Play of the Day: Forcing the Oath player to give me my 4th spirit token. He casts Oath leaving Orchard open, I cast Daze. He opts to pay 1, I cast my 2nd Daze by returning an Island to my hand. He FoW, I misdirect. that was game. The best thing was his cry of utter disbelief. I just told him Ophidian rocks Stupidity counter: The Oath player trying to Echoing Truth my Morphling with 3 Islands open, while his friends are sitting next to him and watch. The play of the day, and the stupidity counter both concerned my teammate and friend Lée Towers. I Just wanted to say that it's people like you with remarks like these that make the game "not fun" for people who are new to the format. The fact that his friends were sitting next to him during the match is of no importance, for they can't mingle. I find the post kind of offensive, and insulting. Please keep in mind that other people read these forums too. Thanks in advance, Floris Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just amused by his reaction to my Misdirection (and by amused I mean, not in a negative way). It was a very recognizable reaction from him that I myself made many times, especially at the T1 nationals last year when someone just kept on out-countering me. It was a reaction of recognition as I knew what he was thinking/feeling. Morphling keeps getting underestimated most of the times. Players forget you can untap it for instance, or in his case, make it untargetable. The fact that he's a new player has something to do with it ofcourse, but reading the card first would be a good idea for someone who's a new player at tourneys. If my memory serves me correctly he didn't read it before he casted the Truth. Again, I too have made bad plays at tourneys when my friends were watching and sometimes they remember me of that. He told me he'd be in for that as well. It was all just for laughs. No matter, the bottomline comes down to this: I'm sorry if I offended anyone, I offer my apologies if I did. It wasn't meant the way you put it. He was a good guy and a nice opponent (the nicest all day) and we had a couple of laughs. I hope to meet him again sometime at a tourney. btw, you and the other guy (I remember there were 3 of you in total) were allrighty as well . Ah gosh, maybe I overreacted. I wasn't at the scene at the time, and just today, friends of mine took the time to clarify what happened. I'm sorry for that. So the situation was that after playing Echoing Truth on your morphling (with 3 blue open) and you making it untargetable,Léon said something like: i'm going to hear this for a long time. I didn't catch that from the post, and he was also so smart not to mention it to me in detail . We were with four in total: Floris (me playing slaver), Hans (playing workshop aggro/fish thingy), Léon (playing oath) and Guido (playing u/w fish). Too bad I don't have a visual on you by knowing your alias, your reaction clearly states that you're a really nice guy. Again sorry for taking things in the wrong way, hope to see you the next T1 tourney we go to, Greetz, Floris

The 3 games I did board them in (dragon, Bobbed Tendrils and Kobolds), i never saw them, which is a shame. They really could have been useful, and would have bought me enough time to set up my own plays, eventually taking yours

I guess it is pretty obvious, but my list should have a Mox Emerald in there instead of 2 Mox Pearl  . But I was looking at the T8 lists and realised something... here I am playing Null Rod against graveyard hate such as Tormod's Crypt and Phyrexian Furnace and let's look at the top 8 sideboards and mainboards. Total number of graveyard hate in mainboard; 2 Phyrexian Furnace Total number of graveyard hate in sideboard; 1 Coffin Purge 1 Tormod’s Crypt Okay, Daniel’s list wasn’t there. But from what I remember he wasn’t running any graveyard hate and he told me he didn’t board any in either. Is Tormod's Crypt a bit underplayed then? It is good against so many decks... I boarded in 3 Crypts vs. your Dragonbuild, but never saw any of them . 1-1 in matches... I'll see you next time! Greetz, Floris

Hi! Floris here (round 1). Glad to see you on TMD as well! The tourney went downhill for me after my win against you in the first round, losing to CS, Doomsday combo, tie against monoblue control and some random wins. 3-2-1 drop! The tourney sucked for me and the rest of team Assreep (with our team mascotte being a chocolate bar (Dutch humor?)). After dropping, we went out to Van der Valk Breukelen for a nice dinner, so the day ended well after all . Hope to play you in the future!

A nice factoid is also that we (Europeans) only make up about 3% of the world population. I used to think that Dutchville was just a small country in Europe. The above information really woke me up as to how insignificant we really are on a global level.
Furthermore I would like to state that the Netherlands do matter in their vote against the Eu Constition. I'm really disappointed by the statement that the opinions of Dutch individuals are irrelevant, seeing how we are not represented in a big number. You totally discount the fact that a statement was made, which counts heavily towards countries that are still in doubt on approving the constitution.

4 REB 2 Lava Dart 2 Rack and Ruin 1 Shattering Pulse 1 Viashino Heretic 1 Tormod’s Crypt 1 Sundering Titan 3 Waterfront Bouncer Hmm... The tournament has been a while back already... I think i chose this sideboard to throw the opponent off into thinking I was playing a transformational Slaverdeck. It worked, because Rudy owned me in the T8. Sensei, Sensei OBVIOUSLY has a good matchup against Slaver.

In my view the addition of Black would be more essential, giving you a very powerful first turn play with Duress and VT. Has anyone tested this? At this moment i lack the time to playtest, but the deck seems a real blast to play.

Seeing how so called tier one decks are dependant on first turns setup for the kill, how will you be spending your first turn (defending or setting up yourself)?
wouldn't the addition of Duress be valuable, having a first turn play that disrupts your opponent, so you can "last" until turn two and have mana drain backup, or FoW to support your gameplan? I realize this would be a big reorganisation for your manabase, but I really think it's a strong option.
Maybe a core of must-have cards can be created, so we can optimise the decklist further?

