Good Article.  Just curious as to why no coverage on the winning deck, TPS?  Despite the immense shop field, how did this storm based combo deck make it to #1?  Just wish you would cover on some of that in addition to the other material.

So since you live only like 1 hr away, can we do some playtesting Very Happy

Congrats on the finish man.  I have to agree with Steve said regarding finishing Top 8 with 3 different archetypes.  Good job!

Just out of curiosity, was it standard TPS or some other variation?  Pitch long? Grim Long? ANT? GWSX?

@median:  I suppose you could proxy ANT.  Main proxies would be: Black Lotus, Mox Sapphire, Mox Jet, Ancestral Recall, Timetwister
Secondary Proxies:  3x Underground Sea, 1x Bayou/Trop (?), 1x Chrome Mox (?)

You're right it does seem that it is very possible to proxy out this deck with ease, however, I don't know who enjoys playing with proxy dual lands >.>

@Matt Elias: Random question, did this article stem or at least was influenced from the thread on mtgs about "getting into vintage" ?

Because you are running Dark Confidants in your deck, it becomes apparent that you will suffer more from life loss and be more vulnerable to bad top deck by Ad Nauseam.  Even more so, as you said, Necro becomes completely unviable (well, or at least, definitely not as useful as it was prior to the addition of Dark Confidants).  If you're running Dark Confidants, why not just run the TPS version (BobStorm?).  The addition of Dark Confidants, yes, is great.  However, it impedes upon the maximum utilization of casting an Ad Nauseam for the win.

Hey Matt, nice article.  Pretty much covers all the angles a potential new vintage player would want to know about the format (price, price, price, and what's good).  It's funny because my friend was wondering how to get into the format with a good, affordable deck and I suggested 'Dark Times' as well.

Just wondering, is TPS affordable for the new vintage player?

I heard first place might be a Blue Hurricane from the Summer set if the entrants go over 100.

With these new goodies that Shop decks have with the release of World Wake, do you guys feel your sideboard has changed at all?

Hey Steve, I found it interesting that you decided to keep that 1 land hand with a bob and counter magic.  Think it was some spur of the moment type of judgment?

I feel the loss of Crucible due to the addition of Leylines is too significant.  Despite the fact it does mess up alot decks, there's nothing like a striplock with crucible out.  Dredge could be dealt with in other ways, perhaps, EEs?  I also think maybe dropping the 4 Juggernauts for a 2/2 split of Karn and Triskelions.

The Nature's Claim card looks really good.  I think I might try an add one in my Tez deck as tech.  Seems great in SB or MD.  Any thoughts on Bazaar Trader in the future?
