You know how the Lakers were the Lakers when they were a team in the land of 10,000 lakes and then stayed the Lakers when they moved to Los Angeles?
The TMD Open will always be Waterbury. Even if it's not in Waterbury. Keep the memory alive! Waterbury forever!
I've only been to 3 or 4 of them, but this sentiment 100% rings true. Eagerly looking forward to this.

Congrats Keith! We had great games and I look forward to playing you again.
Shawn, great tournament. It was my first time at the new store and I enjoyed it.
@Smmenen - I borrowed the whole 75. Plus, Beta REBs, man. Who wants to find cards when they have Beta REBs right there? But, point taken.
Had fun seeing everybody again and playing the old crowd. Hope to see y'all around more.

I don't understand what the issue is over being dismissed and having ideas labeled as terrible in an internet forum.
Do you think for a second if Rich Shay and his team had posted Vintage Jund, complete with Bloodbraid Elf into Moxes, many people would've taken him seriously? "Better chance with the Jace v. Chandra deck" I heard about this deck and literally laughed out loud.
But Ryan Glackin made the finals with it and I considered picking it up.
Somebody right now is having an idea you dismiss, and somebody is dismissing your idea. We play the games to decide who's right.

I actually got the Cage/Wastelands/Counters package idea from Rich Shay, independent of the fact that I'm sure it's been done before since Cage came out. I also remember Chris Materewicz beat me twice in 2010 when I was on Dredge by using Rav Traps in Noble Fish... he always had two, and I always refused to believe his last card was a second Trap.
This was at the Philly Open Jake Gans won. I felt like hot shit when I did it to you. :p Jake blew me out with a Nix in the Top 8. :/

The Adjustment Bureau Thor Hangover 2 X-Men First Class Green Lantern Transformers: Dark of the Moon Captain America Moneyball Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows
They were all at least passable or better, except green lantern was disappointing.
X-Men and Thor were exceptional for comic book movies.
Moneyball is my favorite move in a long time, but I really enjoyed the book and felt like the move actually lived up to it.

Are these effects completely optional or optional as in "if someone misses them they'll be treated as optional and judges won't back up the game and force the abilities onto the stack?"
I kind of read it as the second one, but it seems like most people read it as the first one. Either way I hope there's some serious announcements/clarifications regarding what's going on and in my opinion the first option is just terrible. It completely obliterates printed functionality on 100s of cards.
It's totally different if they are just going to allow players and judges to treat certain abilities as optional if we miss them as derp our way through games.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: A new proxy system (hypothetical)

I do not like the hypothetical system. I like giving people 15 proxies and allowing them to manage them as they choose. If it's Moxes and Duals, so be it. If it's Samurai of the Pale Curtain and Tin Street Hooligan, so be it.
People audible decks at the last minute sometimes and don't always bring their entire collections to tournaments. They should be allowed to use their proxy limit to build a new deck. I am also not in favor of unlimited proxies. Being forced to read every card an opponent plays makes matches tough to play. 15-20 is a reasonable limit.
This system would be a deterrent to me playing in events. If I couldn't proxy the cards I wanted and were forced to buy them, I would probably stay home and save an entry fee and an after event dinner plus the cost of a few cards and be on my way to a piece of power.
I just think it's better to allow people 15 cards to use as they want.

Hometown vintage was fantastic today. I'm glad everybody turned out. Thanks to all who came and made it a great day.
Some highlights:
Thrun the Last Troll as a certified bomb. Jeremy always tries to cram crazy cards in decks(you've all missed out on such innovations like grave titan gush) and we talk him off the ledge, but I like this one.
A real Black Lotus next to a proxied Tin Street Hooligan.
My round two opponent got a game loss for a registration error. He promptly mulled to four on the play and had a fairly spectacular four of strand, crack, mox, sol ring, bob. My turn was slightly better: Land, mox, oath, lotus, time walk, preordain into ancestral, oath into BSC with dragon's breath on my free turn..
And the highlight of my tournament:
"Why did he scribble on it? I would have just drawn a dick on it."

It was a great event Ray, and I had a blast despite taking a series of thorough thrashings and dropping at 0-3. It was AWESOME to watch Scalzo take down a tournament and watch Team FOW sweep the tournament, team event, and Trivia.
Magic trivia-I very much look forward to Magic trivia and think it's an awesome thing to do while you're waiting for the tournament to finish. I think alot of people end up waiting at the end of the night because most people don't come to these events by themselves. I don't know why more than 4 teams didn't sign up, but maybe everybody else doesn't share my opinion. Free Side Event-This is nice to have the option, but wouldn't influence me either way. i come for the main event, and if i'm playing in this, I'm already having a really bad day. I also think alot of people are obligated to stay in due to the team competition.
Team Rivalry-This is a big part of the event. It helps keep the tournament relevant when you have a bad day and are out of contention. And who doesnt like bragging rights?
Feature Matches-i liked this alot and stopped by to watch a few throughout the day, though maybe next time a setup without a table standing on one side would be nice.
Streaming/videos of Feature Matches-I think it's neat to have them recorded for posterity/are too far away to travel.
Top 16 instead of Top 8-They don't do this at alot of tournaments and this always set Waterbury apart. i was disappointed when it was announced it would be a top 8 cut this time around.
Silly side contests(Last Man Standing, Farthest Traveled Prize, Last Place Prize, etc)-Don't care, doesn't influence me one way or the other #4) And finally, a yes/no question. Does the location (Gamingetc, Waterbury Marriott, other location) play a significant role in affecting your decision to come to one of my tourneys.
We talked about the location and what set the event apart on the ride home. We couldn't really come up with anything. It was just like..dude..it's Waterbury. I've missed one or two since I started playing vintage and usually regretted it.
