This one is a bummer, simply because it's on the same day that Waterbury is. I obviously promote waterbury and everyone here on TMD but i feel that i should post this, maybe if for no other reason than to prove to people that my dates cannot simply change. Like always Type 1 five proxy, with additional proxies at a dollar each. $10 Entry Fee Prizes will be based on attendance with %100 Entry going towards prize support. When: April 30th at 3pm. Pizza is given out like always around the 4th round of play. Apparently Domino's doesn't go over well in some peoples stomachs however - as noticed at the last tournament. 1600 Falmouth rd, Centerville Massachusetts. www.capegames.comOn the site you can find directions through a little bit of searching. Thanks to everyone for their support. I don't expect hardly anyone to be able to make it to this however i thank anyone who even considers it by reading the post.

Now, how is this deck any better(depending on the metagame sometimes) than a straight monored deck. 4 maindeck forks are better than splashing blue for the draw and counter. Simply because Fork sometimes just reads :
RR
Counter Target Counterspell or Draw Three Cards
Along with a multitude of other good draw spells.
Combine this with Pyrostatic pillar and solid burn spells, and you have a deck that i think is definitely better than this one.

Chris, thank you for coming down and making the trek, not once but twice to our store in one day. I'm Richard from behind the counter for reference. Oh and excuse my dazed appearance the day of the tournament, several of the players in the tournament kept me up the 36 hours prior to the tournament drafting the hell out of kamigawa. Again, thanks for coming down and i appreciate your constant support to the store.

This should honestly be something kept to pm's probably however i will say something that should be heard by everyone that has any interest in visiting the store anyways. Doomhed: If you would like me to send you a monthly calender of events that The Gathering holds i can do this for you. I would even send it to you at the beginning of every month if you don't mind. Except in some very necessary situations, our event dates don't change by month. My store is packed each month by avid Warhammer players, Yu-Gi-Oh players, crazy Video Game Players, and of course our strong following of magic players, type 1 or type 2. Each weekend has different events that fill up those days. For Reference: Our last saturday of every month is always taken by our Cash Prize Magic Tournament. Our second to last Saturday is always taken by our Cash Prize Yu-Gi-Oh tournament. The Second saturday of every month is taken up by a large $15 entry Warhammer tournament. Each Friday of every month has the store filled with Type 2 Friday Night Magic players from opening at 2:30pm to close at 11:30pm. Each Sunday night we hold several Booster Drafts for anyone interested and we've gotten a solid following for this as well. I actually invite any of you who love drafting to come down and play on sunday nights. We start between 8 and 8:30 and usually end around midnight or so. Our Drafters our some of the best around and if you don't believe me, come down and see for yourself. A few guys from Brockton made an appearance to one of the sunday night drafts aand though it was a little later than expected until we got out of here, it was still a great draft. the rest of our weekend time is spent preparing for the JSS we hold here in exactly a month. we have the most solid following of 14 and unders that are great at magic. a few of them play in the type 1 tournaments and always makes solid appearances. During the week we hold video game tournaments along with monday through thursday being free video game nights. Xbox's, game cubes and a playstation 2 are hooked up every day of the month for play. if during the weekend, (including friday) it's $10 dollars each day, but the locals get our store memberships at $25 dollars a month which allows free play anytime. On top of all of this we have a computer room in the back that houses 15 online and running computers strictly meant for gaming. Personally designed and built by our computer guy, they are without a doubt top of the line. Just another thing to add to our already hectic calender. Part of this may seem like advertisement for the store however TO's like doomhed or anyone else need to understand that it is impossible for us to hold a tournament on a different day simply because someone else may be holding a tournament on that day. We're not just a card store, we're Cape Cod's gaming community and we're busy every day. Again doomhed, although you don't seem to be in any way accepting of my apologies, i am sorry that this may disrupt your tournament situation at your venue, it's simply something that's non negotiable. again, for your reference: November's tournamentDecember's tournament held on the 18th because the next weekend was christmas(our extremes situation)January's tournamentFebruary's tournamentI could actually keep going back in the months however you could simply look up "Cape Cod" on the search option to find all of these.. -Richard, from The Gathering.

