Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: BUG Fish - Innovating Null Rod strategies in Vintage

some random observations
BUG fish is probably best in a meta where you don't have a prevalence of random aggro in a goyf mirror you're going to bang heads with other goyfs, who MAY have darkblast or jitte to kill your own goyfs if any good aggro is in the meta, you can be sure people are prepared to deal with creatures looking at your decklist, you have no maindeck solution for threats other than echoing truth, which you're going to waste one tutor for you don't have jitte main to get rid of random creatures, welders would just play you all day, even with null rod, they're just going to recur their robots 5 artifact mana and 4 null rods seem pretty painful to me 8/12 creatures dying to darkblast, and no pump to save them with 6 fetches, 4 wastes and 1 strip, you also run the risk of getting mana denied/colour screwed from stifles/wastes, and you run only 23 total magus of the moon, blood moon will laugh at your mana base because you have no islands
what's the meta over at your parts? (house, etc) good thing about this though, it probably rapes most combo/control-combo decks

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Tezzeret (Shards of Alarar card, quite interesting)

have you guys not checked out the oracle text on time vault?
If Time Vault would become untapped, instead choose one - untap Time Vault and you skip your next turn; or Time Vault remains tapped.
if you try to untap it using tezzeret, you'll still have to skip the turn, or it does nothing frankly, i think time vault is still best abused with transreliquat
but MAN, this goes into CS on day 1

can avoid fate counter instants that target MORE than one permanent which you control? the oracle text says A PERMANENT, and i'm not sure if that means ANY, or ONE

Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck Discussion] Jester's Cap Combo, is it viable?

Yes, I understand that ppl in the newbie forums can give me good advice, but maybe I want advice from the people who NEVER even dare think about looking in the newbie forums, who have won 10 GP and Waterbury and stuff, those are the people I would like advice from, nothing against n00bs, just want advice from people that I "know" are good, see? And that pisses me off. just, what is your freaking problem? go see a psychiatrist to work out your issues

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / taking back plays
|
on: January 09, 2005, 12:34:24 pm
|
|
this might sound like sloppy play, but here goes if you announced a spell, and have tapped your lands for mana, AND shown the card, but you realise it will be a very bad play, can you or can you not backup to announcement without penalty and do something else with the mana?
what about the same situation, but you have not tapped your lands for mana?
what penalties would be involved under the different RELs?
thanks in advance

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Goblin Bombardment vs Oath

just to clarify a little the oath player will give you a token at eot to try to activate oath the next turn you can fling it at him eot, or you can fling it at him in response to the oath trigger if you're really sneaky and have a huge creature in your deck, you can fling it AFTER he oaths in order to get your own creature out

you are 99% wrong here trinisphere doesn't care what the cmc is it just looks at what you pay and if it's more than 3, trinisphere just does nothing as buyback on pulse is 4R, trinisphere does nothing to it

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Mindslaver Stacking
|
on: December 15, 2004, 01:37:13 pm
|

why would it die upon announcement? it hasn't even resolved yet it works for tolarian because you can't respond to a land drop, but mindslaver, yes, because the mindslaver can be popped in response to the actual playing of another mindslaver

this kangeroo court finds in favour of jdizzle the first guy to pick up my deck without my permission will be picking his brains off the floor  it's true what if your opponent is a malicious, dirty, unwashed and smelly son of a bitch? do you REALLY want someone like that touching your cards? heck, i wouldn't even want to play someone like that thankfully i play t1, so people like that usually stick to their t2

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / SCG P9 III Report: 3rd Place With The Doomsday Device

Because I am the active player, I choose which replacement effect wins. I confirmed this with the judge before going for it and winning. is this right? i was of the impression that the AFFECTED player decides which replacement effect replaces the event, and should have nothing to do with the active player in a similar vein, what happens to dsc in a will turn?

Eternal Formats / Creative / Skullclamp in FCG?
|
on: October 24, 2004, 11:05:25 pm
|
|
matrons are recruiters and ringleaders 5 and 6 with food chain in play they fetch the missing combo link AND give you the mana you need to cast them clamp doesn't really work well in fcg you want your goblins alive killing off your goblins to draw cards is like rfging your piledrivers to cast prospectors

i'm not sure how experienced you are with stax, but there are 2 cards which i hate more than rack and ruin, and 1 of them is energy flux 1 welder saves ONE artifact and all your time and energy is spent on keeping your stuff alive i don't think you appreciate how difficult it is to keep your stuff on the table, with or without a welder in play i can see tnt, control slaver or 7/10 killing through the flux, but stax, no
and yes, if i am playing against stax i will go lotus -> flux if i can every single time remember, metalworker doesn't stop flux 100% you might think he's great for paying upkeep costs, but what flux is doing is basically nullifying the worker by forcing it to tap during upkeep if he can't go broken you have a MUCH easier game i have not played matches when i have an active worker on turn 2 and lost unless of course the opponent resolves flux on turn 1
