Also does anyone in the area drive to the SCG P9 series.
4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: The Fundamental Flaw in Vintage (Random Musings about Tournaments Luck ect.) on: August 11, 2005, 10:48:17 am
I totally disagree with someone who says that T1 is the most skill intensive format because deck construction is fairly easy.  The reason for this is because within an archtype there are much more set cards than in ext and std for example when building aggro workshop say UR, your only real card choices are like 10-15 slots that are the creature base and maybe a few other things besides that if you change the core deck to much it will eather become horrible or simply sub par.  If you feel that drafting is easier than t1 your nuts.  I do agree taht if someone sees jitte or some other bomb rare you obviously take it but when it comes to picks 3 and onward in most situations you actally have to make some difficult desitions expecially in pack 1 when your not set into a color.  As far as arguing that since you have a larger card pool and there for it takes more skill to build that is BS because you really only play stuff from a few blocks - the early stuff and then like URza's and mirroden and some tempest but in general you dismiss sets like the dark or homeland or mirage or ons so you really don't have as large of playable card pool as one would think.  As far as actually playing there normally is one clear cut play which is correct, except with TPS, but in other formats like block which is the better play you went t1 top and you have 3 lands in hand do you top during your upkeep or play sakura t2 when you are playing gifts or heartbeat.  I will say this in all formats there is a large aspect of luck but in non t1 formats it is earsier to deal with the nutty draws

Actually my parents spend a ton of money on my education, I have been in private school my entire life and am will be going to college in a few weeks.
That aside

we had 16 people including my self which was not enought for the emerald so i put up a library and a drain
the top 4 was 2 fish 1 landstill and 1 aggro workshop
fish v fish (the far better of the two players won)
landstill v workshop
finals was workshop and fish since i was the workshop player i gave him the library

considering that i only announced it less then two weeks ago i think it was a decent turn out even though i would have prefered to get more
I think another reason that we had a lower turnout was because a lot of the people in the area are away.
as far as decklists i will eventually get the t4 up
and i will also get the deck break down up eventually

7  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: 3rd in nj with tog on: August 01, 2005, 03:22:52 pm
I made T8 with aggro workshop and lost to Raj (stax) the winner
I know that 1 Oath T8ed along with a Pile that resembled Meandeck Gifts from what i saw of it it was piloted by Phil who's TMD name escapes me
the 4th t8 i can't remember
me and phil went 3-o then drew into the t8
I personally lost 3 games all day, 1 to affinity which got the nut draw and 2 in the T8 the second of which was me drawing 7 mana sources in consecutive turns with a Juggy in play and Raj having an Ensnaring bridge in play with 15 life
8  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: Type 1 Tournement in Summerville, NJ on: July 31, 2005, 07:24:10 am
it's very simple
Once you get off the train you want to exit onto Urban Dr. you want to make a left onto Urban Dr. (twards the McDonalds).  Then you make a right onto South Doughty Ave then make the first left onto West Main Street and Togit is on the left hand side in the middle of the block.

It is like no more than a 10 min walk and is really easy.

It is pritty simple to get from NY to summerville all you need to do is get to Newark Pennstation and take the Raritan Valley Line to Somerville to get to Newark you can take a North East Corridor Line train from Pennstation or a North Jersey Coast Line train from Pennstation.  If you are coming from the Hoboken station then you can get directly on the Raritan Valley Line.
You can get a schedual from www.NJTransit.com
from the schedual it looks like from pennstation it would take 70 min

Entry Fee: $15
Prize:
1st Unl Mox Emerald
2nd-8th dependant on turn out
probubly cash or product
We need 20+ people for the Emerald
if we get less than 20 people then the prize will be product or cash
If there is enought people I have a Library i might put up for prize.
On Sunday the 24 Simon(Nomad) ran a tourney in New Brunswick and 32 people turned out so i hope we get around that amount or more.  If we get that many there will be a Library for second and the whole 3rd-8th will reseave prize probubly product or cash.

If someone would like this moved to the tournement anouncement forum that is fine with me

