First, thanks for the positive feedbacks. I changed my list. First, I dropped the Ports and the mana count from 30 to 22. I drop the Mishra's Factory for Tangle Wires and I like that.
Here is the new list:
4 Juggernault 4 Smokestack 4 Serum Powder 4 Tangle Wire 4 Orb of Dreams 4 Sphere of Resistance 4 Thorn of Amethyst 4 Chalice of the Void 3 Karn, Silver Golem 2 Null Rod 1 Trinisphere
5 Moxen 1 Black Lotus 1 Mana Crypt 1 Mana Vault 1 Sol Ring 4 Mishra's Workshop 4 Wasteland 3 Ancient Tomb 1 Strip Mine 1 Tolarian Academy
I really really like the Serum Powders! Because the deck have no tutors and draw, I decide to play four copies of each cards exept Null Rods. Some of my friends told me they prefer Crucible of Worlds and I must admit Wasteland on my Workshop is the play I fear most. The deck also fear an early Welder. Oath is also a problem but I think every MWS fears it. That's the reson why I play Ensanaring Bridge in the board.
I tried Metal Worker but not so sure about it, if it get countered or destroyed, I'm in big trouble. Playing without is going great anyway.
Exept that, this pile is so broken! My first turns are always broken. Many times, if I can fallow with a Jugger or Karn second turn, the opponent cannot play a single spell and he is dead!
For the moment, I really like Orb of Dreams, especially on the first turn. I want to find room for Crucibles and maybe more rods. Maybe a fourth Tomb too. The deck is so stif, the only card I can see be cuted is Orbs.
Any tips about that new list?

Hi all.
Some of my friends and I think Mishra's Workshop is the big winner after june 20. Some talks about 5 colors stax or 5 colors Juggernault. Here, I want to talk about Mono Brown. I'm not telling it's the best Workshop form of deck but at least, let's give it a try.
First, here is the list I'm working on, it's far from beeing perfect but it works pretty well in playtesting for me:
4 Juggernault 4 Orb of Dreams 4 Sphere of Resistance 4 Thorn of Amethyst 4 Chalice of the Void 3 Pithing Needle 2 Smokestack 2 Crucible of Worlds 1 Karn, Silver Golem 1 Trinisphere 1 Black Vise
5 Moxen 1 Black Lotus 1 Mana Crypt 1 Mana Vault 1 Sol Ring 4 Mishra's Workshop 4 Mishra's Factory 4 Wasteland 4 Rishadan Port 3 Ancient Tomb 1 Strip Mine 1 Tolarian Academy
No tutors, no powerhouse card, no colors at all. Just a pile of unfun cards.
The point of this deck is to lockdown opponent and beating it with a juggie/factories/black vise/karn as fast as possible, and believe me, it works.
First, you probably notice there is 30 mana sources but port and factories needs fuel and with all thoses spheres, you want a lot of mana.
I don't know why people don't even talk about Orb of Dreams, it?s so good! It wrecks fetchs, but that's obvious. Its combine very well with spheres, port and Wasteland. With Ancient Tombs and all the others accelerants, it's easy to play it on the first turn.
Spheres are the major point of this deck. Destroy/tap there lands, play spheres and if your lucky, play a chalice @0 on the first turn and your opponent will not even have the chance to play a card of the game before a juggie rapes him.
Chalice of the Void is self explanatory.
Pithing Needles are there basically for Goblin Welders and Grindstone. I think it's more a metagame choice though.
Smokestack. I started by playing 4 of them. I found it was way too much. I feel I only want to see 1 in the game. And even there, sometimes it dies in my hand. Sometimes it make me win the game so I decide to play 2 of them.
Since there is a lot of basic lands (reason I play ports), Crucibles are less useful. Because I don't want 2 in a game, I decide to cut them to 2.
The lone Karn is there, maybe I don't need it. Sometimes, it end games the turn it came into play.
Black Vise is more a try then anything else. If you lock your opponent, vise wins by itself. For the moment, I like it.
Mishra's Factory are good beaters. It blocks and kill Juggernault! Against creatures based decks, you want them too.
Some people will say this deck has no card advantage at all and they may be right. For the moment, my playtest are very positive but I feel somme changes must be done to thqt pile.
As for the sideboard, many cards come to mind but nothing serious. Powder Keg, Tormod?s Crypt, Leyline of the Vault, Smokestack 3-4, Jester's Cap, etc...

