1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Zendikar boosters include Ancestral Recall? on: September 30, 2009, 12:57:49 pm
From reading various forums the consensus I have seen with the wizards repacks is 1 in 720 packs and roughly 8 cards pulled out of like 9,000 boosters throughout the texas area and out of all those --1 ancestral recall, 5 dual lands a phyrexian dreadnought and a candelabra of tawnos.  So I am guessing that if you are super lucky, you may get a dual land... personally I am pissed that the boxes are so high and am not buying a single box.  I was about to preorder a case at 550 3 weeks ago and because i am in Kuwait, and heading back to the US in the next 7 days i decided to wait a week to order mainly because i didnt have a good address yet.  After that one week, cases were a min 600 -then 2 days later 660 and now boxes are 120+ making cases redic.  even starcitygames had three price hikes in less than 5 days.  I bought all the enemy fetches off ebay and plan on buying my power through credible stores.

dropping the pledge for 4 luminarch ascension.  also dropping the silence for 4 Path to exile.  Ajani Vengeant lightning bolts and armageddons.  you are thinking of goldmane verison.

8   1cc
4   2cc
8   3cc
12 4cc
0   5cc
4   6cc

I plan on running this (a version of) at the PT Austin LCQ so appreciate all the help and criticism.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Extended Dredge (from The Undead Survival Guide) on: September 30, 2009, 05:47:03 am
I like this slower version.  You can win without actually hitting the dredge engine at all which is good.  I am running the inquiry version on MODO currently and will probably adapt to your version on there once the rotation happens online.  I tend to stall out 50% of the time using a turn 1 inquiry-I combo much more consistently with a turn 1 tome scour and believe that the bloodghast and lost truths creature will help tremendously.
4  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / New standard control W/r on: September 30, 2009, 05:39:14 am
Here is a basic shell of a control deck for the new standard.  I believe that sligh and creatures in general are  the main way to win current standard.  I suggest a creatureless control which should make at least 4 cards in every deck dead-- many decks may have 6-8 dead cards.  This is a rough draft,  please add/remove any suggestions appreciated.

4 Ajani Vengeant
4 Elspeth Knight Errant
4 Silence
4 DoJ
4 Intimidation Bolt
4 Volcanic Fallout
4 Martial Coup
4 Conquerors Pledge
4 lightning bolt
4 arid mesa
12 plains
8 mountains

I think Baneslayer Angels in the board would be good but the rest of SB not sure of atm.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Rumors/Previews/mtg.com articles on: September 30, 2009, 05:10:45 am
I think it would be fun to draft with the all foil packs but really not that appealing- even with a rare in each pack, odds of making up the 12$ per booster isnt very good.

I finally have my ichorid sideboard!

haha! Leyline this bitches :-p
genius.   I now have my Ichorid SB.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Deck] Chandra Ablaze [1st Draft] (extended deck proposal) on: September 21, 2009, 03:30:17 pm
Criticism regardless if insulting is what we need here.  I personally never played any version of RDW except for goblins in extended and legacy and trying to help make a chandra ablaze deck that might work.  The inquiry although not a great card works a bit in filling the yard for chandras ultimate as well as combos with temper.  Not a tier 1 deck by any means- only a theory to see if it can go anywhere with the proper alterations.  What would you make of a Chandra ablaze deck Jewfro? or specifically change from our builds to make them more viable?
8  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Summoning Trap on: September 21, 2009, 03:10:33 pm
I really like the traps-- not all of them, but the concept is amazing and who doesnt like free spells.  As long as they make enough of them and continue making them through the rest of the block, i think they could possibly have a major impact later on.
9  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Zendikar: Grazing Gladeheart and Hedron Crab* on: September 21, 2009, 02:24:28 pm
EDIT:  Would the crab work in Mana Ichorid?

I am willing to test it out.  in my extended deck i am running tome scour and instead of 5 cards its only a mill of 3 but also gives me a dude.  I doubt it would really fit or even be needed in legacy or vintage dredge as there are just too many better cards in that slot IMO.
10  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Rumors/Previews/mtg.com articles on: September 21, 2009, 12:14:15 pm
So with the many traps coming out including a few playables, you guys think cunning wish could become a hot commodity again?  I have a set (because of my outdated reset hightide legacy deck) and was wondering if I should definately hold on to them.
11  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Zendikar: Grazing Gladeheart and Meecrob* on: September 21, 2009, 11:33:19 am
I may consider the Meecrob in Dredge..  possibly
12  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Disfigure & Trapmaker's Snare on: September 21, 2009, 11:31:04 am
if that trap is real, i'm going to be thrilled with my ichorid deck....

