I ripped opena hot foily Assquatch in my sealed. That teamed up with 3 dumbasses and Staying Power made for some fun. (I permantly gained control of dudes). I also had hot Letter Bomb and World-Bottling Kit. I went 3-0-2 but still managed to not get any prizes due to 3 4-1 guys

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Is Mask now Finally Dead for Good?
|

Ive been playing NinjaMask since last spring. I think it's a great deck that no one ever expects to play against. You guys have to remember the multiple win condition on Mask, Shapeshifter. Shapeshifter runs off an Enchantment, not an artifact.
But I think what makes Mask good is the suprise factor, and the fact that it has ok matchups versus most decks, excluding stax, and combo sort of although Duress and Force will sometimes do it.
Ive playe Ninja at a few Power tournies and I made atleast top8 every time (although one time there was only 12 people and that doesnt count...). I made top8 at the 43ish person Myriad games tourny where I was paired against my friend in first round of top8, I gave him the games and he went on to win the tourny, but when we played it out I beat him pretty savagly, he was playing U/G Madness.
I dont think we should consider it dead, because its not terrible against the metagame, its just underplayed.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] UBW Control (4cC minus Red)

I think why Fire/Ice was so good was because it can hit 2 Welders, or 2 fish at the same time. StP gets rid of only one, so a better substitution may be found in Echoing Decay, it may not hit 2 different Fish but it defintly hits 2 Welders which is a good thing. It also handles multiple 2 toughness cards found in random aggro decks a lot better.
Maybe cut an Annul and a Seal in the MB for 2 Echoing decay and then cut 1 Coffin Purge 1 Duress for the Annul and Seal.

I too ran Thopter, but it was in a 1.5 tourny, which is about the equivilent of a budget deck except you can run 4 Petals, which I did. Thopter helped out a lot.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Mike Long Breaks Type 1 Again

This deck seems kind of interesting and I may even get of my lazy ass and test it, but what I'm really wondering is what was this Sho Ryu Ken T2 deck? Could someone possibly pm-me/post the list? Im just really curious, my friend seems to think it is something mono-red as Mike Long really enjoys mono-red.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] R/B Goblins

I think instead of looking for a good red creature to win with you may want to consider an artifact creature, such as Juggernaut. Or if not maybe a good black creature. Kokusho is making a large number of showings in T2, and I know T1 isnt anythin near T2, but he may be a good choice. I dont know how much mana you normally get out, but if you normally get a lot consider him.
Also you should board Pyrostatic Pillar and Scald. They are defintly good choices for a R/* hate deck, and another goblin you may consider is Zo-Zu the Punisher.

But, those all cost one, sometimes you can find yourself in a predicament where you have 1 green mana, a creature in hand, and everything you need out (Welder, Anger, Titan, etc.) but no artifact out, so all you need to do is get a 0 casting cost artifact creature (in my case Thopter) and from there on win. And I think Thopter is better because it can block pesky little flying fish, as well as chump angels and stuff.
That's why my first suggestion was Shield Sphere, which costs 0, but can actually block relevant threats. -Jacob

Would it be worthwhile to include a cheap artifact creature like Shield Sphere, Arcbound Worker, etc. to fetch and weld?
Yeah I had that problem big time in 1.5, and to solve it I added 4 ornithopter. They worked amazing. It was so much easier to get the 7/10 out, because they are survivable and cost 0. I think it may even be worth it to run 1 in T1.

I've actually found that having multiple Rangers, is very good. The deck seems to bend over to strip effects and running Rangers help so much. They also produce a large amount of mana with birds, and with multiple artifacts out you get to weld twice a turn, or even 3 times if you include during their turn.

Why not board Root Maze/Null Rod then. If your losing so bad to combo then Im sure losing a few moxes to Null Rod (they are still weldible!), to greatly increase your chances of winning is worth it. Root Maze may slow you down a little too much on the other hand, but they are really your only answers.

Maybe someday WotC will print something that makes Copy Artifact the shit. Like Sundering Titan, Collosus, Crucible (gets you out of lock), Juggernaut, Razormane Masticore, Trike, ...list = go on and on (not really but thats ok)

I really like the idea of this deck. It's like a budget Welder based deck (doesnt require Shops/Drains) but it still works very well.
I agree with whoever said Ranger should go in here. Any deck with Birds in T1 should run Ranger! That is crazy mana accel, and even better if they are hasted! So heres what I think:
You should lose 1 Birds, and possibly 1-2 Welders since you dont need to draw into them as much as in decks without Survival (I think Hi-Val pointed this out) And if you drop 1 Welder also lose the Lyrist and put in 3 Rangers.
I am strongly considering playign this deck.

Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck] Mono Blue/Fish Hybrid

Heres what I think:
I dont think Tradewind is all that good here, what you really need is Old Man of the Sea! Instead of forcing yourself to have 3 untapped creatures (Tradewind included) you can just Tap your Old man to permanently gain control of something like a Welder. Also he costs 1 less which is very important.
I also think Crucible would be very good in this deck. So here are the main deck changes I'm thinking of:
-3 Tradwind Riders -1 Fetch -1 Mana Leak
+2 Old Man's +3 Crucible
Or switch those to 3 and 2, whatever works better for your meta.
Also for your SB you should probably ad excess Crucible and Old Men there. Along with some Control Magic and maybe Echoing Truth so you can answer a collosus with something that doesnt cost 4 (Control Magic).
Hope I helped!
EDIT: OH YEAH! Raven is complety right you diffently need to fit Rod in there somewhere!

Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck Discussion] Lock Down Oath, very good, but needs help
|

Wasteland/Strip Mine-Everyone is playing these, and losing Diamond Valley is a bitch. Well, try playing Crucible yourself then. It will guarentee you have an active Valley, and you could even play Strip effects to hurt the oppenent even more. Chrome Mox-I played this over Sol Ring after testing for a while since I needed Mana for Oath/Mana Leak turn one, and being colored mana helps as well. If Mana Crypt didn't have such a drawback, I would play it over the Chrome mox, but even with gaining 5 life a turn from DC and Yosei, it's still too risky I beleive. That really isn't much of a drawback when your gaining 5 life a turn, thats a 2 or 5 life gain compared to a 0 or 3 life loss a turn. That really isnt much of a drawback compared to losing a card in hand to play it.

Hey, I really like the deck, but I also really disliek the Disk I dont know how well it works, but it just seems really anti-synergystic (I think thats the right wording). So heres what I'm thinking: -3 Disk -2 Swords +3 Crucible Add the swords to the board, and maindeck 2 Disenchants. And I also think you should drop some Juggies for some DoJs. So maybe -2 +2 or probably -1 +1 cause 2 may be too much.

Hi James Now first of all, you run SB card draw. Not good, card draw needs to be mainboarded unless you have Cunning Wish. So I would cut 2 Hungers, 1 terror, 1 banishing, 1 coercion, and 1 of each wall to put soem of that draw MD, just switch those named cards to the SB. And second of all TMD isnt type 2, so I have a feeling this is going to be locked :/ sorry. EDIT: The point of sideboarding is to improve certain match-ups. So in your case you need to sideboard better answers to decks. Echoing Truth is a good choice, as well as Last Word or Rewind. So, just keep that inmidn later on when creating decks/SB's.

Echoing truth beat me :/ That was a sweet topdeck on the YawgWin ELD I'd also like to point out it was Matt's first big tourny, and first time playing FCG. He's been playing magic for about 3 months and he plays 10 land stompy he used to have...parfait HAHA, but it got stolen. So now he is working up to FCG, and hopefully he'll do good with it. Also, I was wondering if there is going to be a T8 list for the Nashua tourny on here anytime soon.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] Team DD presents: Salvagers v3.0.dec

For Null Rod I guess you hopefully counter it, Duress it, or Wish for Disenchant. Or you can just always hope they dont drop anything else and beat with salvager/Trinket Mage.
As for wasteland, I dont know, possibly run Crucible/Strips ?
Heh, as for the above, you can pretty much just put that in any deck.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Madness Wins Against Fish: Continues To Be Bad Deck
|
on: July 21, 2004, 02:59:09 am

I love u/g madness, mainly because I used to play Oshawa Stompy [ ] and found that to be lacking, and u/g took it and made it win. You say you wanted more mana disruption, then why not play Crop Rotation/Crucible? Also SB Back to Basics works well (my friend won a tourny this way, you've probably read the report). So, if you're not feeling the Null Rods, then drop them for 2 Crucible and 1 Crop Rotation, or something like that. I also have a question, and I may just be missing something obvious, but why doesn't it run Bazaars?
