Each day we will be offering FREE constructed tournaments (included with your membership) with the following prizes:
1st - Booster Box or 36 TIX 2nd - 18 Booster Packs or 18 TIX 3rd - 12 Booster Packs or 12 TIX 4th - 6 Booster Packs or 6 TIX
TIX can be used to enter tournaments at the convention, or to "buy" prizes including packs, boxes and singles.
The following card prizes available for purchase using TIX:
UNL Black Lotus, UNL Time Walk, UNL Timetwister, UNL Ancestral Recall, UNL Mox Sapphire, UNL Mox Jet, Beta Mox Pearl, Beta Mox Emerald, Beta Sol Ring, 4x of each Revised Dual Land, and other staple cards for Vintage, Legacy, Extended and Standard Constructed.
As an example of prize support an in-print booster pack (Shards, Zendikar, M10) has a cost of 1 TIX, actually most booster packs have a cost of 1 TIX, a Revised Edition Booster has a cost of 5 TIX, the UNL Black Lotus will have a cost of 325 TIX.
An example of our tournament prize structure:
An 8-man draft pod ($15 entry fee or 5 TIX) will have a prize pool of 16 TIX (2 TIX added to the pool for each player).
1st = 8 TIX 2nd = 4 TIX 3rd = 2 TIX 4th = 2 TIX
A 32 player constructed tournament ($10 entry fee or 4 TIX) would have a prize pool of 96 TIX (3 TIX added to the pool for each player).
1st = 48 TIX 2nd = 32 TIX 3rd = 16 TIX 4th = 12 TIX 5th = 10 TIX 6th = 6 TIX 7th/8th = 4 TIX each 9-12 = 2 TIX each 13-16 = 1 TIX each
If you have any questions please feel free to ask them. At some time in the future I'll post some scans of the Vintage stuff that will be available for prize support as well as update what their TIX cost will be.

D'oh! I didn't intend to make him angry I was just offering to give you and your tournament participants another venue to play at once Matt kicks you all out after your tournemant ends, especially those traveling 60+ miles to attend your events. Usually it is nice to have another location to go play more =) We shut down video gaming, screenings and RPG's at 10pm, but the MTG folks usually stick around for another hour or 6... Although I'm sure you guys head to Denny's or something for food and more playing. I hope your tourneys go well and I really do hope to make it to at least one of your events in the near future... maybe the December or January events.

Yet again I'm going to have to miss out because I'll be at a convention... depending on what weekend it is in December hopefully I can make it then =) I could really use one more drain, and I'm looking for an Emerald and a Ruby to finish off my set. Blah! I've even got a Timewalk for trade...
I tried swinging by last time but didn't get there until ~7:30pm or so and it looked like the store was closed.
ConnectiCon has member appreciation days the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10am until 10pm in Newington, CT and we've got product to run drafts of any block Urza to present for those of you who would like to play in an event after the Vintage events.

ConnectiCon will be offering a "FREE" (you have to be a member to participate) standard constructed tournament each day of the convention, with first place winning a booster box, 2nd getting 1/2 box, 3rd and 4th getting a 1/4 box. In addition to the free tournament we'll be scheduling booster draft events for every block from Urza's to Zendikar, we'll also be offering Revised Sealed Deck, Vintage, Legacy, Extended and Standard Constructed, as well as Elder Dragon Highlander events, and side drafts as they fill.
The organizers of ConnectiCon also host a monthly (2nd Saturday) event at the Newington Office and Conference Center, 705 North Mountain Road, Newington, CT 06111.
These events are called Member Appreciation Days (MAD), and are included in the cost of a membership for ConnectiCon, July 9-11, 2010 (an annual, 3-day, multi-genre convention in Hartford, CT). Currently a 3-day membership for the convention is $35, Friday Only $30, Saturday Only $40, Sunday Only $25.At our monthly MAD events, we run one Standard Constructed event $10 with a booster box added to the prize pool for every 8 players in the event, and a booster draft (block is players choice - we have Urza - Zendikar available, but the price varies between $15 and $40 based on the block played).
Hope to see some of you at our monthly events, and at the convention.
We will be offering a Vintage AND a Legacy event each day of the convention.
As the convention gets closer, I'll post more details about any Power9, Dual Lands, Fetch Lands, Mana Drains, unopened old school boosters/starters, that we'll have available as possibly prize support. Right now we've got 2 Arabian Nights Boosters, an Unlimited Time Walk, a Signed Unlimited Black Lotus, and a bunch of Revised Boosters and Starters.

I'm going to guess that my lack of a response is why vintage had such a poor turnout.
The prize pool for each constructed event consisted of 3/tix per player, so an 8 man tourney would award a total of 24 TIX to the top 4 with half (12 tix) going to the winner. Not a blanket 3 tix each to the top 4 players.
I'll try and do a better job explaining it for next year we've got a lot of product left, and plan to get more, as we won't be on a GP weekend next year. I'm hoping we can acquire a full playset of Revised Dual Lands for the FREE Sunday morning tournament for 2010, the convention will be July 9-11, 2010 at the Connecticut Convention Center.

