1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Is ww playable as a strong hate deck on: December 24, 2004, 11:53:55 am
You're already running blue and a large amount of basics, why not try Back to Basics for a little mana denial?  It seems like it could make Workshop match-ups better as well as a few others.
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Not So Parfait on: December 19, 2004, 10:06:07 pm
Is it just me, or are you entirely lacking a draw engine?  Brainstorm/Fetches doesn't seem to be enough, I'd think you need more, maybe Intuition/AK, but at least something.
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / Avatar Oath.DEC on: October 10, 2004, 06:50:22 pm
I don't understand how a kill card that takes up 5 slots and is more vulnerable is better than one that takes up 1 or 2 slots and doesn't die to random removal.
4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Old Faerie Men (Bringing life back into Old Man of the Sea) on: August 27, 2004, 09:43:35 pm
What does Old Man of the Sea do to workshop aggro?  The simple plan is just to not drop a Welder and go to town.  Even if you do get a Welder, chances are you wont be able to use it right away, so you can use the Welder to block a guy, but you wont be able to really use it.

It seems that Spiketail is a better choise, as it forces people to change their game plan.  I know that I've made a few mistakes before in the face of a Spiketail.  I really have to ask you what makes Old Man of the Sea better than Hatchling.

Also, it doesn't really seem that Flying Men is the optimal choice.  I would personally like to have something that does something besides swing, even if it is a 1-drop.  I would run Curiousity in this slot, as the deck needs more drawing that can't be easily played around.

Edit: also, have you ever had trouble casting CoW, like a choice between Crucible and a few other threats?

Just my 2 cents.

Actually, Doppelganger would be Mystique.  BERSERK MURLODONT would be Sabertooth, maybe?  Sundering Titan would be Appocalypse.  Goblin Welder would be Forge.

Edit: Exalted Angel would maybe be Wonder Woman, and Lightning Angel would maybe be Captain America.

Does anyone have a decklist for this Doomsday deck?  It sounds like it might be fun to mess around with.
8  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Single Card Discussion] Serum Visions in 7/10. on: July 09, 2004, 12:03:01 pm
Yeah, sorry about that, it should really be BFD, not 7/10.
9  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Single Card Discussion] Serum Visions in 7/10. on: July 02, 2004, 12:31:28 pm
I recently switched from Slavery to 7/10 Split as a metagame decision, but one thing has been bothering me.  Brainstorm can get you out of a tight spot, but sometimes a Brainstorm will give you three mediocre or bad cards that you don't need at all in that situation. Fifth Dawn may have given us a solution: Serum Visions.

I agree that Brainstorm is a very good and effective card, but I'm led to believe that it is better in a deck with 4 or 5 fetchlands to shuffle away unneeded cards.  The build of 7/10 I use (Rico Suave's), however, only runs 2.  This can lead to drawing 3 useless cards when looking for answers.  In this case, Serum Visions may be more favorable despite its Sorcery speed.

I know that Brainstorm is better when the top three cards are all good, or when the top card is bad and the next are good, but Visions helps when only one of the three is good.  The others can simply be tucked away to prevent bad draws for the next one or two turns.

I made the choice of running Visions over Brainstorm simply because a lot of the time I can't find the answers I need with only Brainstorm, and I know the next two draws wont get me them.  With Visions, you can clear away those draws, and the next card is random, probably with a good chance of being a threat, and answer, or more draw.

Here is my proposed list, credit goes to Rico Suave for the base of most everything:

//7/10

//Mana (30)
4 Mishra's Workshop
2 Ancient Tomb
4 Volcanic Island
4 Shivan Reef
1 City of Brass
1 Tolarian Academy
7 SoLoMoxen
1 Mana Vault
1 Mana Crypt
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland

//Guys (11)
4 Goblin Welder
3 Sundering Titan
3 Triskelion
1 Platinum Angel

//Card draw(11)
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Tinker
1 Memory Jar
1 Wheel of Fortune
4 Thirst for Knowledge
4 Serum Visions

//Disruption (8)
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Trinisphere

//SB:
3 Red Elemental Blast
3 Rack and Ruin
2 Gorilla Shaman
3 Blood Moon
3 Stifle
1 ?????

