3  Vintage Community Discussion / Community Introductions / Re: growing vintage on: August 22, 2012, 11:37:23 am
I think that there is a need for this post means there are bigger issues in growing vintage then just tournament scene. I think a lot has to do with obviously barrier to entry and what the metagame looks like. How fun is it really to play against Workshop or Dredge decks? People like to think they can interact with their opponents at times and those decks really don't. Even in Legacy, the Show and Tell decks try not to intereact at all but they have counters and permission to sculpt a game state to where they can resolve their win card.

I know I don't post ever, but I do love playing vintage when I get the chance. However, there are very few ppl in my area that play vintage or even have a desire to. What we do have is a ton of magic players. I have said for awhile that Vintage and Magic are 2 completely different animals. The way the games play out, the level of thinking that is involved, how fast things can get out of hand some times all lead to vintage being vastly different than magic the gathering.

I demand props for buying you a mountain dew. We all know how jewish magic players are when it comes to getting paid back, and the fact that I am in fact Jewish just adds to the accomplishment on my part.

This deck looks like a pile, I dont play as much type one as I would like, but everything Owen said seems true. He tried to help and you acted like a scrub. S.o stop being a scrub, because as the immortal group TLC said, "we dont want no scrubs"

Seems like you lost to real decks, and then beat (given free wins) by fake decks. Good tourney if you feel you were cheated out of the t8  :/
19  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Proxy vs Non-proxy on: June 25, 2009, 01:50:29 pm
I should have been more specific, sorry.

American metas are based around having proxies, are there any American reports out there for sanctioned events?
20  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Proxy vs Non-proxy on: June 24, 2009, 10:37:43 pm
If this goes else where, go ahead and move it please, sorry.

Ok, so most of the conversations that occur here assume that people have unlimited access to cards and can build anything they want. Most tournaments allow proxies and thus give these people that access to cards. The meta is pretty well defined in what you would expect to see in that regard. What I am wondering is, what is an environment for sanctioned Vintage going to look like? I have never seen a report for a full sanctioned tournament with no proxies and I am looking to play in one this coming weekend at Origins and wanted an idea what to take.
21  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Optimizing Tezzeret on: June 20, 2009, 10:17:37 pm

I realize this is a month late, but I just read this today.  Good times.

At GP: Chicago, a player who was mana-screwed was about to have his only land destroyed by Wasteland.  Out of desperation, he played Brainstorm and in response, Dazed it, figuring it was worth countering his own Brainstorm to save his only land.  However, his opponent was not about to let any of that nonsense go down, and played Spell Snare on the Daze......... you gotta love it.

Back on topic, I haven't been impressed with Night's Whisper at all.  Every time my opponent has played it over a different draw engine, I've been happy.

I guess I need to add a bit to this story. I was the player that mind-tricked the shit out of his opponent.I was running Team America and he was CounterTop, we had traded lands for wastelands for a bit but I had missed a second one after we reset the board on lands. So, he goes to waste, I brainstorm and then daze, and without hesitation my opponent spell snare's my Daze, and auto-tilts himself when he realizes what he does. The rest of it was pretty one-sided.

About Tezz, how much better is the Blue/Black versus the Mono-Blue? My friend is set on Mono-Blue, but I am trying to help him see that the black for Confidant/Discard is unreal. Does the Mono-blue have better matchups against certain decks that make it ok to run?

Here we go, 15 people, 4 rounds of swiss then a cut to top 8. Little disappointed on the turnout, but oh well. Pretty sure next time I will do prizes based on attendance or make it a cash tourney. Losing $300 hurts but you get the good turnouts with the bad, giving less prizes unannounced was never a thought either.