Here is my list :
Permission (14): 4 Force of Will 4 Mana Leak 2 Counterspell 2 Stifle 1 Misdirection 1 Teferie's Response
Threats (12): 4 Swords to Plowshares 2 Wrath of God 4 Fire/Ice 2 Engineered Explosives
Manipulation/Draw (8): 4 Standstill 4 Brainstorm
"Brokeness" (2): 2 Crucible of Worlds
Manabase (24): 4 Wasteland 4 Mishra's Factory 4 Tundra 3 Volcanic Island 3 Island 2 Faerie's Conclaves 2 Flooded Strand 2 Polluted Delta
Sideboard (15): 4 Circle of Protection : Red 3 Seal of Cleansing 4 ReB 4 Metagame slot (still don't know...)

What about a DCI t-shirt ? These are pretty popular in Quebec but I still don't know wich category it takes.
I totally agree that WotC t-shirts are only for home or when you got to paint a wall or something.
Good job Matt ! Next friday, I'm gonna try this deck out in Montreal. After what I'll do a small report of the event ! I tested the deck and ALWAYS win on turn four (even with mulligans). This deck is pretty solid.

Well, thanks for your time ! Last Saturday , I played this decklist of TPS in a LoA tournament in Montreal (31 players...) and I win the tourney with no match loss Maindeck (60x) : Permission (9x) : 4 Force of Will 1 Misdirection 4 Duress Manipulation (7x) : 4 Brainstorm 1 Mystical Tutor 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Vampiric Tutor Broken (12x) : 2 Gifts Ungiven 1 Mind’s Desire 1 Time Spiral 1 Tinker 1 Timetwister 1 Windfall 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Yawgmoth’s Bargain 1 Necropotance 1 Yawgmoth’s Will 1 Memory Jar Kill (1x) : 1 Tendrils of Agony Other (3x) : 1 Hurkyl’s Recall 1 Time Walk 1 Chain of Vapor Mana (28x) : 4 Dark Ritual 1 Mana Vault 1 Sol Ring 1 Mana Crypt 1 Lotus Petal 1 Black Lotus 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Emerald 4 Polluted Delta 3 Underground Sea 2 Flooded Strand 2 Island 2 Swamp 1 Tolarian Academy Sideboard (15x) : 2 Rebuild 2 Massacre 4 Defense Grid 4 Tormod’s Crypt 2 Damping Matrix 1 Darksteel Colossus I cut the lone Cunning Wish for a Gifts Ungiven. Yheah, Extract and Rootwater Thief for Tendrils of Agony kills me in game 1, but who the f*** is playing those cards ? When I was playing that Cunning Wish, it was always a bad news to draw it (eot Cunning Wish is ok, but eot Gifts Ungiven is pretty). I know, my deck scoops to some crazy situations that never happens...Also, nobody knows exactly what I play and always have in mind that I have that lone Cunning Wish or another way to win . 1. Doomsday : 1-1 2. WUR-Landstill : 2-1 3. WU-Aggro (UT Fish ?) : 2-1 4. Bomberman (WU-Auriok Salvager) : 1-1 5. Control Slaver : 2-0 T8 : WUR-Landstill : 2-1 T4 : FCG : 2-1 Final : Bomberman : 50/50 split Defense Grid is a great card. Because of the rarity of broken hands, Defense Grid helps a lot in the control match-up. Here how I side those Grids : -1 Time Walk -1 Timespiral -1 Hurkyl's Recall -1 Chain of Vapor (no Arcane Labs in Montreal... ) +4 Defense Grid As for the Damping Matrix, I found them pretty useless because they puts me in a controlish situation and I should cut broken cards to side them in. Finaly, I don't face any Dragon or CA (5 players were playing those decks), so the Tormod's Crypts were unuselful. For the moment, I'm far from sure that Dragon is an easy match-up for TPS. Annul is a great card and surely replace the two Damping Matrix. Chalice of the Void and Pyrostatic Pillar are very annoying. Also, I'm pretty sure that Arcane Laboratories will be played in the next tournaments. Again, thanks for your help !

