2  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / New store in Central Florida on: July 05, 2004, 02:33:29 am
They just opened the store less than a month ago, that's why.
It's an extremely short drive from the UCF campus, 10 minutes or so. Not exactly sure as i've never attempted to find out.

Also, the first Type 1 tournament at Cool Stuff will be July 25th i believe. It will be 10 proxy. Start time, entrance fee and prize structure should be announced pretty soon. I'll post it when i find out.
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Culling Scales] Can someone break this card? on: June 27, 2004, 08:56:02 pm
Quote
My only conclusion is that Culling Scales is to slow. Type 1 needs cards like Pernicious Deed, Swords to Plowshare, Fire/Ice, and Force of Wills. Cards that sit around and blow one thing up per turn aren't fast enough. Cards that would work very well with Culling Scales are Tel-Jilah Chosen, Darksteel Ingot, and Darksteel Brute. The chosen sucks, so our only options are the two darksteel artifacts.

You answered your own question. Sure, it's cute to get Ingot/Scales out, but it's not game altering for the most part. And it only pairs with bad cards, so you come back to the common question: "Why cut good cards for bad ones?"

YES. Multiple Full Sail students play at the various local stores.

And it probably is closer than i stated, i'm not entirely familiar with the area.

I'd say it's less than a half hour from Full Sail's campus. We get a lot of Full Sail students, so it shouldn't be far, or hard to fit in.

I go there all the time also. It really is a great store. There's plenty of people who have Type 1 interest, so all we need is some action and we can get a tournament started. Even one of the store owners has a Slaver build that's fully powered, and he even mentioned possibly putting P9 up for prize support.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Deck Protectors? on: June 03, 2004, 12:21:23 pm
You have sleeves that lasted 4-5 years? Don't they get extremely dirty, or do you clean them?

About the judging thing:
Yeah, that is a concern, and I doubt any of us are judge certified, so we'll have to find someone. It's possible the store we end up getting to host the tournament has an employee who is certified, but we can't bank on it.

This has somewhat of a relation to the judging thing:
If we get this going, we have to ultimatly decide on one thing, proxies or no, and if yes, how many. If we have any number of proxies, we can't have the tournament sanctioned. But at the same time, if we don't allow proxies, we run the risk of a smaller turnout and an overall very weak metagame.
Personally i think we can go with an unlimited proxy tournament, and hopefully get whatever store we have to offer some type of chase T1 card that will attract people. Not necessarily a P9 component because most stores would consider that too high of a risk for a first time tournament, but something to atleast attract players of all levels. This would probably raise the entrance fee a little bit more than people are accustomed to, but if the prize or prize structure is eye catching enough, it's not a problem.

Any other suggestions?

I thought Sci-Fi didn't want to be heavily involved with Magic anymore. They used to deal alot with it but now they just hold Extended tournaments on Saturdays. They just sells packs and boxes now. It's still worth a shot though, and I wouldn't mind, Sci-Fi is closer to my house than The Gathering.

I'll probably be at the pre-release too, so that could work.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Type 1 in Florida on: May 10, 2004, 03:16:42 pm
heh, sup Zeke. Told you i'm on every forum basically lol.

But yeah, there's a few small T1 tourneys in the northern part of Florida, like Gainesville and up, but nothing really below that.

It would be nice to start up a regular T1 tournament in the central florida area, but i'm not sure if we could get enough people, or even a decent place to hold it secured.

If any of you guys in the Central Florida area are interested, we could possibly get together and work on starting one.
12  Eternal Formats / Creative / T2 Regional, cards, and the Type 1 player. on: May 02, 2004, 07:39:41 pm
there was a decent amount of power going around at Florida Regionals, most of it was from vendors who wanted 350 bucks for white boarder moxes, and upwards of 500 for BB ones. Don't even ask what they wanted for a BB Lotus, when i asked the guy someone else jumped in and said "too much, don't bother." There was a good amount of T1 goodies floating around though, i just didn't have the trade fodder to grab anything useful.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Playtesting? on: March 17, 2004, 10:22:28 am
You could try playtesting online. Or you could use proxies. I'd go with proxies, because you'd be doing 2 good things. Testing your deck, and getting someone else interested in Type 1.
14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Choosing the right card protectors...how? on: March 07, 2004, 11:06:26 pm
Reading Ultra Pro's website, they offer both Satin and Solid sleeves. Unfortunatly, they don't go into detail at all about the difference. The pictures don't help either to determine which type is the textured variety and which isn't.

On the Gunmetal sleeve package, it says "1 Color Board" and there's this yellow-ish piece of paper on the lower half of the front sleeve. Can someone explain what that is, and if it is of any importance?
16  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Choosing the right card protectors...how? on: March 07, 2004, 06:35:48 pm
I don't see why everyone hates Ultrapro so much. I've used their black ones for a while now and i've never had any split on me, and they last a long time before some get so dirty/worn that they become marked.

Side question; What do you guys use for card boxes, if you even use one. Also, does anyone know a good place to get a play mat from? I've looked around but i'm not finding anything.
17  Eternal Formats / Creative / Win one turn with slaver? on: February 21, 2004, 11:00:21 pm
Does that really work? If you think about it, you can stack the effect X number of times, but after the first one resolves, Vapors is destroyed. Wouldn't all the others fizzle because Vapors is no longer in play?
18  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Primer] Food Chain Goblins Primer [Final Draft] on: February 16, 2004, 11:14:42 am
I think in the old, non-primer thread he suggested these unpowered manabases

1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
1 Chrome Mox
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
1 Lotus Petal
2 Ancient Tomb
4 Taiga
4 Wooded Foothills
5 Mountain

or

1 Strip Mine (he actually suggested this slot as a random card, but i kept the strip in there for various reasons)
1 Chrome Mox
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
1 Lotus Petal
3 Ancient Tomb
4 Taiga
4 Wooded Foothills
2 Bloodstained Mire
6 Mountain
