This tournament was well run, I had a great time thanks again! It was also sweet to top 8 with vit's deck, all credit goes to him for letting me borrow it.
3  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: Vintage at The Adventurer's Guild - Harrisburg, PA 7-29 Unlimited Time Walk on: July 28, 2012, 09:09:12 pm
Will FINALLY get to play some Vintage competitively. It has been too long.

I expect a feature match between us. Coming down to this event.

Justin Kohler played two decks? Or did two Justin Kohler's play? Who is the second Justin Kohler?  Smile

Also, 2 quarter finalists and 4 semi finalists seems weird...

Missing cards:
- Justin Kohler (1) 61 cards MD, 14 cards SB
- Anthony Scalzo 56 cards MD

4 Mental Misstep is missing in the maindeck.

Favorite part of the day was watching someone use splinter twin to win the game.

Whats Gencon? Is that where you can win games with no permanents and no cards in hand while staring down a 4/4 emrakul?

only if you are the legend.
9  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [TO Report] 41 Players for the April NEV Series @ TDG! Decklists, Metagame, etc! on: April 15, 2012, 01:50:04 pm
What format are we playing? Stoneforges, BBE, and Delvers? Still, awesome vintage top 8 with a big variety of decks. Not as much shops as I was expecting in top 8 though. I can't believe their was 0 dredge players. Too bad I couldn't go to this one I would have loved to play with the zombies.
10  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Top 4 with Noble Fish - NEV 3/10 on: April 04, 2012, 03:19:20 am
I actually got the Cage/Wastelands/Counters package idea from Rich Shay, independent of the fact that I'm sure it's been done before since Cage came out.  I also remember Chris Materewicz beat me twice in 2010 when I was on Dredge by using Rav Traps in Noble Fish... he always had two, and I always refused to believe his last card was a second Trap.

I used 4 Ravenous Traps in my first place build of the deck, and the first build where it was legal, in 2009: http://morphling.de/printview.php?c=1157&d=1

Otherwise, very nice report, and I am honored to be mentioned as a starting point for one of the format's best deck designers.

I think you both missed the point I was trying to make. I realize that ravenous trap has been used long before, the first time I was trapped was by Jeremy Beaver in testing back in 2010. I was simply saying as there are MANY options for people to side against dredge (Cage, Surgical, Leyline, Trap, Wheel of Sun and Moon, Crypt, Relic, etc.) and it was observant of you to shift back to traps which were barely being used in previous tournaments. Thanks to popularity of "Cagebreaker Dredge" people have mainly been using ignot chewers and nature's claims instead of leyline of santitcy or just in general playing around trap. I was very unprepared to deal with trap so was quite surprised when you had it.

I was simply pointing out an observation not credit for who originally used traps.

I'll be there.
12  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Top 4 with Noble Fish - NEV 3/10 on: March 13, 2012, 10:08:15 am
This deck was a monster. Having maindeck cages wasteland and countermagic seemed like a near impossible battle to fight for dredge. Elias also being very observant of the metagame had ravenous trap which my deck was very weak to. Gratz again for the finish, maybe one day I'll beat you in a feature match Razz
13  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: Northeast Vintage Series - Top Deck Games - Mar 10th, $1,000 in prizes! on: February 27, 2012, 01:44:11 pm
You guys might thank that Shops are the dark side, but you're wrong.  That title definitely belongs to Bazaars.  And no, I haven't gone over to the dark side of the force.

I'd much rather they restrict Workshop than Bazaar. It's certainly more fun to blow out people with hate cards than to discard a card every turn as I eat 5-15.

The control player hates Workshop and the Workshop player hates Dredge. What a shock.

They really should start banning Islands...

Congrats Nick on the win! Meta is really diverse right now. Loving the Dark Rituals in the T8.

3 espresso stax in the top 5 is diverse?

3 espresso stax
2 snapcaster-bob
1 gush
1 landstill
1 tendrils

or to break it down more...

3 artifact prison
4 blue counter weenies
1 black tendrils

No dredge, no oath, no noblefish, no goblins/elves, no bomberman, no hint of red/white/green as main colors.  Yeah, smells like diverse vintage to me.

beat me to it. computer froze up while typing  Sad
but yeah, what TheWhiteDragon said.

I hate to let the cat out of the bag, but New York is kinda know for being shop heavy. And saying that gro, landstill, and snapcaster/bob is the same deck is pretty funny.

I was going to say the same thing. NY is very shops heavy while I feel PA is much more blue heavy. Especially since you take blue out of context to just "blue counter weenies", Gro and Standstill are two very different decks. I am upset there was no dredge in T8 but still cool to see shops back on the rise after a lot of creatures recently. Once again congrats Nick.

So, this is just under 3 weeks away.  Who's going?

Me, Vito, and crew should be coming. We should be bringing a boatload of people to play Vintage and Standard.

Last year the whole car lost Round 1 to the NJ Turnpike.

This also happened to me the last grudge match. While my GPS said it would take under 2 hours, it took 3 and half. Sadly, I had to come in with a round 1 loss.

This year, I get a round one win whoopie!

We'll do our best to keep all repairing to a minimum, just don't 0-3 drop too soon Scalzo  Wink

It was 1-2 last time Razz and hopefully I don't play dark times anymore. I lost to that deck even on blue.

Congrats in the win. Although I am not a shops player I think Duplicant is a great card thanks to Blighsteel Colossus being everywhere. Great to see you win!

An event in NJ? Chance I'll be there but no guarantees.

EDIT: I'll be bringing a new vintage player. Fresh meat!

Well I have some good news and some bad news.

First the good news: Dear Mr. Nicholas Detwiler, I will be attending this event, along with Mr Shawn Anthony and Mr Josh Potucek.

And now the bad news(for everyone else attending): Shawn Anthony and myself built a deck to break the format.

Also I know Rob Edwards and Anthony Scalzo were looking for rides, I have 1 Seat left in my car. Whoever gets in contact with me first is more than welcome to come along. You would have to meet at my place though, which is just west of King of Prussia. You can PM me and I will give you  my number/address/etc.

While this is a really nice offer Allen, I have no car or way to get to King of Prussia and Scranton is approximately 2 hours away. Thanks for the offer but I have no way of getting that far.