My decklist of TPS : Maindeck (60) :Permission (9) :4 Force of Will 1 Misdirection 4 Duress Manipulation (7) :4 Brainstorm 1 Mystical Tutor 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Vampiric Tutor Broken (12) :2 Gifts Ungiven 1 Mind's Desire 1 Time Spiral 1 Windfall 1 Timetwister 1 Tinker 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Yawgmoth's Bargain 1 Necropotance 1 Yawgmoth's Will 1 Memory Jar Kill (1) :Tendrils of Agony Other (3) :1 Time Walk 1 Hurkyl's Recall 1 Chain of Vapor Mana (28) :4 Dark Ritual 10 SoLoMoxenCryptVaultPetal 4 Polluted Delta 3 Underground Sea 2 Flooded Strand 2 Island 2 Swamp 1 Tolarian Academy Sideboard (15) :2 Rebuild 2 Massacre 4 Defense Grid 2 Damping Matrix 4 Tormod's Crypt 1 Darksteel Colossus Tormod's Crypt are not in my sb for CS. I choose to run them for Dragon and CA. As for the CS match-up, here how I would side the 6 cards : +4 Defense Grid +2 Damping Matrix -1 Gifts Ungiven (Not very synergistic with Defense Grid) -1 Time Spiral -1 Windfall (I'm not sure about this one) -1 Tinker -1 Memory Jar (Not synergistic with Damping Matrix) -1 Chain of Vapor Chalice of the Void is not really a menace because I've got a md Hurkyl's Recall. Arcane Laboratory is the menace I will prey for Duress and FoW to avoid Arcane Laboratories. The 3cc of this card is in my advantage except if it's played with Lotus, Crypt, 2 moxen or drain's mana (wich in that case i'm already dead). The Exalted

First of all, thanks for you help ! Defense Grid and Damping Matrix are the two cards I'll playtest this weekend in a LoA tournament. I think TPS need to win in the first few turns. Yes, this deck is stable but CS is just way more stable than TPS. The optimal non broken senario would be first turn Defense Grid with FoW backup. There is also the fisrt turn Duress, second turn Defense Grid that can be disastrous for a CS player if he do not have the FoW and Drain in his starting hand. Damping Matrix is a real power house against CS : Is CS have an answer for this card ? Chain of Vapor ? Hardcast Platz ? With TPS, it is easy to cast this card on first or second turn with Dark Ritual and SoLoMoxenCryptVault. I don't like Cranial Extraction because it has a worst impact then Defense Grid and Damping Matrix vs CS. Also, it's casting cost make this card pratically uncastable until turn 2. As for Engineered Plague and Night of Souls' Betrayal, I don't think there addition is that important because they are golden against my favorable match-ups. Also, fish is unpopular in Montreal. In my sb, I've got that stupid Colossus for these stupid decks anyway Here would be my new sb : 2 Rebuild 2 Massacre 4 Defense Grid 2 Damping Matrix 4 Tormod's Crypt 1 Darksteel Colossus The Exalted

I'v been playing TPS for a while now and I've got a lot of difficulties to beat Control Slaver. In fact, I faced this deck 5 times and never win but makes top 8 every time I want to know if there's any way I can beat CS, wich is growing up in popularity ? Here is my sideboard : Great against any deck that run 4 Force of Will : 1 Misdirection (Wish target, I run one maindeck because of all these Force of Wills around...) Great vs Stax, 5/3 and 7/10 2 Rebuild (Great against Workshop.dec, I run one maindeck) Great vs Dragon : 1 Chain of Vapor (Wish target, Dragon) 1 Blue Elemental Blast (Dragon, Pyrostatic Pillar, ReB) 2 Coffin Purge (Dragon and Control Slaver) Secret tech : 2 Massacre (Secret tech vs Meddling Mage wich is very played in our meta in Montreal) 1 Echoing Decay (Wish target for Meddling Mage) The colossus : 1 Darksteel Colossus Wish targets : 1 Gifts Ungiven (Wish target) 1 Rushing River (Wish target) 1 Brainfreeze (Wish Target) 1 Echoing Truth (Wish target) Cards I want to remove : -1 Rebuild : I feel that two Rebuild after sideboarding is enought if we consider that 3Sphere is now restricted. -1 Blue Elemental Blast : Chain of Vapor make the same job but is far more versatile. -2 Coffin Purge : I have enought answers vs Dragon and they're not that great vs Control Slaver. -1 Echoing Decay : Echoing Truth make the same job but is more versatile. That gives me 5 sb slots for the Control Slaver match-up, is any body has any suggestions ? The Exalted

Skeltons from Dark Peak Creature -- Skelton B 5/1
Last Strike (Whenever ~this~ becomes blocked, the blocking creature gains First Strike until end of turn).
Skeltons from Last Peak can't block.
I realy like the concept of Last Strike, it may be a great way for aggro to beat control !
Do you think this card is too broken ?

