1  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [issue] are tournament prizes out of control? on: September 28, 2004, 08:02:34 am
I dont know how people are thinking over there but a power card for the first place BB sol rings and such for the T8 should be enough. No one can seriously go to a 100ppl tournament with the only thought in his head is coming T8 and get power. 8ppl care about if the T8 power while a hundred care about if the entry fee is $15 or $30. I think most people are going to tournaments to have a great time and meet similar people and share thoughts, not to win $300 prices. A power card is enough exciting that people could go to the tournament for the chance of winning a single power.
I dont think people care a lot if its 1 or 8 power cards because that would theoretically be 8 times as expensive to enter. If you want to win a big amount of money you should Play Grand prix and PT:s. making money on T1 is hard because its not the most common format. T2 for example is much more popular format and have more money prices so if youre going to a tournament to win money or very nice card prices T2 is probably a better format.

And as everyone knows most diffrent thing between T1 and T2 players is that T1 players buy good cards for the money.  Very Happy

I must agree with you and add that i think DoJ would be  a great choice for the deck at least in small numbers. I think this because its cycling and with that its hard to couter. what i know its just fish who can counter the cycle with stifle maindecked.

Is it just me or is this deck begging for a crucible? Or at least a couple in the board?

It fits the mana curve, you're running 5 strips + fetches, and you have lots of acceleration. If you want to improve your game against control, here's how. I would like to think that they'd do better on the whole than chains of meph because A) chains shuts down YOUR draw as well and B) with disks and vindicates floating around, you can essentially get rid of ALL his mana sources (moxes, basics, etc.)

I like the idea, keep working at it... just trying to give some input.

I think this deck was designed to beat the MUD decks and fish are'nt just beating it up ( no deck does ). But this deck might have a better chance? what do i know of that? but i guess that adding green to fish is just adding oxidize against MUD decks and then RAR is better because it dont give a instablie manabase. Green was basically added to fish to have a good mirror?

combo and slaver are your worst matchup? since when? maybe if this list didn't suck it could win vs those two decks.

fish's worst matchups are infact dragon and anything with fast medium sized creatures (3/3+).

you want to know how to fix the deck? you can do a number of things.

1) Learn to play it well, play hundreds of games vs all archtypes vs GOOD players.

2) Play a good list.

3) Know when to play fish and when not to play fish.

2) Add green

Waiiit a second here you may play it this TURN if i've got the wording right drawing a lotus/mox/mana crypt give infinite mana? Is'nt that a little too good?

[EDIT] Got confused by the wording. There was nothing that says of a copy. sry.

Ok, what i've understood u have a pretty good matchup against MUD decks. I dont know what ure going to sideboard energy flux against so i suggest ( against TPS he wont hav another upkeep if the flux would be a threat to him Smile ) Chalice could help you more against more matchups than flux would.

I agree that triskelion is better than fire // ice and also 2 tangle wire in main helps you up against many decks. I also have to agree that he must have had a rarely explosive start for a control deck to manage to drop a B2B.

Those were all good suggestions.  I personally would also suggest Triskelion over Fire/Ice.  True he cannot tap a Winter Orb EOT, but against fish or other weenie decks you fear, he OWNS.  Either you have a 4/4 beatstick or you kill three of their critters, then weld him inot something or weld him back into play.  Recurable bolts are some good I here vs. the mirror/fish/weenie.  My 2 cents.  Good luck.
7  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [New tech?] Gems from the junk bin presents: Mana Web on: September 15, 2004, 10:05:00 am
I dont think it's very useful beacause it dont help you against so many decks. I can think about two or three decks it really help against. The problem is that not to many decks run mana drains ( compared to how many that actually dont run it ) and both fish and GAT run countrips.

Maybe I'm missing something here ruleswise, but can't the opponent just float a bunch of mana then cast as many spells as he wants? Outside of a little burn if the opponent screws up, this is just forcing the opponent to choose to cast stuff eot or main phase, not both right? I guess that makes phids a good bit worse but I'm going to want a lot more from my hosers at the 3 mana slot. Especially when they can just drop it off some drain mana and a mox without slowing down.
8  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Report+Deck] Team GRO's BBC takes 5th at Waterbury on: September 14, 2004, 12:13:51 pm
Congratulations for the 5th place.
It was a great report also.

I dont think any serious tournament organizer is going to stop you from cutting your opponents deck. Do you think so?

Quote from: MoreFling
@luke: this tournament (Waterbury) was unsanctioned. Different standards could apply.

I think this card might be playable in GAT but its not good enough for Mono U. In GAT it pumps the dryad and might be a alternative to merchant scroll though you are not sure to get your ancestral its also useable to fing a Time Walk but it seems like a gamble to me.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Shoot first, ask questions later [Deck] Landstill Revisited on: September 14, 2004, 11:27:42 am
I think one misdirection in maindeck might be an option because you've got many cards to pitch to it and it's really good against some matchups and in a competive meta many decks should be running a lot of counters and ancestrals. But hoping to misdirect a ancestral is maybe a little to much hoping.  Very Happy
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [deck] Crushing Chamber-Mono Brown aggro on: September 14, 2004, 11:13:56 am
Blinkmoth Nexus?
I think this might be an option beacause:
-It stores counters
-You can beat your opponent with a flying creature that he will not likely be able to block. ( Extremly powerful if you're storing counters on it )
-Pump plating
-Build affinity
-Chump block when crucible is in play

Last three was ripped from somewhere  Wink

Goblin Welder:

I think the deck would get much more powerful if you added four goblin welder. You could weld up a myr enforcer or somthing and it would buy some defense against artifact removal. It also increases the number of counters on the crusher. Also with fish's increasing popularity I think that all fish players not maindecking 2 Fire // Ice ( Im Maindecking them myself ) will have a pretty hard time getting rid of the welder if they're not topdecking grim lavamancer. When null rod is in play you dont have much use for 2-3 moxes but you will have the better use of your dead enforcer. ( If you have one ) The consequence is that you have to add red mana.

Grim monolith:

-This one just give you more mana and works if you want to waste the power in it weld it up and down from your graveyard. ( not to likely )
-I don't know what to pick out of the deck but i think it might work.

Tsabo's web: (SB)

- Good sideboard option against U/R Fish and the deck that has increased in popularity slighly Landstill.

That's the things i wanted to mention that could improve your deck.

Thanks for a affinity deck that possibly is really fun to play?
