there are.  As for the attempt to drop you... I hadn't heard about it, and I've never seen that at our events in the past.  It may have been intentional, as I'm sure you feel it was, but this was also the first event in which we have used result slips.  We switched to slips to avoid confusion over results submissions, but I guess there are flaws to every solution  Sad
8  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / [Results] Untouchables (Toronto) Black Lotus: 05/26/07 on: May 27, 2007, 01:07:10 pm
In another great show of support for our events, 57 players came out to play in our Lotus tournament at Untouchables!

Many thanks to all the players and to our two-headed judging team of Georges Rehak and Rob Johnson - a great job handling both the main and event side-events.

The side-event was started after Round Three of the main event.  This was a freeroll single-elimination tournament with brackets based on standings after Round Three.  The prize was an English Mana Drain, won by Chris Edmonds.

Due to the top-heavy first place Lotus, the prize structure looked like this:

1st - Unlimited Black Lotus or $900
2nd - $150
3rd - $75
4th - $75
5th - $25
6th - $25
7th - $25
8th - $25

Top Eight After Round 6

1. Eugene Lo, 16 pts.
2. David Caplan, 15 pts.
3. Ryan Trepanier, 14 pts.
4. Mike Antonarakis, 14 pts.
5. Owen Leskovar, 14 pts.
6. Paul Johnson, 13 pts.
7. Alana Saulnier, 13 pts.
8. Steven Wolfman, 13 pts.

The top eight players discussed an eight-way split and it was determined that at least one match was to be played out (declined split), so they went at it.

After defeating Owen Leskovar, Mike Antonarakis (who was now a semi-finalist) agreed to split with the remaining players, who had all been hoping for such a split.

As a result, Mike Antonarakis became the technical winner of the tournament, having defeated the most number of players and advancing the farthest in the event.

1. Mike Antonarakis $315
2. Eugene Lo $160
3. David Caplin $160
4. Ryan Trepanier $160
5. Paul Johnson $160
6. Alana Saulnier $160
7. Steven Wolfman $160
8. Owen Leskovar $25

The decks at this event varied widely, as they tend to do in all of our tournaments.  Sideboarding and proper maindeck preparations were key in advancing at this event.  Many people mentioned dropping their original decks prior to arriving, expecting a lot of hate for graveyard manipulation.  The main concern was Ichorid, but Flash Hulk also faced a field of sideboards full of Leyline of the Void.

In the end, the top eight contained some combo, some control, and some good old fashioned fish.  Congratulations to each of these finalists on their accomplishments.  Their deck lists follow below, according to the final standings:

Bumping this up a bit.. only 2 weeks away!

We have 45 pre-reg'd, which is about the same as our last event where we had 60 players come out.  We're looking at $550 in prizes on top of the Lotus with than turnout!

We have a contingent planning to come from Quebec and another from Michigan!

Prior to our March event some people were asking if we guarantee our prizes.  We don't expressly guarantee the prize but we haven't held back on a Power-prize tournament - ever.

We've held a good 10 events and are expanding, and with 60 players at the last event it's pretty safe to assume we'll get 26 for a Lotus tournament.

It won't be the only prize either - at the 60-person event we gave away the Ancestral plus another $800+ in cash: 2nd through 8th, a free second tournament for a mint English Mana Drain, and a door prize set of foil Masques Counterspells.

We payout very very highly.  The goal is to expand the T1 scene in our area and it seems that players support good events.

A great tournament, as the players above posted.  Many thanks to everybody who came out and maintained a competitive and very sportsmanlike event, as always.  It was very encouraging to get this kind of support, thanks for the compliments as well!

I'll try to get some deck lists up in the Reports and Results forum soon