What about Intuition, Gifts Ungiven, Rhystic Tutor, Lim-Dûl's Vault, Spoils of the Vault, Diabolic Tutor ?
I see no reason why R&D would restricted Grim Tutor if it is not the heart of a new dominant combo deck like Burning-Tendrils.
Also, why R&D has'nt restricted Grim Tutor and restrited Personnal Tutor and Imperial Tutor ? They absolutely don't forget it !

First, let's try to make a great list with Grim Tutor.
Second, IF GrimLong becomes a dominant deck, wich I doubt, Grim Tutor will merit a place in the restricted list.

Grim Tutor > Death Wish
Death Long was a so-so deck : In 2 turns, my life was always between 5 and 10 and this deck wasn't goldfishing better than Meandeck Doomsday or TPS. Grim Tutor, wich replace Death Wish, is a better card slot because I can play Yawgmoth's Will main deck instead of Burning Wish.
This version is only 2 color, red and green may be great additions !
Here is the decklist :
UB-GrimLong (60) :
Combo (2) : 1 Tendrils of Agony 1 Yawgmoth's Will
Permission (4) : 4 Duress
Manipulation (13) : 4 Brainstorm 1 Cunning Wish 1 Mystical Tutor 4 Grim Tutor 1 Imperial Seal 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Vampiric Tutor
Bombs (9) : 1 Timespiral 1 Mind's Desire 1 Tinker 1 Timetwister 1 Memory Jar 1 Windfall 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Necropotence 1 Yawgmoth's Bargain
Other (2) : 1 Hurkyl's Recall 1 Chain of Vapor
Mana (30) : 4 Dark Ritual 1 Black Lotus 1 Chrome Mox 1 Lion's Eye Diamond 1 Lotus Petal 1 Mana Crypt 1 Mana Vault 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Sol Ring 4 Underground Sea 4 Polluted Delta 2 Island 2 Swamp 1 Tolarian Academy 1 Bloostrained Mire
Sideboard (15) : 4 Blue Elemental Blast 2 Rebuild 1 Force of Will 1 Misdirection 1 Meditate 1 Rushing River 1 Brainfreeze 1 Echoing Truth 1 Hurkyl's Recall 1 Lim-Dûl's Vault 1 Darksteel Colossus

Eternal Formats / Creative / Card discussion : Psychic Venom, new weapon for Landstill ?
|
on: May 17, 2004, 05:45:38 pm
|
|
Psychic Venom (cost = 1U) : Enchant Land Whenever enchanted land becomes tapped, ~this~ deals 2 damage to that land's controller. [Oracle 1999/05/01] Whenever the land is tapped for any reason (including by Twiddle or Icy Manipulator), damage is done. [bethmo 1994/10/01]
Is this card can be a new weapon for Landstill ? Combined with Rishadan Port, I think this card is very descent.
Let's compared Psychic Venom with Faerie's Conclave :
-Psychic Venom cost 1U -Faerie's Conclave cost 1 (because it comes into play tapped) -Psychic Venom can be activated without paying any mana if opponent choose to pay two life to use his land -Faerie's Conclave needs to be activated to deals it's damage (three mana are necessary including the Conclave, wich one is a blue) -Psychic Venom, when combined with Rishadan Port, cost two colorless mana to be activated and opponent loose his land for one turn. 2-1=1 -Fearie's Conclave have a good synergy with Nevinyrral's Disk -Psychic Venom is an Enchantment, wich is the least feared permanent kind in our metagame presently -Faerie's Conclave is a blue creature and non-basic land permanent wich is a way more sensible than enchantment
I think Psychic Venom/Rishadan Port needs to be considered because of these reasons. I'm waiting for your decklists !