Note: I chose to cut one Trinisphere from the maindeck because lately I've been drawing two or three of them, and we all know they don't matter in multiples, except with an active Welder, and even then not too great.  Testing will tell if this is the right choice.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / A little help with Slavery? on: April 13, 2004, 07:59:22 pm
A local store has finally started holding weekly 10-proxy tournaments, so I will be playing Slavery.  I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the build.  I am trying to play it as close as possible to 5-proxy, just so I can get used to playing without the artifact mana and a timewalk.  * denotes proxy

Any help at all is greatly appreciated.
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Help with a possible trade? Bazaars and Power involved. on: March 26, 2004, 10:41:59 pm
A little news on the trades.  I may have to trade all for 'Zaars for the two Moxen.  I still think it's a good deal, but he said he has to think about it.  Worse comes to worst, I keep the 'Zaars and build Dragon.  Also, my $100 Emerald was actually UL, but I still think it was a great deal, because it's at least in excelent condition.
12  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Help with a possible trade? Bazaars and Power involved. on: March 24, 2004, 05:47:48 pm
I guess it's good to have a friend who has a complete set of everything up to Stronghold, who doesn't play anymore, and has doubles of Beta Emeralds.  Cool

Now, if only I lived in the northeast so I could play for more power.  Mad
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Help with a possible trade? Bazaars and Power involved. on: March 24, 2004, 03:53:43 pm
Ok, I'll try to get the two moxen, but I might have to throw in a little more or ask for less on the 4th Bazaar.
14  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Help with a possible trade? Bazaars and Power involved. on: March 24, 2004, 12:23:20 am
I should probably note that I'm sort of a newbie to type 1.  I played 1.5 for a while before actuallygetting into Type 1.

A while a go, I bought a playset of Bazaars for $45 a piece.  Now, with the price as high as it is, I'd like to trade them, but it's hard for me to decide on what I will trade them for.  One guy who plays type 1 at my local store is almost fully powered, and he is willing to trade a few moxen for them.  It's probably worth mentioning that I play Workshop Slavery, so any power is good for me.  Here are some possibilities.  Other suggestions are welcome, but I know for a fact that he wont trade his Sapphire, Recall, or Jet.

My 3 Bazaars
His UL Mox Ruby, possibly UL Mox Pearl (I think it's in color for him), and a few duals, probably UL Seas.

My 3 Bazaars
His UL Ruby, some UL duals, maybe a little more, UL Timetwister (could be PSA graded 8 or higher, according to him.)

The 4th Bazaar I know I will sell, because I can pick up a Beta Emerald for $100, and I should have money left over from selling a Bazaar.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
15  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck help] A little help with 5-proxy Workshop Slavery? on: March 10, 2004, 02:41:06 pm
I've recently started playing Type 1 and built a good WelderMUD deck, sans power (but with Workshops.) Lately, it seems that Slavery has become a little better than MUD, so I decided to try it, with one problem. It runs all 9 power cards. I decided to thin down the power to 5 of what seemed to be the most important cards, but I'd like to see what another's opinion is.

The Decklist: (Credit should go to Toad for this build)

Lands -- 16
1 Tolarian Academy
3 Ancient Tomb
4 Mishras Workshop
4 Volcanic Island
4 Shivan Reef

Mana Artifacts -- 11
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Ruby
1 Sol Ring
1 Black Lotus
1 Mana Vault
1 Mana Crypt
3 Gilded Lotus

Control Elements -- 15
2 Cunning Wish
2 Fire/Ice
4 Mindslaver
4 Force of Will
4 Chalice of the Void

Draw Engine -- 11
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Wheel of Fortune
3 Minds Eye
1 Tinker
1 Memory Jar
4 Thirst for Knowledge

Dudes -- 6
1 Platinum Angel
1 Pentavus
4 Goblin Welder

Sideboard -- 15
1 Shattering Pulse
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Stroke of Genius
1 Capsize
2 Fire/Ice
2 Rack and Ruin
3 Tormods Crypt
4 Red Elemental Blast

Card choices:

The Power: I figured it would be good to keep as much artifact mana as possible. Thus, Emerald and Pearl got the boot for Black Lotus. This opened up another proxy slot, which Recall seemed to fill nicely, fetching the combo faster.

Lotus Petal: I still needed another piece of mana acceleration, and Lotus Petal seemed decent enough to fill the place of a mox.

Platinum Angel: Karn didn't seem like the best win condition if I can't combo out fast enough against combo. A quick Tinker or otherwise accelerated Angel can win those games.

4 Mindslaver: Honestly, I don't know how many I should play. I'm only running two draw-7s, so 4 gives a greater chance to draw one, but if I do go down to 3, I'm not sure what to put in its place (FoF comes to mind.)

Other than these points, the build is pretty standard. Thank you for all your help and thoughts. Overall, Type 1 is proving to be a very diverse and interesting format to play in, and I'm glad I decided to get into it.
