1  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Basking Rootwalla on: February 01, 2005, 04:42:51 pm
When Basking Rootwalla pumps itself, is it targeting itself?
2  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / touching your opponents deck on: November 21, 2004, 11:11:50 pm
I wouldn't consider it disrespectful as long as your gentle and not damaging the cards.  I think it would be a lot easier and faster to be pick a card if you are holding the deck then to have your opponent  deal it out on the playing surface.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / touching your opponents deck on: November 21, 2004, 10:54:17 pm
at a local tournament today, someone went to search there opponents library via rootwater thief, and their opponent said that your not allowed to touch someone elses deck except for something like cutting, and proceded to lay his deck out on the table.  Is this true?

would going over the white spot lightly with a black marker work?
5  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Marked Cards on: November 15, 2004, 03:57:34 pm
I recently bought a beat-up Underground Sea for $3.  The problem with it is that on the back, some of the paper has come off and there is a large "white" spot due to part of the back coming off.  The card still bends like a normal card because there isn't very much of the back missing.  THe problem is that when looking at the card in a sleeve it is obvious which card it is because the white shows up threw the sleeves.  Is there anyway to correct this and make it un-marked?

EDIT:It doesn't show through all sleeves, just a lot.  Also, i apologize if this is the wrong forum but I didn't know where to post it.
6  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / How I quietly went undefeated in the SCG III $500 side event on: November 14, 2004, 08:39:59 pm
I was wondering, what cards did you find yourself siding out frequently?
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / [Deck] PandeBurst, o how we missed you on: October 22, 2004, 04:56:14 pm
this deck is so much better with intuition for finding the combo pieces and squees, bazaars for card draw, and squees for the bazaars

I think that you should add a Sundering Titan because it is so good.  Also you should consider the Intuition/AK draw engine

I played at a small tournament today and I have some matchup analysis to add

Fish- This deck isn't to much of a problem as long as I can get the oath out before they draw Maze's and rootwater thiefs

Stax- Just plain bad.  CoW and waste is pretty much game

Affinity -These games are always close.  I usually end up losing the first but with sideboard I have the advantage

GAT -This match ends up coming down to who gets the most draw and counters.  I ended up splitting against GAT.

Madness- Definetly in my favor, especially with sideboard.

Hopefully I'll have something about 4c control and control slaver up soon

As an aside, I'm not sure why you would run 3 Mindslavers, 1 Crucible, and no Tinker.  Wouldn't it be feasible to run 1-2 Mindslavers, 1 Crucible, and 1 Colossus, etc. in the sideboard?

I do have a crucible in the sideboard.  I don't see the advantage of having more mindslavers in the sideboard.  The reason I dont have a Colossus is because I don't want to oath in to it. I'd rather get a mindslaver lock

With a mindslaver lock, it creates a lock on the game a turn faster then a DSC wins the game

Assuming you have access to 4 mana. Orchard + Mox + Oath is much quicker to set up than Orchard, 3 other mana sources and oath, unless you have tons of moxen opening hand which is just game anyway.

You would only have to play a mana source a turn once the the oath is in play to have  4 mana by the earliest time you can activate the Mindslaver

I was reluctant to post this deck because of the uprise in oath-combo decks, but here goes.
//NAME: Oath Slaver
   Mana//23
        1 Sol Ring
        1 Black Lotus
        1 Mox Emerald
        1 Mox Ruby
        1 Mox Sapphire
        1 Mox Jet
        1 Mox Pearl
        2 Island
        1 Strip Mine
        1 Wasteland
        4 Forbidden Orchard
        4 Polluted Delta
        4 Tropical Island

   Combo//11
        4 Oath of Druids
2 Bringer of the White Dawn
        2 Krosan Reclamation
        3 Mindslaver

   Random//5
        1 Crop Rotation
        1 Time Walk
        1 Crucible of Worlds
        2 Cunning Wish

   Draw//13
   4 Brainstorm
        4 Thirst for Knowledge
        1 Ancestral Recall
        4 Accumulated Knowledge

   Control//8
        4 Force of Will
        4 Mana Drain

SB:  1 Crucible of Worlds
SB:  2 Misdirection
SB:  1 Gush
SB:  2 Oxidize
SB:  3 Blue Elemental Blast
SB:  3 Naturalize
SB:  3 Tormod's Crypt

Card Choices:
The idea of the deck is to simply use a Forbidden Orchard to oath out a Bringer of the White Dawn, with a Mindslaver in the graveyard.  By next turn you have a Mindslaver lock setup with a 5/5 trampler in play.

The draw in the deck uses AK's , Brainstorm, and Thirst for Knowledge.  The reason for AK's is that after an oath i have a reasonably large graveyard with hopefully a couple AK's in it.  The Thirst for Knowledge is to draw lots of cards and put a Mindslaver or even a Crucible in the graveyard.

The Crop rotation is to help ensure I get a Forbidden Orchard in play.  The Cunning Wishes are their mainly for dealing with annoying artifacts(null rod), or something like a Misdirection.

The countermagic is 4 forces and 4 drains for control, and to help activate the Mindslaver's ability.

I have not done much testing on this deck but its matchups against aggro are excellant and does very well against madness,  fish, and affinity

Sideboard:
I am still changing the sideboard around and comments on it would be appreciated.  Basically, it is for dealing with graveyard recursion and workshop decks.

Constructive critisism would be much appreciated.
14  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / blood moon and price of progress on: July 19, 2004, 12:37:26 pm
I'v heard conflicting things about Blood Moon, if there is one in play and i cast
a Price of Progress, will my opponent take damage if he has a non-basic land
in play/
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / Suggestions wanted on semi-competitive Oath deck. on: July 02, 2004, 09:01:59 pm
I have been playing a UGWR build of oath, where the red is only there sideboard fire/ice as well as red blast.  I have found that funeral pyre in the sideboard works very well with cunning wish.  I have also experimented with using standstills and sylvan library.  Also, I think you should try either Holistic Wisdom of Regrowth as well as replacing the Bayous with Undergrounds.  Instead of Mishra's Factory I'v used Treetop Villages
