I am heading down there at the end of August, I hope to make it out to some Vintage/Legacy events.
Post on MTGParadise.com for tournaments/events or even accomodation - it's the aussie MTG site.

hvndr3d y34r h3x: I'm happy to see you pay it forward man. I'm not saying it never happens - there is a guy here who loans 2 decks out to try to get new players, and nother guy who purposely brings two decks where ever he goes to introduce vintage to new players.  But this kind of practice is seldom. I also agree with your embarassment comment.

Sorry to hijack the thread so to speak, but Vintage is a big thing in Magic for me, and it really annoys me when people dismiss it without giving it a try and the current players don't help as much as they should. So again, thanks Steve (like for the 3rd time)

Kenny - I'm honestly surprised you say that about our meta (in that you weren't welcome). Perhaps it's changed over time, but the only reason I started playing T1 is because the community was insanely welcoming. I arrived out of the blue with a teeeerrible sui black deck for my first ever T1 tournament with little to no clue about what was going on, and because the meta at the time was 4cc I came 4th which was awesome. Directly after the tournament, I chatted with the other players and one guy (did you ever meet Giles) bought me basically all the staples for UW fish (eg. all the commons) + 2 meddling mage purely with the store credit he and I had won that day. I went out and picked up a playset of FoW's for $50 and never looked back. You say that you felt like the T1 scene had a country club feel, but I don't remember seeing you around much earlier on when we had plenty of T1 happening on thursday nights - maybe it's just that we didn't see you around? Hell man, you're a top-notch guy and a good mate, I'm not trying to blame it on your attitude, but I also don't think that it's all our fault. I mean, there's at least 3 players including me that can now lend out basically any amount of duals to people who ask, but no-one bothers Sad

Does that mean we can get your current list Vroman? Are the Faerie Macabre's sideboard or maindeck - they seem pretty narrow, but I guess so is teeg to an extent.
EDIT: Is Vexing Shusher a card for this deck or am I way out?

I was your Ich opponent first round and I gotta tell you I believed you when you said you hadn't tested at all against Ichorid - I'll be more careful next time. Losing game 2 that way sucked as well, as well as getting 9th
on breakers.

Edited for typos
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / 5-proxy. on: June 01, 2007, 11:46:39 am
I've recently started playing vintage again with Ichorid, and I want to move up to a more complex and fun to play deck. I don't want to invest in power or bazaars yet, but I was looking at various 5-proxy decks and was wondering what decks you guys would recommend. I was looking at Dragon, but it seems to need to be fully powered + bazaars or close to it - does anyone have a decent 5-proxy list? Otherwise I could run Oath, but I don't know that the deck would be better or worse. My meta is pretty fluid, depending on who turns up for the day and who's running what deck. We have some Uba Stax, some Oath, some Ichorid but very little combo besides 1 guy who runs dragon sometimes and another who plays Hermit Druid combo.
EDIT: Is there a Doomsday pile that wins with the dragon pieces? I started with
TOP-Ancestral/LED/Street Wraith/Worldgorger/Animate Dead-Bottom
which draws the game for 1 blue for ancestral. You can straight out win if you are holding LED by going
TOP-Ancestral/Street Wraith/Worldgorger/Ambassador Lacquatus/Animate Dead-Bottom
But I couldn't figure one out for holding ancestral, but I'm sure there is one. What about when you have bazaar on the board? There has to be a viable DDay/Dragon UB Hybrid.

I've got to ask - for those that have been testing the Reverent Silence SB, what have you been siding out? for the 7 lands + 4 needles/silences, I've been taking out 4 Thugs and 4 Street Wraith + whatever feels good at the time. Is there some sweet sb tech I've been missing, or what?
9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] Another Ichorid Piece on: May 03, 2007, 07:54:50 am
Gotta say - love the deck, it feels much more resilient than Steve's. LOVE the Dryad Arbor tech even without testing, that's gonna go in for some more playtesting immediately.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] Another Ichorid Piece on: May 02, 2007, 11:19:00 pm
Prays for Leyline and sides in his enchant hate I guess, depending on whether he thinks they play Leyline sb as well.
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Premium Article] The Ichorid Blitz on: May 02, 2007, 01:23:43 am
Can this deck play around planar void? All the plays I can see fail because it's all at sorcery speed (Cabal therapy etc.)

