1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: new deck idea,Painter's Servant on: May 23, 2009, 01:55:48 pm
wow yeah thats pretty sick, super regrowth at instant speed that looks like fun, i was thinking making the deck like a "rock build" BG hateist pact full of hand disruption and artifact hate.

Ive been looking for ways to abuse Painter's Servant, so here is what happened, i was sorting cards and saw compost...the problem is my deck building skills are awful. i was wondering if someone had any ideas on how we can use these two cards together, The down fall is you cant use REB to destroy everything, but you can use duress as a cantrip. I belve it can help Vrs icorid as far as letting you catch up to them. Its not the worest idea i have come up with really.

I dont think Illusions of Grandeur is a great card choice when there are alot of decks main deck REBs. i dont like people paying R to win the game.

CRYPTIC COMMAND?! really? i have to ask why i mean i love the card in standard but vintage? $cc spells in vintage should just win shouldnt they?
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / help with icorid on: May 17, 2009, 03:59:10 pm
ok this is the list that i like of all the ones ive sen http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=37625.0

I really like that build I do not agree with manaless icorid i dont know why i just dont, it seems to get hatted out easyier. As far as deck choice goes i love it, its easy to pilot (game one at least cause your just trying to win, where as games 2 and 3 you are trying not to fail). I will admit that I just plan suck at boarding i like the board he has but the meta changes all the time, would it be dumb to add carefull study or breakthrough in the board so I can play around bazzar hate? or should i be worried more about LOV? I guess what im asking is what S/B should i have and what do i board out for those cards.

My theory for game two is, while people are main decking grave yard hate, im supose to be siding in anti hate for your hate, which seems to me to be a bit counter productive, where as if i went with the carefulstudy breakthrough route i can just try to win vrs trying not to lose. yeah this sounds retarded I know but i want to get some thoughts.

i do like
If you're not running null rod...then why not 5 moxes? Also, mindcensor might be a good idea.

oh i like him dont get me wrong, he is great, but i was trying to keep the curve down to 2, he is something i would consider in the s/b, as for the off color moxen i dont know if its that great of an idea but ill test it and see what kind of results i get.

I know you don't like Tarmogoyf but man any R/G aggro deck should have 4 of him. He's just so big for 1 {G}. And he is hard to handle for most creatures out there.

he doesnt DO anything is the problem every creature in this format need to be disruptive, i think he might be a s/b option vrs other aggro match ups but thats about it.
10  Eternal Formats / Creative / red zone on: May 11, 2009, 03:34:10 pm

Quick introduction, Hi I’m Bob, * HI BOB* I’m a magicholic. I recently went to the tournament for the Library of Alexandria, for those who were there I was the one playing icroid with like 40 proxies until a gentlemen name Sean traded me just about everything I needed for the deck. I love this game and I especially love vintage.

My issue with vintage is having a viable aggro deck. And I don’t mean fish, I played fish for awhile back in the day and loved it, now I’m not to happy with it, but with all these new sets out people are bring back aggro from the dead. Me personally I don’t think I can play aggro while icorid is still viable I just don’t see myself switching decks.

I think people have the wrong idea about how aggro in THIS format works, creatures that don’t do anything but beat face isn’t the type of creature you need in a vintage deck, so when deck constructing you should ask yourself, this question “what does this creature DO?” for example Tarmogoyf. What does he do other than put people on a clock? Or figure of destiny?

I’m proposing this list.

red zone
4x magus of the moon
4x tin street hooligan
4xEthersworn Canonist
4x mogg fanatic
4xmox monkey
1xqasali pride mage
4x lighting bolts
4x REB
4x pithing needle
4x skull clamp –yeah that’s right I said it skull clamp!
4x waste land
1x strip-mine
4x taiga
4x savannah
4xwindswept heath
1x plains
Mox R
Mox E
Mox P
Lotus petal
Black lotus

Pthing needle VRS null rod, I have to say I love null rod, but null rod does NOTHING to icorid, and as we all know icorid wins 90% of all game 1s. Why not have needle in the board? I see no need for it in the board when it’s good vs. a lot of decks, like painter, or tezz.

And why for the love of god do I have clamp in this deck? It’s just a solid card and if someone plays a null rod or a needle naming clamp we have 5 main deck answers for that.
This deck loses to the “tinker opps I win” that big 7/11 shroud guy is a heart attk all u can do is race it.

I know this isn’t the best deck summery ever, I'm writing this at work lol, but it gives a general idea of how I think an aggro deck should look like in this format.

Remember, if a creature doesn’t do anything its awful, unless it’s something you tinkered out.
