Hi people. My name is Andrew, I'm from Montreal. I was a member here many years ago, I think my handle was just phoenix, and I was on MOTL a lot too. I remember some of your handles. Basically I was a T1 player, and I also collected misprints. In the beginning I liked to pimp out my deck, but as time passed I grew disdainful of the merely aesthetic frivolities, hehe. Which is why I've been out of the game since I think the beginning of Mirrodin. As time passed I went through important spiritual and occult stuff IRL, and I did not want to devote the time and money necessary to play magic. I also knew that the more time passed the more it would be difficult to get back into the game.
But I've found myself lately with some time to kill (long story), and I thought I would dip back in, maybe not too deep, and maybe not permanently, but at least a bit. Of course if I get to actually playing it would only be online as I've sold my collection, unless I can find old friends IRL to lend me a deck and I'd split my winnings. I have some general magic theory I want to discuss, I'll be making a post shortly. Anyways I never playtested enough to be 100% serious, or more accurately vice-versa, but I was a solid 96.5% serious about the game. Besides I generally stuck to playing things with Counterspells--way back in the day of BBS--or things with Mana Drains later on, so it wasn't aggro but it wasn't as complicated as some decktypes. I also focused around one particular deck to try and improve and bring to the top level, Urphid, and I think it was underrated, it would beat control by being more conservative and consolidated, and could side in Control Magic against aggro and Blood Moon against combo. But anyways that was a while ago, I barely remember the specifics! hehe
Hey I wonder if anyone from Montreal is on these boards? We had an excellent local T1 scene, back in the day at least, with monthly T1 tournaments and lots of power present. But maybe since lots of those players spoke French better than English, it wouldn't be so efficient for them to post much on English discussion forums.
PS I hear Morphling is dead, very sad.
