1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: TRAVIS CON v2.0 result thread on: November 16, 2008, 11:36:49 am
I was the kid who got liek 1/3 of his collection bought before jeff ran outta money.

Sorry to the dudes who wanted to play for cash. It kinda sucks selling your cards.

I hope you make a Legendary Land called Camp Cachalot
3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Lawyer's I need some help on: October 06, 2006, 01:39:52 pm
Hey everyone, I'm not sure if I am reviving a dead thread, but I've dealt with this guy before. I got a UL Lotus and Pearl from him, along wtih some small foil cards. I traded both of them from him, so no money was involved, and he was nothing but nice. I have some information about him, but its all been posted already.

Basically, as another person who has delt with this guy, I want to offer my support to people who have been ripped by him.
4  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] Wheelchair Burn on: August 07, 2006, 06:49:13 pm
I've been playing slaver for quite some time, and one of my buddies always ran sligh. It was such a bitch to beat that deck, becuse he would burn my face in before I could really get moving. Granted, I was missing about 4 pieces of power, but using the direct damage on welders and REB'ing my counter magic made the matchup far closer than it should have been.

The deck has promise, but with that being said I would never feel comfortable bringing it into a large tourny.
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Single Card Discussion] Black Vise on: August 07, 2006, 06:34:37 pm
If they unrestrict Strip Mine, and possibly Balance, then Black Vise would be pretty good. Otherwise, I can't see it being played.
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Where do I start? on: April 28, 2006, 05:55:18 pm
I agree with mmathis.

I've been playing for quite a while, so while I had drains and a Timetwister, I still found it "hard" to play vintage.

I (unfortunately) went the "get pimp stuff" route before I finished getting power. None of my decks really clicked with only moxen and drains until I got an Ancestral Recall. Since then I've got a Lotus, and it just gets better and better. But I feel that the drains never really did much for me, and I was far happier having an Ancestral Recall in my deck than the Mana Drains ever made me feel.

So my advice to all is get that Ancestral Recall first and foremost (And skip the pimp stuff until you have at least 5-6 power).
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Crown of the Ages on: March 22, 2006, 11:04:11 pm
So, would it not change controllers if the permanent were not a creature?

Would this change if the enchantment-aura I was using was an Annex or Steal Artifact?

Thanks for helping me out with this!

8  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Crown of the Ages on: March 22, 2006, 04:07:58 pm
If I have a Crown of Ages under my control, can I switch my Confiscate to enchant a different permanent my opponent controls, thus gaining control of that permanent?

Thanks
9  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Your theme song on: March 10, 2006, 10:44:11 pm
I would use Stone Cold Steve Austins theme song. People would hear the breaking glass and piss their panties like little girls, hiding under the table to make sure Stone Cold didn't throw down a beer in their face. Perfect distraction while I resolve a Tinker.

Idiot Wind - Bob Dylan

From what is probably Dylans best album, Blood on the Tracks.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Favorite cover song on: February 13, 2006, 09:24:54 pm
All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix

All   of Dylans versions are better (except maybe his live versions- if you've seen him live in the past 8 years, you know what I mean). However, I think that the Hendrix version, with the sweet ending, was the best cover song I've ever heard.

12  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: So I need a new car... on: November 26, 2005, 04:49:41 pm
I've got a 93 Thunderbird, and the thing has been nothing but fantastic to me. I've put a fair amount of highway miles on it over the last 4 years at college, and cruising along at 90 mph is no problem for the car. Overall I've been very satisfied with the Thunderbird.

If you're not used to rear-wheel drive, it can be a hassle in the rain and snow.

Thanks to Steve for running this site for years.

Change isn't necessairly a bad thing, but I'm not looking foward to "TMD Premium"

"""If we are going by the logic that Lackey and Welder are only as good as the cards you play with them then..

Explain how birds is different.  If we are talking about cards themselves than Birds is an 0/1 Flyer that Taps to do one damage to you at the end of the phase."""  -Gimbles

That is the point I was trying to make- I didn't understand how Birds were different. Sorry if my post was unclear.

The three of those one drops (and shaman and disciple) are only good due to their interactions with other cards, and in my opinion the interaction that Welder and Lackey have with other cards is much greater than the interaction birds has with other cards.

15  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Evidence! on: October 04, 2005, 09:09:18 am
""Yes, I  My point is that the power level of Goblin Welder and Goblin Lackey is directly related to other cards in the format...
""Birds on the other hand is always good because any Standard green deck is happy about casting three drops on turn two. ""

So, Goblin Welder and Goblin Lackey are only good related to other cards, which makes them not the best 1-drop creatures in the game. Fine, that is understandable. However, Birds are one of the best 1-drop creatures in the game due to their interactions with other cards?   That seems kind of counter-intuitive.

Couldn't you just sac Seal to destroy the Smokestack...

Hey

There is a Magic club at UConn, with about twenty or so members. Some of us play Type 1. When I find out more, I can let you know. You can shoot me your AIM in a PM and I can let you know when some of us are getting together to play, since its usually at very random times.

19  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / What is the best way to get Power Cards? on: January 26, 2005, 09:58:09 pm
The best way to get the power cards is to win them. Second best is to get a job and save up for a long time, and buy them one by one at tournaments. Some people will suggest  buying or trading online, but that is usually very risky when it comes to high end cards, such as power.

20  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Broodstar Runner on: March 22, 2004, 10:52:07 pm
I played Broodstar Runner at the Dual Lotus tourney, following the exact list Samite Healer originally posted.

Through the 5 rounds I played (including the fake round 2) I went 2-2 with the deck, winning against Sligh and a GAT build, losing to Fish and Slaver.

Here are my thoughts on the deck-

Even though I met Samite Healer and had him pimp out my Myr Enforcers, they just didn't seem to cut it.  They never really hit play as soon as I would have liked. The 7 mana casting cost was usually reduced to 5, and could usually be in play on turn 3. This always seemed to be too late for some reason. (Probably because I cut the third Greaves for a Mox Jet, and they didn't see play enough.)

As I just mentioned I ran two Lightning Greaves as opposed to the 3 that Samite Healer suggested. They rarely came into play. The 3rd Lightning Greaves are definately needed.

Tangle Wire is total pwnage. After a first turn Juggernaut, playing a Tangle Wire usually means they will take at least 10 damage before they can do anything about it. When matched with the 4x Wasteland and Strip Mine that the deck ran, I found myself able to keep the Tangle Wire very effective.

With all the hate against Slavery, Broodstarrunner was pretty rough to play. Null Rods and Damping Matrix galore really sucked, espically game 1 before I got the Rack and Ruins into play.

Overall this was a very solid deck, but with the poplarity of Slavery right now, the field is full of artifact hate.

Does anyone else who runs Broodstar Runner have any similar thoughts, or solutions to get around the hate?

21  Eternal Formats / Creative / Fellow TMDers, I lost some cards during Tourney on: March 22, 2004, 10:33:43 pm
I've been keeping an eye on mtgnewsand magictraders watching to see if anyone posts these cards up for sale. I figure if he is stupid enough to steal the cards, he is stupid enough to post them.

I'm just glad I decided to run broodstarrunner and needed to borrow a lot of your power.
