1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Interest in Modified B/R List Tournament? on: October 26, 2011, 07:07:35 pm
So to nueter everything equally we would go...

BANS:
time vault
yawgmoths will
blightsteel collosus

Restrict:
Bazaar
dark ritual
mana drain
force of will
mishra's workshop
elvish spirit guide
tarmogoyf
All fetch lands
All dual lands
Goblin Charbelcher
Painter
Grindstone
Helm of Obedience
Metalworker
All legends, and legendary creatures....
Goblin Piledriver
Empty the Warrens
Tendrils of Agony

this would lead to some other decks being viable and I think a much different format/meta, and I think it equally "nukes" the bombs of most tier 1 decks evenly across the board. If I missed something let me know.

I think this is a great base to work from. . . maybe "all legends"  and fetches/duals is a bit strong, but thanks for putting it together.
2  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Interest in Modified B/R List Tournament? on: October 06, 2011, 07:48:41 pm
I think the idea here is to figure out if people would be interested in testing out the format under a different set of bannings/restrictions. To Chris' point, i think nixing Sphere over Workshop is a great idea.

The purpose of this exercise is to shake things up. To keep a high power level while increasing interactivity.

I think the discussion should focus more on what it would take to make this idea work rather than bashing Dave for coming with an interesting idea.

If sphere goes instead of workshop, other changes could be made as well e.g. narcomoeba restricted instead of bazaar.

3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Interest in Modified B/R List Tournament? on: October 04, 2011, 10:24:57 pm
This seems much more open-ended and accessible. It would at the very least force people to look at different strategies.

Would I travel for this? Hell yes.

6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Menendian wrote an e-book on gush - $8.99 on: December 02, 2010, 07:00:03 pm
I picked up Steve's book.  It's an excellent primer and really well thought out.  I wasn't playing the format during the first or second gush eras, so it was an invaluable tool for me.  Definitely worth the money.

Has anyone tried out imperial seal in oath?  If so, how was it?

17  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Rico's Philly Open adventures on: May 10, 2010, 11:12:54 pm
Thanks for the compliments.

Two questions:

Did you miss the third Mana Drain at all?

(I ask all Oath players this) Why did you go with Sphinx as your robot of choice?

Regarding Drain:
I originally was using 3 Thoughtseize in the SB, but decided at the last minute to go with 2 Thoughtseize and a 3rd Drain just to have a better Fish match.  Ultimately I only cast Drain three times the entire tournament, and although it was really strong in the one game (letting me win against Workshops) it was pretty insignificant the other 2 times and it was a completely dead the rest of the time.

SO, after being underwhelmed by drains, would you cut them altogether for something else?  Did you ever feel like you needed a drain to resolve a Jace or Tezzeret.
18  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Rico's Philly Open adventures on: May 10, 2010, 07:27:06 am
Great job Rico! Sorry to see you get derailed by that series of bad mulligans, but that's how it goes sometimes.

19  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: May 09, 2010, 09:24:10 pm
Soly, what wrath effects are you running?

Well, they were Perish, Nature's Ruin, and Massacre.  I'd switch to triple Massacre if people start running True Believer and such.

What about sower of temptation?  Have you tried Fire/Ice?

Could anyone provide some insight into oath's matchup against the various storm decks?

I'd be interested to hear about general gameplans for each game and which things have to be countered.  Thanks guys!
23  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: May 07, 2010, 11:27:30 pm

@Tha Gunslinga

I guess you are just better at the game.

Tested like 12 games today Soly playing Oath, me playing Bant Fish.  No SB.  Oath went about 10-2.  It's unreal.

Same list?
24  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Article] Oath 2: Electric Boogaloo on: May 07, 2010, 10:09:32 am
Congratulations Josh! It's unfortunate that the dredge train had to ruin your top 8 run.  Can you tell me a little more about your sideboard?  How were imperial archangel and deed?  when did you bring them in?
25  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: May 07, 2010, 12:38:20 am
Well, the slot I'm playing with is the slot that formerly had Twister in it.  I just never seem to cast it (and I draw it often).  I'm just not sure what else would be better.  I considered going up to 4 drains in the maindeck, but haven't tested it yet.

26  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: May 06, 2010, 07:04:08 pm
Hey guys.  What do you think about propaganda as a bullet in the main or in the side to fend off troublesome creatures?

A new guy in our group runs ichorid and I hate having no chance game 1.
27  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: April 30, 2010, 06:44:56 am
Matt, congrats on your most recent 2nd place at blue bell.  Would you mind sharing some insight into your use of the red blasts in the side?  What do you bring them in for?  When do you fetch the volcanic (I have a fear of wasteland)?
28  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: April 24, 2010, 11:17:55 pm
Hey guys.  Congratulations to Matt and Ben for their continuing success with the deck.  A few things:

1) Matt, how was Timetwister for you since you added an extra monster and cut krosan reclamation?  I'm assuming you're not trying the vault key out of the yard strategy from your previous list.

2) Also for Matt or anyone else not running Show and Tell: is there a particular reason why you don't run this?  For me, it's been truly amazing.

3) For everyone: how do you feel about Children of Korlis in the sideboard?  I've used them so far to pretty good results against storm decks and I even brought them in against dredge as a free sac outlet to get rid of bridge from below.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed and kept this thread alive!  I'm really glad that I picked up Oath as my first vintage deck.  I'm loving it!
29  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: April 24, 2010, 02:18:14 am
Hey guys.  I tested tonight with two show and tell main with the 4 monster package (robot, elephant, iona, emrakul) and loved it.  The deck felt really threat dense and I felt like my opponents never had enough disruption to prevent me from getting big guys into play.

Also, I've been really underwhelmed with sensei's divining top in my testing lately.  This is the slot I've been most willing to cut in the maindeck (working with Ben's most recent list).  How have everyone else's experiences with top been?
30  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: April 17, 2010, 07:47:15 pm
I'm a bit worried of the builds with Metalworker combo. They can combo out very early too, roughly turn 2-3. So I always counter Metalworker or destroy it. But in theory I think Oath still has the upper hand because we run 5 Tinkers in addition to infinite turns.

I'm testing out the 15/15. He looks very promising.

Did you take out the elephant altogether?  Are you running Dragon Breath? Tinker-bot?