This trap could easily replace leyline in the sideboard although after you pop it, its just like crypt and dredge can still go off.  I doubt there will be more dredge hate in sideboards than thre already are,  just that the options are more varied.  The trap is much better vs decks with Y Will IMO
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Zendikar Card Discussipn - Vampire Hexmage on: September 20, 2009, 02:54:21 pm
The amazing combos aside, this guy looks to be hitting sideboards hard come october possibly making a small splash through every format IMO.  How big a splash wont be known for a while yet but I am certain there will be one.  Any extended deck says affinity loses.  and if you are not playing bounce, you lose to marit lage..  also marit lage could easily be protected via discard and counter control in a solic B/u suicide control deck.
14  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Disfigure & Trapmaker's Snare on: September 20, 2009, 02:48:23 pm
I like disfigure as well.  for  {B} it will be ran in many decks i think easily over darkblast in extended.  maybe not in Legacy or vintage but I am sure it will see a lot of play in the other formats.  The snare has potential if they do make a lot of traps similar to the splice onto arcane jank they did in kamagawa block.
15  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Zendikar Card Discussipn - Archive Trap on: September 20, 2009, 02:43:29 pm
So after reading eveeryones posts, I am leaning towards this card wont have an impact at all in vintage. possibly extended IMO but that may be the only place besides of course standard.  I see every standard deck running fetch lands come October.
16  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Deck] Chandra Ablaze [1st Draft] (extended deck proposal) on: September 19, 2009, 04:03:31 pm
instead of browbeat, burning inquiry draws 3 cards for  {R} then discard 3 at random.  not the best but for most of the cards being replayable through Chandras endgame, might be better than browbeat.  it also hits your opponent making it disruption as well.

heres a list I would possibly run like yours, just an experimental start all cheap quick effeicient burn

4 Chandra ablaze
4 rite of flame
4 chrome mox
4 simian spirit guide

4 lightning bolt
4 incinerate
4 fiery temper
4 burning iquiry
4 Shard Volley
4 Shrapnel Blast

10 mountains
2 keldon megaliths
4 Deserts
4  Great Furnace

since nothing costs double red except for chandra (the temper is comboed off inquiry for  {R})  16 3 damage spells and 4 5 pointers.  shrapnel blast  may not be the best there but you really only need one to hit after a bunch of 3's.  I run 4 chandras as it is imperative to draw 1 although you may win without her, she is a major factor.
17  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Dredge in Extended on: September 18, 2009, 12:30:04 pm
if i remember correctly, One With Nothing discard you hand for  {B} then draw one during EoT?
18  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Rumors/Previews/mtg.com articles on: September 18, 2009, 10:36:18 am
I'd be really surprised if Instigator stayed above 10 once the hype dies down. I would think it to be a 10 dollar card for most of it's life-span unless Gobs became the DTB in standard or Extended. In playability levels it's only worth like 5-7, but I'm sure casual players and people who just read 'lackey ability' on it will keep the price raised.

Lotus Cobra is more interesting. It definitely could be a 20-25 dollar card, it has that level of power and does something that can't be reasonably imitated by something cheaper. The price will likely be around 20-25 at first and then drop based on playability. Sort of how Noble Hierarch was 15 bucks and then dropped to around 7-8 after a few months and the hype died down. We could see Cobra start at 25 and drop to 12-15 if it's only good in some random Bant or Ramp deck for Standard.

I agree totally
19  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: How much power do you own? on: September 18, 2009, 10:32:18 am
I think trading them in 1for1 is a great idea even if they just replrint the originals so if you have a totally beat lotus, you can pay a small fee and send it in for a freshly minted one.  I also thought that when Wizards offered orders for special cards in books at a limited price (ala Mana crypt) and number was a great idea.  They could easily revive that as an incentive tradeoff as well.
The trade-in idea is very interesting.

Example:
1.)  You trade in your unlimited Black Lotus to wizards for a new alternative art one.
2.)  Wizards redistributes the old black lotus to a preferred dealer, holds a contest, sells on ebay.
3.)  You now have two lotuses in the marketplace without distrupting value or supply too much.  Some people will want the "presumably" rarer alternative art Lotus, some the original.
4.)  The supply is slowly doubled in the market, without any major disruptions to the marketplace.