We've got the Collections / Trilogy's: - The Godfather 1,2,3 - LoTR 1,2,3, - Alien 1,2,3,4 - Predator 1,2 - Cube 1 and 2: Hypercube (BRILLIANT, especially the first one)
Singles: - Lost in Translation (my favorite) - Groundhog Day - Sophie's Choice - Philadelphia - Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail - American Beaty (Kevin Spacey rulez) - Festen (Danish I believe)
Manga: - Akira (Ofcorze) - Spirited Away (This one is REALLY good)
I really love the way Bill Murray and Scarlet Johansson communicate and act in Lost in Translation. The setting and camerawork are just amazing.. The soundtrack is really great... A must-see!
Further I guess i really like the humorously depressed style of acting by Bill Murray or Kevin Spacey, with the first one being the best in that.

Mana Drain + Bazaar seems like they would interfere with each other. You have to choose between getting your draw engine and your counters online. Have you considered replacing the Drains with Circular Logics? Considering that, you could also argue about LOA being subpar in this deck. With the exception of having Squees in you GY, Bazaar is carddisadvantage. It not being blue also doesn't help. I'd cut it for either another land, or a TFK Circular Logic seems like a good replacement for Mana Drain indeed. P.S. Hugo, is that why you need my bazaars ?

A blue stater surrounded by red states I'm mildly amused by the mention of so called "red states" by residents of the U.S. of A., looking at it in a communist kind of way (or Indian, but that wouldn't be as funny). Having lived in the U.S. myself, I can picture how voters voted the way they did. Being constantly "bombarded" by pro-bush propaganda, choices against Bush take a lot more thought to support arguements. It's like fighting an uphill battle Being "blue" in the U.S. (OMG i'm so funny) is really something to be proud of (if you can support you choice afcourse). It confirms being able to think independently, even when being "criticized" by the propaganda that's surrounding you.

Hey Dudette, correct me if i'm wrong... So the pecking on cheeks thing isn't a French custom??? Where have i been going on vacation the last X years? And Toad kissing other men is NOT gay... It's trendy Just wait a couple of years, for it will catch up to the women kissing women real soon... Saying this, you might want to reconsider?

Reading this thread has gotten me really excited  The mention of France and nude beaches being hot is so overrated. All the nude beaches I see (both in Dutchieville and in France) are filled with old tarts with tits hanging down to their ankles and old men with ballsacks that do the same. Not my idea of hot...
Further i'd like to mention that French cuisine is really good, and so is French kissing. I wonder where the "French" in French kissing comes from, assuming the "French kissing" I know is that when two people that know each other in France meet (gender doesn't apply) they give each other a peck on the cheek. Obviously, there is no tongue-action involved.
Summarized: - Old people are NOT hot - Toad kisses men - Britanny 'pecks' other women (which is, having seen Britanny, very hot)

Have you tested Misdirection yet? It seems like a very good addition as a psuedo - counter and worked well for me during testing. I also used my Cunning Wish in the MD to wish for Snuff Out. The Mana Leak and Daze configuration sounds very appealing to me, although i have more affection with Mana Leak accompanied with Misdirection. Misdirecting a Bolt to protect your Quirion Dryad is really nice. Also, Misdirecting an Ancestral is a real blow in the face for your opponent.

Maybe a little nitpicky, but very important to me. I HATE going to a magic tournament that smells of Magicplayers. The sweaty stench is horrific. I think the problem with magicplayers who smell is about clean clothes, not necessarily about having showered up, because nothing smells more than clothes (about a day or 2 old) that have been sweat on repeatedly.
Concerning problems with taking back plays, I usually let them, if we are on friendly terms. Some people will just be bitches by intimidating, whining and such. I usually ask those players why they are being the bitch they are in a reflective way. It helps alot actually.
Of all stuff important, i think being prepared is most important. Prepare: deck, 2 decklists, dice, notepad, pen, drinks and food. Get a good nights sleep. If you sleep well, good manners and a smile will come automatically.

It wasn't my intention to sound negative about your deck, and i believe in your playtestingresults. The comment on the deck comes from what you said in the article actually... You say "tough" matchups are Workshop control, all combodecks and (possibly) psychatog and 4cc. That's a lot of 50/50 or less matchups to face, and a lot of specific cards you will face that give you trouble. First, I would really like to know how you sideboard in against some of your "tougher" matchups, or sideboard in general with the deck (concerning the Oath combo)? Second, I would like to know how your Platinum Angel has worked for you as a sideboard option?
Greetz,
Floris

Although i like the list, i don't think it's viable in today's meta, because MD hate is around for you everywhere.
Pernicious Deed resolved is game. StP is killing Welder shuts you down even after SB. Chalice for 2 makes you die, even after SB. The fact that Plat. Angel is an artifact also makes it weaker as an sideboarding option, because you side out you Mask/Nought combo because your arti's are hated (i assume).
I don't want to sound very negative, but today's meta is why i sold my Mask/nought combo a couple of months ago. Depending on 1x Cunning Wish to get you out of shitty situations is not going to cut it. At least up the CW count by 1 or 2, and add some MD removal / bounce. If it works for you, stay with it. On paper it just doesn't look like a good call to me.
