Bump...

Aside from credit, the last couple have had a cash prize in correlation with the number of players that participate. So hopefully that gives some people a bigger incentive to come down and play, also a great way to start off the vintage year with some preparation for larger events.

Question; Is "Battle of wits" legal?

For those of you who are uninformed, "Battle of wits" is an enchantment that costs 3uu(snap*) to cast that states:
"At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 200 or more cards in your library, you win the game."

Personally I think "Battle of wits" is the future of the vintage meta and it's level of value far exceeds that of the power nine...nay you say...well do any of the nine pieces of power single-handedly win the game for you...didn't think so. "battle of wits": 1 , "power 9": 0

6  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: N.Y.S.E. XVI – 6/11 Lotus Tournament YEA THAT'S A LOTUS!!! on: June 12, 2011, 04:37:44 pm

Nick Detwiler created the doc: "N.Y.S.E. XV Tournament Report"

First off, I’d like to thank all 46 players that made the trip out to Brothers Grim yesterday to play some Vintage on Long Island.  In the end Paul Mastriano won it all, taking down Shawn Anthony in the finals.

The Black Lotus that Paul won has some history to it as well – as it is the Black Lotus that Sam Berse won at the second Grudge Match, and the Lotus that I won by beating Paul in the finals of the Dan Herd tournament.

Complete Metagame Breakdown

TPS: 1

Forino Sui Black: 1

U/B Belcher: 1

Replenish Combo: 1 (there are no Rituals in this list, but it’s filed under the combo pillar)

For a while it looked as though we had begun to see some definition within the blue decks, with DeMars Control variants and various Gush Storm decks claiming the top two seeds within the pillar.  Yesterday’s tournament showed that may not be the case, as Turbo Tezz outnumbered any other blue deck in the field.  The rest of the field remained relatively open as we did not see an oppressive presence of any given deck in the field.

9th Place Prize:

The winner of over 150 Predatory Urges was Matt Pate!  Congratulations Matt!

Player of the Year Race:

The Player of the Year Race standings will be updated tonight, and should be available either later tonight, or tomorrow (at the latest.)  My apologies on the delay for updating the standings.

In Conclusion:

My sincere thanks to Gil, Dave, Frank, and all of the Brothers Grim staff.  You’re the reason why your store is the best on Long Island.  My thanks to Nick Coss, dealer extraordinaire, to Brian Paskoff, the best judge I know, and last but by no means least, to all my competitors.  You are what keeps Vintage alive.

Tournament announcements for events in July and August should be up soon.  Keep your eyes peeled, and I hope to see you all at N.Y.S.E. XVI!

I'm going to see if I can get someone to drive my car back.  I'd like to fight the Russians again.

In case the Russians get the better of you, I believe there is one open slot in my hotel room.
I heard we were getting italian for the after party dinner
woh woh woh, this just got out of hand.

Whats everyone's opinion on taking out all the goyfs for 2 true believers and 2 kataki's main and replace the katakis in the sb with teegs?

1 goyf for 1 more meddling mage?

Yes, this does sound crazy but there have been more times where I need resilience more than a beater.

as for the land i just took out 1 tundra, works very well as far as the mana curve goes.

Any advice is much appreciated but please don't make a suggestion without reasoning behind it.