Just give me an idea of who is coming
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: The Future of Workshop Aggro on: July 19, 2005, 11:24:54 am
the chalice doesn't affect you because you can kill it most of the time with a welder or a Karn and you should only play it after you played the relivant stuff
14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Possible Tourny at Togit in Summville NJ on: July 17, 2005, 12:42:11 pm
Ok well here's what's up.
I got an unl Mox Emerald yesterday so that would probubly be the prize but now togit has backed out saying they are not in the financial possition to run it as for 2nd, 3-4th place prize it would probubly be boosters or maybe a FBB Sol Ring
as far as cost it would be 15 or 20 it would be 5 proxy but you can buy more at $1 each
as far as location i will try to convice togit do just let us use there space but it might have to change
15  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Proxy Poll on: July 13, 2005, 03:54:24 pm
I voted 5-10 with the ability to buy more.  From the tournement organizer's point of view this is the best option because it allows people to try the format without a large initial investment so if they like it they may go out an buy the real stuff because in the long run having the real stuff is a better deal.  As far as the market for the high end cards goes this keeps the prices stable but could increase demand.  As far as a crash is concerned with this market it is highly unlikely because you have collectors and player allike trying to get this stuff not to mention a seemingly endless pool of new commers, those ext and standard players who have the means of investing in the high end cards.  Do note that this demand is a result of the increase in major type 1 events, i personally only started to seriously play type 1 because there where decent prizes, i feel that this is the major lore for other players along with the general format.  So i feel that by lowering the number of proxies you restrict the number of new players.  I also feel that any more complicated systems would cause trouble with people, players and organizers alike.  As for people not being able to find random cards you should come to a tournement prepared.
16  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: July 13, 2005, 10:15:44 am
        4 Night's Whisper
        1 Demonic Tutor
        1 Necropotence
        4 Chalice of the Void
        3 Umezawa's Jitte
        4 Phyrexian Negator
        4 Withered Wretch
        4 Mesmeric Fiend
        4 Cabal Therapy
        4 Duress
        3 Chains
        4 Dark Ritual
        1 Sol Ring
        1 Mana Crypt
        1 Black Lotus
        1 Mox Jet
        1 Strip Mine
        4 Wasteland
        7 Swamp
        4 Black Sac Land

From my point of view this would be an optimal build the Chains are very good and the therapy is good even if your not flashing it back
I think that the deck needs Sac land because in the late game you don't wnat to draw too many land
The crypt and the ring are both very good expecially because of the negators Jittes and chalices and wretches
I think the deck's goal should be a quick negator and to delay you opponent with the hand distruction
It may also be a good idea to splash blue for walk, ancestral and maybe a few other things just to up the power level
17  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Possible Tourny at Togit in Summville NJ on: July 13, 2005, 05:52:59 am
Unfortunately Rachel did sell the store this year and the new owner is letting Greege Graham run the magic stuff so i am talking to him i know he has unl power he might sell to the store for prize but if anyone is looking to sell power to the store for the prize he would probubly perfer that, but there are no garentees
I know that you can take the NE coridor to new brunswick and Jersey Ave and i beleive that Summerville is on a line out of one of those two stations but i am not sure
i do know that there is a trainstation and you can get to NY from it.
18  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Possible Tourny at Togit in Summville NJ on: July 11, 2005, 12:52:24 pm
I was talking to Togit about running a tourney within the next 4 weeks it would probably be for an unl mox and t4 or t8 prizes it will be 10 proxy and price would probably be 15-20 dollars i would like to know about how many people would come.  if this one goes well i am sure they would run bigger and better tournies
for those who are unfamiliar with togit it is located in summerville, NJ the store is good size and can easily fit at least 40 people probably much more, there is plenty of food around
if you have any other questions about togit or this possible event email me at hi_jeg2 @ hotmail.com
19  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Attendance at a Central NJ T1 Tourney on: July 28, 2004, 06:29:53 am
Being from NJ I realize that there are extrodinarily few T1 tournements reasonably close by so I desided to talk to the owner of The Only Game In Town located in Summerville, NJ she said that she  would gladly run a trouney if she knew that people would attend so I would like to get a estimate for the posible numbers
in terms of prizes the store is very open minded but would based on attendance, unfortunately the store has no power so it would most likely be cash based

The store's web site is www.togit.com
211 West Main Street
Somerville NJ 08876
(908) 725-7077

Tournements probubly would not start until september but would be relatively regular

So please make suggestions

22  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / GPDC VINTAGE Championship on: April 13, 2004, 07:34:54 pm
right now i have a fully powered(four proxy) GAT but could easly convert it to Hulk
so i will probubly run hulk
is it better to run the generic sb or is it worth running some anti-aggro cards like propoganda or more creature removal (smother etc) and it is worth running the duress and strip effects
basically i am asking is it worth changing the deck to be more anti-aggro
23  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / GPDC VINTAGE Championship on: April 13, 2004, 05:33:21 pm
I have never played in the DC area (from NJ) and i am going to the Vintage Championship there and was wonding what exactly the metagame will be (if it is any different from that of in NJ or Mass areas)
24  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Beta Black Lotus on: March 27, 2004, 09:24:49 pm
yes i know the ancestrall is real i have done many different tests on it i also compared the lotus to an alpha shaphire and an unlimited jet
the guy wants 750 it is in resonable condition as i said it has a very mild crease where it bends
the only thing that makes me think it not a refacing is that the back has the same crease
25  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Beta Black Lotus on: March 27, 2004, 04:19:13 pm
I am in the process of trading for a beta black lotus but i am very conserned with if it is real
my biggest consern is that it seems to be thinner than a beta ancestral that i am comparing it to
i tested if the ink bleeds but it does not
i have done a bend test and it came out with very minor damage allong the crease but returned more or less to it's original state
the thickness is what is really conserning me
what do you think