I thank Kowal for responding as fast as doomhed can post. All of that aside, i share the same concerns and i see the same flaws in this tournament as everyone else does.
As for what JuggernautGO has said. we would be looking for a 30 person turnout in order to really hold a mox tournament down here and allow 2nd, 3rd and 4rth place to get a prize at a $15 entry fee.
You say you can guarantee a turnout a 30 people at $15 entry fee. I really would love that, however i am not the store owner so i cannot bank on really just you saying this. Obviously i cannot expect you to pay the difference if we didn't make 30 people however the first thing my boss would say is just that.
On the same wavelength, if i had enough people respond to this post with similar reasons as to why they cannot make it down here(ie: it's not worth the drive for a mere low cash entry) then i can show him this and it might give him the incentive to try it one month. I really wish we could have mox tournaments here like we have had in the past. Because they were a large success/ However, with us being on cape cod i would need a really strong supportive backing from all of you on TMD who would consider coming to our tournaments.
I thank all of you who do share your concerns with me.
Doomhed: I apologize for how this may look to you but it's relatively common knowledge that our tournaments are held consistantly on the last saturday of every month. Again, i apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused you during this month however i try to post as early as possible. This month was very hectic for me.
Kowal: Thank you for saying what you did and also thanks for giving me a reason why.

What: Type 1 Five Proxy. Like always you can pay $1 for each additional proxy Prizes are based on attendance and it will be a $10 entry fee. <--fat, yet happy. getting some daily while fat is tech.
On another note. I forgot to mention that even for non smokers, having cigarettes during tournament days is definitely abusable and doesn't count towards you getting addicted.
Having a few puffs between rounds is alright for several reasons. it gets you out of the cramped scene for a few minutes and there is usually several other people out there taking a few puffs as well. This will calm your nerves down, even if it is just mentally, by talking with other people in a more quiet environment.

I think that it's partially the venue's responsibility to provide access to food or drink when holding a tournament.
Players shouldn't be forced by time constraints set by the venue when the TO/owner should very well know that people do need to eat. Places should offer a time period around "dinner" time between 4-7PM even if just to allow players to drive a close distance away to a nearby fast food place or subway etc.
Free Pizza is great way to go(even better when my place gets it "nearly" free from domino's), but when I'm on the road, i usually find that as long as i haven't had a horrible sleep schedule within the last few days that water is the best thing. Followed closely by my caffiene addiction through soda. The latter option is more for those crazy sleep schedule situations.
As long as there is access to some sorts of liquids, then dry foods that can easily be carried are probably best.
I'm biased from being a huge Bridlewood shortbread fan however it is easy to travel with and is high is saturated fats and carbs(butter is in abundance in shortbread) which mimics what Hyperiod said with things that won't be digested fast.

With you only being able to afford a budget version of any build, ELD is one hundred percent correct.
The dragon lists that you would be looking at cannot "race" control slaver simply because control slaver isn't just a combo deck.
It's name is control slaver for a reason. You can only afford a non-blue version of the deck and that doesn't give you the resiliancy or even just the counter backup to support a consistant win vs. Control Slaver.
Madness can usually drop enough threats to out run a slaver lock. They may very well be able to drop and possibly activate mindslaver once against you however the chances of being able to consistantly reccur it is nearly impossible.

Alright everyone, there's a new TO/ Manager here on Cape so hopefully these tournaments will be run better, have a better environment, and hopefully bring some of you back now. Our previous manager has quit due to "overwhelmingness or exhaustion," which to me is a bunch of crap anyways, but no matter, The owner offered the position to me, an opportunity I gladly accepted. Alright, passed all that, time to get to the good stuff. - Like always, the owner doesn't want a guaranteed prize structure yet so we're stuck on cash prizes based on attendance. The only way we could possibly change that is to have a constant showing of players here each month. At one time we had a guaranteed prize structure and it worked well for the store, but due to several failed attempts near the end, and loss of money, the owner bagged the idea. Date: February 26th at 3p.m. Type of Tournament: Type 1 Five Proxy event with the availability to buy proxies each for an additional dollar. Starting Entry Fee of 10 Dollars. Location: Like Always, Centerville MA. - "The Gathering" http://www.capegames.comOur website is beyond crappy, however in the frame on the left hand side, all the way to the bottom there's a link for directions, go to that and scroll down to find maquest already set up for you. Prize Structure(this will be based on a showing of 40 People) 1st Place: $200 2nd Place: $80 3rd Place: $40 4th Place: $40 5th-8th: $5 Store Credit(towards anything) Contact: The Gathering # 1-508-771-SHIT (7448) Perks: The Store, like every month, will offer free pizza around the 4th round of play to everyone who entered the tournament. We offer Xbox, Playstation 2, and Gamecube here as well. Looking for a popular game? we have it. super smash bro's, soul caliber, halo, halo 2, xmen legends, etc etc. Notes/Misc. Comments: I'm very aware of how unappealing this tournament looks to some people, knowing that the prize structure is based on attendance will make most of you really choose not to come. However I urge you, I beg you, to make the trek down here and visit the store. If you're looking for deckbuilding stuff we'll have it, we lean towards the side of having 90% of all cards in stock at any given time. If you're looking for a great venue, a place that's a bang worth the buck, than make the trek. If you're looking for a place that has the potential to hold great type 1 tournaments, than make the trek. We're not going to be able to turn this concept into reality within a months time however we cannot do it at all without all of you. This may mean cutting your losses at the first one, or maybe even the second one just to make an appearance here to show the owner that we can hold high quality tournaments. Thank you everyone who will even consider this place on your calender for the 26th of February. -Richard Kirchner, new manager/TO of The Gathering.

