You guys should be ashamed that Dan Carp was able to take it down.

 Very Happy

I'm curious how Dan was able to beat Dragon because I know that it is a difficult matchup for 7/10.

Trinisphere + Wastes I imagine is some good though.  Enjoy it while you can.
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Article] Meandeck Tendrils Primer, Part One on: February 07, 2005, 09:07:13 pm
I just figured I'd chime in to let everyone hear some first-hand experience opposed to watching Steve take his turn on video.

I played against Steve in round 5 of SCG III.  He was playing Doomsday and on his first turn he Brainstormed.  Fifteen minutes later he passed turn.  Of course, naturally, I went on to lose this game.  The second game went quickly with me winning.  During game three I am in position to swing for lethal damage next turn but Steve Tendrils me for just enough to stay alive resulting in a match draw.

At the time of the Brainstorm, I did not think twice about how much time Steve was consuming until after the match.  I did not think to call a judge over.  But when I made top 8 and saw that Steve was in the same bracket as me I talked to a judge and told him about how long the Brainstorm took.  So when we played out our top 4 match Steve was thinking for a while and then the judge told him to speed it up.  Immediately after that Steve makes his play and then messed up which caused him that game.

So I do not know if Steve's mind was clouded with too many insane plays or if he judge telling him to hurry up actually caused him to miscalculate.

But anyways, that is how I handled the situation.  Fortunately I was able to still make top 8 after the draw and exact my revenge.   Very Happy

So Phl when is the last time you went to a tournament and didn't 0-2? Very Happy

Well in the top eight I did mulligan to FOUR... such a close game

And actually there was no getting lost this time (much to my dismay), but there was the ghetto parking in the abandoned lot.

Manuel is just lucky that he picked a good deck the net-deck.  Very Happy

4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Results] Team GWS owns Chicago again (6-13-04) on: June 14, 2004, 11:29:31 pm
Mat, Zach, and I drove down to Chicago for some type 1 action.  Along the way Zach just keeps on talking... and talking.... and talking.... I mean seriously how someone talk so much.

So after being annoyed for 2 hours we arrive at the Gaming Depot.

I am playing the same exact 7/10 list as I did last tournament with a minor sideboard change that had no affect on the tournament.

On to the excitement!

Round 1:  Bye... I mean White Wheenie
Game 1: He opens with Fetch for Plains... I win shortly thereafter
Game 2: He sideboards three cards... none of which are Serenity

Round 2: Fish (Zach who rode down w/us & is freaking annoying)
Game 1: He opens with Conclave, I get a Chalice for 2 out pretty early followed up by a Titan.
Game 2: He gets a Vandal out but is neutralized by the tag team of Memnarch and Titan... he didn't even have the red mana to use Vandal's ability.

Round 3: Dragon
Game 1: He opens with Swarm and then wins on turn 2.  Ouch
Game 2: I play turn 1 Welder, he Forces.  Next turn I play Chalice for 2, then Chalice for 3 as well as a Tormod’s Crypt.  I just wait to draw into a threat and win.
Game 3: He mulls to six.  He plays a Sea and passes turn.  I open with a Brainstorm.  He does nothing again, I play Chalice for 2 which gets Forced.  He finds Bazaar, uses it and Animates up a Dragon… I’ve got the Blue Blast.  Time gets called and I have enough damage to kill him on the 5th turn… on his 4th he rips a Mox to play another Animate… I have another Blue Blast.  Whew.

Round 4: Tog
ID

Round 5: Keeper
ID

Top 8: Tog w/maindeck Berserk and Gush
Game 1: We play land go for a few turns and I drop a Memory Jar w/Force backup.  He has Mana Drain and Force.  He then Intiutions and all that mana and does his Tog thing.
Game 2: I play turn 1 Memnarch, he resolves.  He beats a few turns and then gets Naturalized.  I drop down a Titan to seal the game.
Game 3: He mulls to 6 and opens with Crypt, Mox, Land, Deep Anal.  I drop a Crypt and activate it.  A few turns later I get a Chalice for 2 down.  He Fofs into pretty much nothing, 2 Mana Drains and 3 Tropical Islands.  My Triskelion goes in for the beats and he is forced to block with Mr. Teeth, I make him pump Tog.  The game ends with my sweet topdeck of a Titan.  I know that somewhere in there he could have won… all he had to do was attack with Tog but somehow overlooked it.  Luck of the Irish eh?
Disclaimer: I’m pretty sure I got games 2-3 mixed up a bit.