Another reason for my to get off my ass and get SCG Premium. I'm sure you address this in your article, but why did you not go for the more comboesque versions floating around in the forums which had the dude who gave your guys +1+1 and haste? They had a pretty consistent turn 2 win with disruption.
13  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Almost an anouncement by Wizards on: April 27, 2007, 12:14:57 am
We were allowed to do this in the prerelease, and I did see it used. Not sure that I like the idea of anything to help my opponent to remember Pact of Negation Razz but it's a good move by Wizards.
14  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Mana drain; is it needed in LandStill??? on: April 18, 2007, 08:24:59 am
Off the top of my head, FoF is awesome draw, almost unbeatable. Twincast seems very meh, but don't take my word for it.
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Mana drain; is it needed in LandStill??? on: April 17, 2007, 10:33:27 pm
In regards to the decklist, usually before a deck is posted you need to do a bit of a writeup on what the deck wants to do, how it's played, good/bad matchups. You can't just post a decklist and expect it to be fixed for you, we need a little more than that. The decklist looks to me like it's screaming for drains - yo're running 4 Nev's Disk and just lands to cast it? Just coming from someone who likes control decks, but I've never played Landstill before.
16  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Angry Hermit MkII on: April 17, 2007, 08:37:03 pm
I'm assuming you're replacing the Oaths with Hermit, because oathing up a Narcomoeba isn't what I had in mind Wink. That said, I think this deck needs to be faster than an oath shell, playing ESG etc. to try for that first turn hermit with counter backup.
17  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Angry Hermit MkII on: April 17, 2007, 07:24:01 pm
Regarding Street Wraith - I love it! It's a great pick for this deck, perhaps more so than even ichorid or other similar decks. They are exactly what I meant when I talked about needing better solutions. Sundering is a great reanimation target - possible better than ghoul in the control match, because you can destroy their manabase so that even if they do topdeck a solution, you have a 3 (2+current turn) clock against them. I think that 4 Narcomoeba is a must, merely because it allows for that extra discard from Cabal Therapy and is totally worth the slots.I'm questioning the choice of Bazaars - they're clunky, and while they help you dig you could spend that mana from the land to actually tutor for Hermit, or cast a discard spell. Are they really needed? Sure, you have a discard outlet in bazaar and all, but what you can often do is activate hermit then flashback therapy targeting yourself. The deck does look like it's heading in the direction of UGB, because the synergy between Force and stuff like Narcomoeba is readily apparent, and the manabase is already about as vulnerable to wasteland as a deck can be. Anyway, the deck looks like it could be a strong contender, even if it isn't as fast as Ichorid or as resilient as Gifts. Sorry for the rambling and disjointed post.
18  Eternal Formats / Creative / Angry Hermit MkII on: April 17, 2007, 06:27:43 am
Ok, this deck is based on an old idea - use hermit to dump all your cards into your graveyard, then reanimate a fatty. In this case, you use a new card called Narcomoeba, which gets put into play from your library when it would be put into your graveyard to sacrifice for Dread Return, returning Sutured Ghoul and swinging with Dragon Breath on it for the win. Instead of going with blue, I decided to be proactive and pack a black disruption suite.

The decklist would play a fair few mana sources, because you want to at least hit your first 3 land drops. This would suggest 16 land (8 fetches, bayou and maybe City of Brass), plus SoLoMoxen, Crypt and Petal. Then you'd have the black disruption package (Duress, Therapy and Unmask). The combo takes up 16 slots, although Hermit is the combo in itself:
4 Hermit (Living wish is an option)
4 Narcomoeba
2 Sutured Ghoul
2 Dragon's Breath
2 Dread Return
2 Krosan Cloudscraper (There HAS to be a better option than this)
This leaves you with a few slots to round out the decklist (Tutors etc)
This pseudo-decklist is extremely rough, and I can't test it besides goldfishing (which I've done), because no-one on MWS has a patch for the newest set. That said, if anyone wants to test with me, hit me up. All comments are appreciated, because as I said it's a rough decklist and can't really be refined a huge amount without playing against a real opponent.

