1  Eternal Formats / Creative / B/G suicidal vintage hate on: January 15, 2010, 04:16:04 pm
Hello. Since the metagame here is almost unpowered I used to play a budget version of ANT (no moxes, the only expensive staples were Mana Crypt and lands). Now, I am willing to play the Legacy Grand Prix in Madrid and, as far as I know, the eternal community is organizing vintage side events for those days.

The sad thing here is: 1) I can´t afford power and 2) I dislike the use of proxies. So I´ve been working on a suicide budget deck that splashes green for Tarmogoyf. It is like a vintage version of Eva Green legacy´s archetype.

Creatures:

4 Tarmogoyf
4 Phyrexian Negator
4 Dark Confidant
3 Tombstalkers

Format hate:

4 Null Rod
4 Sadistic Sacrament
1 Pernicious Deed
1 Darkblast

Tutors:

1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Consultation

Draw engine:

1 Necropotence
1 Yawgmoth´s Will

Mana accel:

4 Dark Ritual
1 Cabal Ritual

Selective Disruption:

4 Duress
4 Thoughtsieze

Lands:

4 Wastelands
1 Strip Mine
4 Bayou
2 Polluted Delta
2 Marsh Flats
1 Bloodstained Mire
2 Verdant Catacombs
2 Swamps

SB:

4 Layline of the Void
2 Krosan Grip
3 Oxidize
2 Umezawa´s Jitte
4 Diabolic Edict

I am not sure about Pernicious Deed. I have not tested it but it seems just too slow for competitive enviroment.
Even in Legacy this card isn´t used in tempo builds like this one. Perhaps it is just situational. I am running one, but it is not a good tutor target...

In Legacy I use Hymn to Tourach over Duress. Here I am using thoughtsieze as duress 5 to 8. Intuition says to me that in vintage it is crucial to keep my opponent out of what he/she specifically needs.
Do you think I should have a room for more discard like the Hymn?

It´s hard for me to accept a black suicidal deck without Sinkholes, but I´ve heard that in Vintage it is not quite relevant because manabases stabilize whith artifacts. I´m already running LD in the form of Wasteland and Strip Mine but, since I´m also running Null Rod to neutralize moxes, what would be the effect of raising the land destruction effects?

Thanks for reading...

Thanks to both for that quick response.

I am aware of the Null Rod problem and I was guessing if maybie the new Sadistic Sacrament could help by making it harder to cast (and it is just marvelous against many other decks). I could replace the wraiths for it but I am not sure on how will that affect the heavily combo orientation of a deck that really needs to be thinner.

I`m currently running three tendrils at the sideboard. I believe that I should play at least one in main, thanks for the advice.

Hello, I´m willing to know if you consider that this combo is viable as maindeck win condition for this particular monoblack build:

Combo:
4 Helm of Obedience
4 Leyline of the Void
4 Serum Powder

Card Advantage:
1 Necropotence
1 Yawgmoth´s Bargain
1 Yawgmoth´s Will
4 Infernal Contract
4 Street Wraith

Tutor:
1 Demonic Consultation
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor

Mana:
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Jet
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
1 Lion´s Eye Diamond
1 Lotus Petal
4 Dark Ritual
3 Chrome Mox

Protection:
4 Duress
2 Thoughtsieze

Lands:
2 City of Traitors
2 Ancient Tomb
4 Polluted Delta
6 Swamps

Do you think that it is competitive enough?
How should I improve it?

Thanks