We are in the newbie forum mind you. Probably the reason this thread hasn't been closed yet. Though i really think if this is transfered over into the casual forum we could discuss bird ninja's or ninja's with "urza's wings."
The fish concept wasn't a bad idea, but the name was horrid. It's undoubtedly good in fish however i'm not sure it would be solid enough to allow any fish build to make a comeback.
Couldn't even make "The worst fish" deck and expect it to be successful.
I really think this thread could have serious potential in the casual forum however.

There shouldn't have been a problem. In massachusetts we have similar laws prohibiting gambling except for at liscenced areas, however the assistant district attorney of our area is also a rather avid visitor of the store.
The only issue i could possibly see is that it MAY have caused problems if the beginning bet wasn't a set amount. If players are not allowed to simply buy more chips and are stuck with the original amount they first paid to get them, then it's alright.
Not sure if this made any sense but i hope you understand what i mean.
If the players participating in the Poker tournament are forced to put in a set price on chips in the beginning(each player paying the same) and all of the money goes back into either helping the dealer run the table and/or back into prizes than there's no issue. Its' when the original "host" makes a profit, then something's wrong.

I know this is an anti climatic tournament for the month considering the low prize structure however this is all i could muster from the store owner.
I do not expect hardly any turnout from those of you not on cape because of the mass amounts of snow possibly still here however it is a week away and people should definitely make an appearance.
Not having the people makes the owner think these tournaments are a bust and will probably just end them all together until summer hits again.
Make a showing and take home some cash. the more people the higher the prize structure guys.

So I'm not hugely sure whether or not this would be effective but it could possibly get rid of a useless card or two if you come across one.
Devout Witness 2W Creature- Spellshaper [2/2]
1W, tap, Discard a card from your hand: Destroy target artifact or enchantment.
Seems like a good one of control creature.

On the point of holding decklists, I don't think holding them for 1 week is a big deal, especially since it would take probably take Ray almost a week to get them up anyway...
Holding them for a week is a big deal when the next big tournament is the following weekend. This along with the simple principle of the situation. The fact that Ray is grading papers and is rather busy currently is understandable, however in a general situation like this, it shouldn't be "not a big deal"

Thank you for your response adam however i may have been taken the wrong way. I was refering to you only having 1 misdirection and morphling, wondering why you don't have 2 of each of them.
Especially in todays metagame where though trinisphere may pretend to be popular, counter wars are much more common.
In the build I've been testing with i actually cut down my snake count to 3 so i could fit in another darksteel collossus. I originally had done what you did, however i found that i was forced to pitch my morphling more often than i had liked and was left with only the dsc as a solid win which was rather unlikely if tinker didn't get through for some reason. Just some thoughts.
No one should fault you however on the maindeck Annuls, as everyone was expecting MWS.

Was Kiega really worth the slot over Morphling #2?
It seems that your list is rather unstable with several unecessary "1 ofs"
This would include
1x Thirst for Knowledge 1x Kiega 1x Morphling 1x Misdirection
Why not the one mana less Impulse over the lone thirst. Mostly being because Impulse digs you a card deeper for less mana. It wouldn't seem that you'd be overly worried about chalicing for 2 in the current metagame anyways?
Either way, Congrats on the respectable finish.
Considering i couldn't even make the event which would only have been an hour and a half drive away, i'm not criticizing, merely wondering.