I realise that there is very little to flesh this decklist out, but basically I was hoping that people would help me build the deck, rather than critique a deck that I've already built and tested to the nth degree.

EDIT: I've just realised that this could be built in a G/U shell, with counters and better card draw. You could still play 2 Cabal Therapys purely for the flashback, but I'd be interested in opinions on which one would be better.
19  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] Time Grunt on: April 16, 2007, 07:51:33 pm
Haha, I was thinking about that last night as well. I think it would be best served as a purely B/G deck packing a full disruption package - Duress, Therapy, Unmask and maybe even Hymn. Anyway, this isn't a thread for discussing the uses of hermit druid, so let's get it back on track.
20  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] Time Grunt on: April 16, 2007, 08:49:30 am
Done a couple of games, and I just couldn't get over the horrible manabase. Perhaps I'm not playing it correctly, but I'm going balls to the wall for the combo and it just isn't working for me. Every match I lost (admittedly only 5 or 6) was because somehow my manabase crapped out on me. For a start, is there a better card than grunt for this deck? Cutting white would make it 100x easier for this deck to work.
EDIT: With the two main combo pieces of this deck being creatures, why would we not play living wish? I'm leaning towards a mainly blue deck (tundras and trops) splashing for the main combo pieces. Black doesn't help an already atrocious manabase Razz
21  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] Time Bazaar on: April 15, 2007, 07:13:55 pm
Post it, the deck sounds like a blast to play! On another note, Wouldn't grave-troll be better than thug? I know you mention that you use it to sac to cabal therapy, but I'd imagine that (without actually testing the deck, so I don't know how often you're saccing it) 2 more cards dredged each turn allows you to combo much more reliably. Just a first impression!

Ok, thanks guys - I appreciate the help with a question I should have known the answer to already. Thanks!
23  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Stupid question. on: April 15, 2007, 08:50:26 am
Doh. Ok, WoG was a bad choice. How about something that just kills all the squirrels? Basically what I was asking was whether all the deaths were put on the stack at the same time, or if I could respond to each one resolving or something.
24  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Goblin Sharpshooter Trigger Question on: April 15, 2007, 08:05:09 am
Take a given game:
My opponent has 100 2/2 squirrel tokens in play (for example). My board consists of a Goblin Sharpshooter. A Wrath is played, is there any way I can get a trigger off all the squirrels, ie. pinging my opponent to death? If so, does it matter who played the WoG?
Thanks for helping.

EDIT: Fixed Title -Z

Quick question - if you could go back and change the Extirpates now, would you? If so, what would you change them for. Despite the dismal showing, they still look good on paper.
26  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck] Necromancer - my second deck build on: March 08, 2005, 05:29:12 am
I don't know whether someone said this yet, but FOW is RFG, not to your Graveyard - you can't pitch it to creatures.

Hrm... Perhaps also in a metagame Parfait might be a viable hate deck, and I think my Suicide Black deck will be making a showing at a tournament or two Wink

29  Eternal Formats / Creative / [discussion] Food Chain Goblins on: February 22, 2005, 05:45:01 pm
How is Emerald Charm tech? IMO Naturalise is better, as you can side it in against Stax etc. Have you considered adding blue into the sideboard for those problematic combo matchups? Pitch counters (FOW, Misd) might even it up a little in our favour.
30  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / I don't understand... on: February 17, 2005, 05:18:48 am
When you are holding intuition, surely is it perfectly ok to have 2 AK's in your hand because you can Intuition for AK/AK/Strip Mine (Insert whatever you want here) and they will have a tough decision which still leaves you really high in card advantage. Whats the big deal with that?