Top 4: Keeper
Game 1: My hand is Force, Ancestral, Thirst, Mox, 3 Welder… Mul to 6 and end up with Force, Ancestral, Thirst, Thirst, something else…. And yes I did shuffle my deck.  I decide to go ballsy and keep.  Two turns go by before I get land to play my Ancestral, I Force it through and then proceed to lose to 5 strip hand.
Game 2: My opening Welder goes Farming.  I force his Angel and a Titan comes in to party shortly thereafter.
Game 3: Wow this game was absolutely insane.  He plays Volcanic and is done.  I play Sapphire, Ancestral, He Rebs I Force.  I then play an Emerald, Sol ring, Crypt, and Acedemy to drop a turn 1 Titan… wow.  Next turn I topdeck Force but he can’t find an answer.

So Manuel (Hspecter) and I end up figuring out a split.  My winning was extra sweet because that put my friend Mat in 3rd place so he could get the Foil Vamp.

So GWS goes home with a Workshop and Foil Vamp.

One last note… I’ve played this deck and in this month I have won Three Mishra’s Workshops.

I don’t know if Shortbus is just not posting results or even playing the deck but it seems like I’m the only person that is having success with 7/10?

Props:

My Chevy Lumina for being the best ever.
My sickening luck.
Mat for being my direction man.
7/10 for rocking the house.

Slops:

Zach for existing.
Round 1 opponent who defiled the tournament with White Wheenie.

Prism to answer your questions:

I didnt think that it was worth janking up the mana base any more just for Will.  I think the added consistancy without black makes the deck run much smoother.

When I first tested 7/10 Split it felt like I would just lose to cards that I couldn't do anything about.  Force of Wills stop the threats that I think that I cannot deal with at the time.

Pentavus!?!?!? Are you kidding?  This deck is not Slaver.  The moxen and chalice provide plenty enough Weldable targets.

Angel helps the combo matchup as well as any random situation were you are in a defensive situation.  Not being able to lose certainly helps.

The only thing that I can really say is to test out the deck, run Force and then try it without.

6  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Top 8 from Chicago, 7/10 is at it again on: May 31, 2004, 03:27:19 pm
A buddy of mine rode up with me to Chicago for a little type 1 action.  Its only a two hour drive, which isn't too bad, but it poured the entire way there.

We arrive at the Gaming Depot 30 minutes early.  We take a look around and see some Tog decks as well as Shop Slaver.  I brought 7/10 Split after doing well with it last week in Milwaukee.  Made a few changes, the most notable one being the removal of black.  This made for a smoother mana base.  Here's the list:

3 Sundering Titan
2 Triskelion
2 Memnarch
1 Platinum Angel
4 Goblin Welder

4 Thirst for Knowledge
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Timetwister
1 Memory Jar
1 Ancestral Recall
4 Brainstorm
1 Fact or Fiction
1 Tinker

4 Chalice of the Void
4 Force of Will

4 Mishra’s Workshop
2 Glimmervoid
2 City of Brass
2 Ancient Tomb
4 Shivan Reef
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Vault
1 Mana Crypt
1 Black Lotus
5 Moxen
3 Gilded Lotus

Sideboard

2 Duplicant
1 Viashino heretic
2 Rack and Ruin
3 Blue Elemental Blast
4 Trinisphere
3 Tormod’s Crypt

I belive there was a turnout of 21 people with the prizes being: Workshop, Mask, and a Foil Vamp. for 3rd.

