1  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / WG hate deck....your kidding right? on: October 03, 2004, 09:18:47 am
@Power9man I think you missed the living wishes MD. So virtually he plays 4 strip and 7 waste main(!).

Personally I think this deck has potential in the current metagame because it has so many silverbullets that are useful on their own (aka creatures). This is definitely an improvement to the old parfait-style deck althought i can think of having problems to fight counters (excluding the xantids).

Perhaps you could include a single regrowth to get back your important hosers, when they get killed.

As for tutors I can only imagine that worldly tutor could be a good fit in this deck because of the high potential of your creatures to hose the opponent completely.
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / What impact will Crucible of Worlds have on the metagame? on: August 11, 2004, 07:17:49 pm
I agree with most of you that Crucible will affect the metagame but not that drastically to justify a restriction.
I could image Crucible being played in almost any deck but most of the time as a one-of because multiples of them don't work together and it is useless later in the game when both players have plenty of mana.
Like AngryPheldagrif did, I compare Crucible to Trinisphere as both of them are often seen as a first-drop in stax builds and can lock the opponent down completely with the right draw. Nonetheless (although both can take effect until lategame) I consider Trinisphere the worse thread because it can take down combo too.
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / Need Help Converting Combo Deck! on: July 23, 2004, 09:48:02 am
I'd further cut the Ironworks from Frappie's list...
...because with only about 16 artifacts worth sacrificing to Ironworks it is not needed anymore.
So we end up with what looks like a bad Tendrils-combo deck.

I think like you said you need some broken stuff but if you want to keep the core you mentioned (which i think is Ironworks and Roar/Sunrise) it will just be too slow for the format and lacks disruption of any kind.
I appologize if this was a bit harsh but in my opinion this is unfortunately not a deck that can be converted to t1 without completely changing the engine.
4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Single Card Discussion] Viashino Heretic on: July 03, 2004, 07:59:01 am
I think the main reason for Shaman over Heretic is the tempo advantage. In general you want to use the Shaman only to deny the mana of your opponent early (e.g. killing moxen) and sometimes to hit for some damage or to chumpblock.
When you compare the Shaman to Heretic the most obvious thing to mention is like you said the casting cost, followed by the activation cost. In my opinion the Heretic will almost never be used to do the job the Shaman was designed for in this deck and I'd never replace the Shaman with the Heretic MD because you lose so much speed (which is most important for fish).
Nonetheless I consider Heretic in the SB as a good metagame option against 7/10 and other Workshop decks.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / U/B Affinity on: July 01, 2004, 11:35:42 am
Have you ever thought of adding red to your deck? it doesn't hurt the manabase that much but you have to change your playing style from aggro-control to pure aggro (well I think that is what affinity is supposed to be).
By adding red you could use 4 Shrapnel Blasts and/or wheel of fortune.
For me the draw7 plan has worked out really good because our playgroup is not that much powered. The only problem you'll face is combo decks because you'd have to cut some counters.
What I like at your deck is the hoverguard tech! It synergizes really well with force of will and it flies!
Last but not least I'd definitely cut the mind twist for a memory jar or another broken card because in your deck twist is really weak. The only use I can see is after you've drained something big but you'd always rather play more guys than strip away your opponent's hand.
6  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / New User/Artifact Deck on: June 21, 2004, 12:38:11 pm
1. He said it's a highlander deck which means he is not allowed to play more than one copy of each card (exept basic lands).
2. I want to ask a question too: Do you really play with Chaos Orb?
3. What about Acquire from 5th Dawn? You can search your opponent's deck for artifacts and bring them into play.
4. I think you could need more draw power (perhaps thirst for knowledge, rush of knowledge or even treasure trove)
5. A little more graveyard recursion would be great (why not try to splash red or white for goblin welder or argivian archeologist? A friend of mine works with pemmin's aura on goblin welder Smile )
6. When looking at your list I guess your group doesn't play counters but nonetheless you need to protect yourself and your combos so another suggestion would be to play something like leonin abunas or fountain watch (at least they can come into play faster than darksteel forge)

I hope that this will help you a bit.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / [Deck] U/R Tim needs help. on: June 12, 2004, 06:24:43 pm
I like the idea of a combokill with MoM. You don't need MoM but when it hits the table you win by simply cycling through your deck (of course you need a dagger or curiosity to kill but even without carddraw it could be possible to kill "Hulk-style")
Instead of Tim you could play Suq'Ata Firewalker. At least he can't be killed by a random fire or bolt.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Belching Dragon (Take 3) on: June 11, 2004, 03:23:47 pm
I don't like the idea of having it deal damage the turn it came into play. Perhaps you should use a wording like the one on Erg Raiders.
Or you could make it like Razormane Masticore to shoot every turn.
Another suggestion is to use counters: "Every turn ~this~ did not attack put a charge counter on it. Remove two charge counters: ~this~ deals 2 damage to any target."
My last idea is to make it like a giant Orcish Artillery (Attack or Tap to shoot). I think this would be a good idea because this way after the dragon dealt damage he can not serve as a blocker anymore, and maybe you can figure out a way to shoot multiple times effectively.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / [Deck] Black Tower on: June 09, 2004, 06:25:21 pm
I think Will'O'the Whisp would fit in great. And as a win condition the torch is strictly better than fireball. Perhaps you could hava problems getting the red mana you need to cast your finisher. At least you should add a mox ruby (if you can afford it) or play some mountains (duals?). Even if you draw a lot of cards it could be possible, that your opponent can destroy the mox diamond or you already had to blow up the loti.