After much deliberation amongst our staff, we devised a new prize support system other than - you get packs for winning. Instead, you get a TIX, a TIX has an intrinsic value of one normal retail priced booster pack ($4). With TIX you will then be able to choose what prizes you want based on their TIX value, some prizes will have a higher value than others, you will also be able to use TIX to enter tournaments instead of paying cash, so if you are really good, you might be able to pay for one tournament and play all the rest for free.
The Revised Sealed Deck as an example has a prize pool of 5 TIX (if I remember correctly, I don't have the prize chart with me - it might be 8 TIX/player) per player, with a cap of 8 players, and having a full event, prizes would be awarded as: @ 5 TIX/player: 1st = 20 TIX, 2nd = 12 TIX, 3rd = 6 TIX, 4th = 2 TIX. @ 8 TIX/player: 1st = 32 TIX, 2nd = 18 TIX, 3rd = 12 TIX, 4th = 8 TIX.
TIX are awarded to the top 50% of players in all events. If I remember correctly, a booster pack of revised will "cost" 5 TIX, so the person who wins the Revised Sealed Deck will get a revised starter, 2 boosters to play with and then either 4 or 6 more booster packs of revised, depending on the prize payouts. You can save up your TIX throughout the weekend to get one of the really big prizes.
Constructed events award 3 TIX/player, Draft Events award 2 TIX/player, 2 HG events award 6 TIX/team.
Sunday morning there is a free standard constructed event for registered members of the convention, first place is a Beta Booster + TIX, 2nd is a Arabian Booster + TIX, 3rd is an Antiquities Booster + TIX, 4th is a Revised Booster + TIX.

8.5 Unified Deck Construction Rules Team Constructed tournaments use Unified Deck Construction rules: With the exception of cards with the Basic supertype or cards with text that specifies otherwise, a team’s combined decks may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its English card title. (For example, if one player is using four copies of Naturalize in a Multiplayer Constructed tournament, no other player on that team may have a Naturalize in his or her deck.) If a card is restricted in a particular format, no more than one of that card may be used by the team. No players may use cards that are banned in a particular format.

After quite a bit of discussion, we're going to allow the following quantity of proxies for Vintage and Legacy events at ConnectiCon 2009 (we will still hold ONE sanctioned event for Vintage and Legacy during the weekend, if enough players want to play in one, but it won't be one of the vintage or legacy tournaments on the schedule).
Vintage 15 Proxies TOTAL Legacy 5 Proxies TOTAL
Hopefully, this will make a few folks happy.

Can't wait for everyone to find out that Revised Sealed is actually a really shitty format.
It isn't so bad... some of the most fun I had, when I first started playing was playing sealed deck with my friends... we were awful though, and just put all the cards we got and played the starter as is... it was probably 3 months later we found some rules on how to really play sealed deck... April-June 1994 was good times!

Yes, all the events will be sanctioned events (at least that is the plan for now).
Our dates for ConnectiCon 2009 were booked in June 2008, well before any announcement was made about GP: Boston. We did not intentially schedule our event to coincide with other MTG events, ConnectiCon is multi-genre convention and is entering its 7th year, and had over 6,000 attendees last year.
We've been planning to expand our Magic: The Gathering tournament events for the past three years, and have done so each year offering more constructed, and draft play. Because people need to purchase a membership to attend the convention, we offer a free tournament each year on Sunday with a big prize, last year we gave away an EX condition Unlimited Mox Jet for the tournament, this year we're going:
1st: Sealed Beta Booster Pack 2nd: Sealer Arabian Nights Booster Pack 3rd: Antiquities Booster Pack 4th: Antiquities Booster Pack
If attendance for MTG events continues to grow, we'll likely offer something more fun next year for the free event, right now we're pondering a full playset of Revised Dual Lands.
We run Standard and Draft events at our monthly Member events which are the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10am until 10pm (sometimes later if a tournament runs longer - video games, screening rooms and RPG's are shut down at 10pm though)in Newington, CT.
Any questions please feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

I miss 1997/1998 Vintage... cause that was when I was forced to retire (thanks Mom for making me sell my collection for $250 so I could buy textbooks, when I could have sold my Mox Pearl and Mox Emerald for about that much within a week on eBay at the time...)
I just got back into MTG with Shards block and I'm slowly rebuilding something that barely resembles my old collection, MTG sure has changed in 10 years, but it is still good, fun times!

Magic: The Gathering Tournaments at ConnectiCon
In addition to the scheduled tournaments listed below, we will also be running sanctioned booster drafts all weekend long, when we have 8 players looking to draft.
A Prize Pool and Prize Allocation Chart will be available for review throughout the convention, for each event. Prize Support for most events* will consist of:
2 booster packs per player for sanctioned (8 or more players) booster drafts with a $15 or higher entry fee 5 booster packs per player for sanctioned (8 or more players) sealed deck events with a $30 or higher entry fee 36 booster packs per 8 players for sanctioned (8 or more players) constructed events with a $10 or higher entry fee
*Some events will provide out of print prize support that is worth significantly more than a booster pack, for example, the Revised Sealed Event has an entry fee of $125, each player will receive one Revised Starter Deck (60 cards) and two Revised Booster packs (15 cards each) with which to build a minimum 40-card deck, this event will be limited to 8 players and will have a prize pool of 16 Revised Booster Packs.