I lost my notes and will just mention what I played against in the 5 rounds of swiss.

round 1-Fish:               2-0
round 2-U/G Madness:  2-0
round 3-Spoils Mask:    2-0
round 4-Tog (4 color):  Draw
round 5-Keeper:          Draw

the top 8 was:
Tog (4 color)
Tog (4 color)
Tog (3 color)
Keeper (Decree/Matrix)
Combo Keeper
Keeper (2 Decree, 2 Exalted)
7/10 Split
Fish

So somehow after seeing all those other artifact decks 7/10 is the only one to make top 8.

top 8 I play against my friend who rode up with me who is playing Matrix Keeper

game 1: I die to my freaking mana crypt

game 2: I run out of gas, play draw go a few turns, at 3 life from my crypt (again!) rip Twister off the top.  Cast it, he Rebs and I have the Beb.  Off the Twister I have enough mana to play down 2 Titans.  So this game all comes down to the coin flip, I win the flip and win.

game 3: I get going quickly and shortly have out a Titan and Welder.  He is going to die next turn, but of course rips Balance off the top.  I lose all my land and have 1 card in hand.  My opponent is at 2 life, I draw a Brainstorm and play a Welder with artifact mana I have.  At this point I think I have the game when he is able to decree for 1 to block my welder.  He uses a fetch to put him at 1.  A few turns go by and I play a Trikelion, he drains.  On his turn he Cunning Wishes for Fact or Fiction, I split the piles so he has to take a lone brainstorm in an attempt to use the last mana... and finds nothing. He shows me the Yag. Will in his hand that he cannot play. Whew.

top 4: Keeper (2 Exalted 2 Decree)

game 1: He opens with Library, I play Ancestral, then a Thirst, he plays Yag. Will with Force backup.  I have 2 Forces.  Next turn I play Titan.  Titan gets swords and I have a Memnarch which steals his library next turn.

game 2: I keep a hand with 2 shops, and Memory Jar.  He plays a few wastes.  My Jar is countered and an Exalted cleans up.

game 3: I open with Mana Vault and Chalice for 0.  I have plenty of land in my hand and a Memnarch.  He plays land go for a few turns and countered my Memnarch.  At this point I think its over.  I topdeck a Triskelion which resolves.  He Cunning Wishes for a Rack and Ruin.  I topdeck a Titan, attack with Trisk, which gets killed by R & R.  He has two mana open.  I play my Titan expecting to walk it right into Mana Drain... and it resolves killing 4 of his land leaving him with a Strip Mine.

the other top 4 matchup is Combo Keeper vs. 4 color Tog.  They are about to start game 3 when one of the players says he has to be to work at 9pm.  We figure out a split that includes me giving away a Morphling and Troll Acestic so I get the Workshop and he gets the Illisionary Mask.

The 3rd place player was going to get the Foil Vamp tutor.  This was done by seeing who was higher ranked at the end of the swiss out of the top 4 that didn't advance.

I must say that I am quite happy with how the decks plays.  In the past month and a half I have played in 3 tournaments and top 4'ed in all of them.  Two of the tournaments I walked away with Workshops.  All of the tournaments were played in highly powered metagames that both allowed proxies.

I'm just curious as to why no one else is posting results with this deck.  The Force of Wills seems to make a HUGE difference for me.  Adding them in has not caused any consistancy problems and the mana base has been great.

Quote
How did people win these 'welder mirrors'?

I played 7/10 Split and was able to get past other welders by the decks explosiveness.  My sideboard helped out a great deal by bringing in 3 Rebs and 2 Duplicants.

The highlight of my tournament experience was when my opponent played a Slaver (not enough mana to activate) and passes turn.  I draw Memnarch, have enough mana to play it, steal Slaver, and use it.

I personally think that the best place to sell power would be on Ebay.  When your the seller its near impossible to get ripped off.

Food-Chain Goblins would be a good deck to play without power.  Gay/r does pretty well also.

Good luck.

Howdy all.
My name is Brian Fisher.  I live in Illinois where the local area magic is relatively non-existant.

I go to a local Community College and am just taking general classes, no major decided on yet.

I live to play nerd games  Very Happy  Magic of course and Dungeons and Dragons as well as a variety of computer games.

My favorite thing EVER is my car.  Of course your wondering what this mighty beast might be?  Of course it is a 97 Chevy Lumina, the only thing that stops it is mud (don't ask).

I know GenCon is a long ways away yet but I still can't look forward to seeing everyone there.