I really like the idea of an alternate art foil variant  Very Happy
20  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: [New Card Discussion] Lotus Cobra on: September 17, 2009, 12:44:12 pm
I dont think he will make any real splash in vintage unless a deck is created to abuse landfall like oboro/cobra/fast bond/glacial chasm.  Or combo fastbond/oboro/bloodghast/altar for a 35 point demon fire.  I really see this guy being a staple in New Zoo extended with Scythe Tiger eliminating his drawback.
21  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Dredge Questions on: September 17, 2009, 12:27:47 pm
Besides, what else are you gonna side out for 10 to 15 cards?
Good point.  I have been partly successful with the deck -- making prize most of the time but missing top 8 in most bigger events.  Could be my sideboard strategy is off.  My current SB i wanna run is a Zoo variant.  The last time i played the deck was a ptq late 2007 early 2008 because of Army training.  I realize a lot has changed over the last 18 months  Sad
22  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: B/R bitter ordeal list on: September 17, 2009, 11:08:07 am
Bloodghast might really work.  combos nicely with Gargadon, especially if you play him- dsac him drop a sac land and sac bloodghast again then sac sacland and sac bloodghast a thrid time.  Could get crazy.  He is  {B} {B} and could fit well with the mana base.
23  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Dredge in Extended on: September 17, 2009, 11:04:35 am
I will look into cutting a target. with that I believe cutting 1 sphinx to leave 2 win conditions and also cutting one flame kin zealot for an inkwell leviathon as an alternate.  Also my build is short one card already so with cutting one of the drad return targets I will have 2 slots open.  Any suggestions there?  I am realy just hoping that Zendikar has one more great card that fits seamlessly into this deck at the 2 slot.  we will see soon enough.
24  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: B/R bitter ordeal list on: September 16, 2009, 07:06:26 pm
Gargadon is a must in this deck: uncounterable and massive impact for  bitter ordeal. IMHO REB's and pyros are needed, at least 3-4 in total, if not to prevent tinker or so, at least they can protect gargadon from bouncers (it should be your primary wc).

I have been thinking and maybe a red stax is the natural deck for bitter ordeal and gargadon, along with welders, crucibles, smokestacks... and ravager :p Stax provides a hard lock and bitter ordeal could cut any response.

  love it...   Bitter Stax
25  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Dredge Questions on: September 16, 2009, 07:00:00 pm
dread return sided out?  in my experience i never got rid of returns.. and they definately make the deck faster.  I just hate control and anything to do with it so FoW in dredge is blasphemy and i will never run it.  of course FoW dredge will lose to non FoW every time IMO. It might get a slightly better matchup vs combo but cuts down its high game one win percentage which is bad considering the hate.
26  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Spell Pierce on: September 16, 2009, 06:50:16 pm
I think it will impact vintage and legacy but nowhere else.  It seems really good to me as most players do EoT turn 1 stuff or try to combo off and oops, they are 2 mana short..  It will definately slow decks down and buy people time.
27  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [Single Card Discussion] Blood Ghast on: September 16, 2009, 06:41:14 pm
What do you guys think of this build?

improvement forum
My bad.
I have been testing it as well and the bloodghasts make mana dredge more ridiculous and I believe truly more consistent.   I am certain he will have a home there for sure as well as in various other zoo type decks in both extended and type 2.  I know i am running 4 of him in all versions of my dredge deck.

Wow - just did some testing with an interesting list using Blood Ghast, - Dakmor Salvage is hugely useful in getting your Blood Ghasts into play and they seem to accellerate the build to an even faster level.  Fetchlands are another very useful way of enabling Bloodghast, I even considered Dread Returning Dryad Arbor to play to up my Zombie count (after sacrificing 3 Blood Ghasts), which then in turn I could have Dread Returned again using the 3 newly returned Blood Ghasts.
I did pretty much the same thing in playtests (my list is definately different).   Very happy with Bloodghast Very Happy
28  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Dredge in Extended on: September 16, 2009, 11:05:32 am
I like the Mox in certain decks (goblins come to mind here) but not in my new experimental build using bloodghast as a second narc.  If anyone playtests any version of this, please let me know how well it does.  i appreciate all the opinions as well-- this thread got much more participation than I thought it would  Very Happy
29  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: How much power do you own? on: September 16, 2009, 10:12:56 am
Original movie posters have watermark seals when they know that they will be worth something (IE Star Wars) and that isnt really expensive to do.  that or something similar to what they do for 100$ bills.  I think it could work if Wizards really wanted to pull it off.
30  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Dredge in Extended on: September 15, 2009, 07:29:26 pm
Tome Scour seems miserable.  You can't guarantee that you're going to hit any Dredge cards, so you can't really keep a hand on the strength of Tome Scour.  Heck, One with Nothing is probably better.  And you probably want some sort of continuous discard outlet; I recommend looking at Oona's Prowler or Magus of the Bazaar.

Sadistic Hypnotist is a fine Dread Return target, because it says "I haven't dredged enough to win here with damage, but I can knock the other guy out of the game and get some guys."

My original build ran 4 magus and looters and it was just way to slow and too easily disrupted by every deck with creature hate which is every deck in extended.    The current build wins turn 2 a lot.  turn 3 at the latest.  tome scour may not be the best but combo with at least one inquiry or goblin lore = gg a turn 2 lore usually wins and on the rare occasion it doesnt,  then turn 3 for sure.   hypnotist also died too easy and he was a wasted dread return slot,  rather return a win condition or a creature that draw 2-3 when entering play which basically is a win condition.
