Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / You gotta have white

Yeah I play fish all the time. I still do decent (top 4 ing) but not with any old fish build. You can' t go straight gay/r anymore. The big men and oath beasts realy hose you as does tinker and any thing with crucible. So what do you do? Add white. It has to be done. Meddling mage on first turn for oath is house. They are pretty much screwed with out counters. Plus you get swords. yes giving them 11 extra life sucks, but it isn't like you were gonna win that quick any way. Plus. it's better than losing...
here is my list.
4 spiketail hatchling 4cloud of faeries 4 grim man 3 meddling mage
4 standstill 4 force of will 4 curiosity 1 time walk 1 anscetral recall 2 daze 3 stp 3 null rod
1 mox pearl 1mox sapphire 4 turndra 3volcanic island 1 island 1 plains 4 mishras factory 3 wasteland 1 strip mine 3 flooded strand 2 polluted delta
you have good match ups vs oath now, but first turn oath is still a kick in the sack. then you have to rely on stp for the win. plsu the oath first turn mage is good. just dont name the wrong thing. as we know, fish has it tough, but this deck helps.
the board is in constant flux depending on scouting pre-toruney. there is always plenty of stifles and seals of cleansing/ annuls, depending on your move. then the other stp, tormods, rack and ruin and rebs for other slots.
example 3seal of cleansing 3 stile 3 reb 1 stp 3rack and ruin 2 tormods crypt

Bob that was a hilarious deck name! It was the first time i ever laughed till I pooped. I would be angry usually, but it wasn't my underwear, so good work!
This is Sam the One and only fish player. This tourney was gnarly, again. Congrats to the bearded guy for winning. My report would be boring because i made the top 8 at 2-0-3. Woo! I drew with the MOST random aggro deck that should have annihalated me. It should have killed me deader than Rick James (...too soon?) but didn't. He had g/r zoo with Stifle and Sylvan Library and Force of Will. Just wacky. We drew, even though i could have won if I were better at this game... but I'm not. Then I beat 7/10 like the wee girl it is. Then I drew with Matt "I've got" Wood (... yeah, I went there) even after he had infinite Crucible/ Mindslaver/ industrictible land of DOOM combo. Saved by the bell, but not in a gay Screech goes in drag to prom with Slater to impress Kelly and embarrass Zach kind of way. More of a Principal Belding calls a snow day on a 90 degree weather day so he can make his golf game with Mr. T kind of way. Yeah, Mr. T. Then I beat bad Belcher with Tendrils(?) and got my ass kic... uh, me and Oath drew in the 5th. I got in at 8 and conceded to Kalan, my teammate/lovable fat kid in training-mate. He lost due to horrible play on his part to eventual champ, Beardy Magoo. Great tourney, looking forward to Castle Rock.
SLOPS: driving to LONGMONT! Ryan, for canceling on us do to "grades". We all know you were caught hooking again. Just have the balls to tell us next time, Jezebel. Clay, for buying me Copenhagen snuff. Who knew eating tobacco would be so easy...
PROPS: The CAstle Rock Chronic Cruisers (eh, new team name, eh...), for making the drive just like we did and organizing the next tourney. But honestly, beta Beserk? If I wanted $40, I'd put Clay's ass back on the street. Jim, for explaing bukakke to Bob and loaning me cards. Matt, for helping me understand the bracket and how to ID. Bob, for IDing with me and not unleashing the beast on the poor bathrooom. I don't think the paint would hav emade it this time. I think I heard it cry last time. Not loudly, but an audible wimper. EVERYONE, for coming. Adam, for not letting the 12 year old age limit on Halloween costumes that don't look weird rule stop you from dressing up. You let your love of fourteenth century pants be known! Bob's head, for not drawing the sun into it's orbit and destroying life as we know it. (the thing is massive, like Roseanne on stilts)
PS: if anyone wants to come together and form team Bukkake, PM me....
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Now it's time for Sam's "You pretty much had to be there" JOKE OF THE TOURNAMENT! Knock, knock Who's there? Boo Boo who? BOOOOKAKKKKEEEEEEEEEE!
Good times... [/i]

My computer died when i clicked on post during my last post here, so if the previous diatribe didn't make it, I'll re-do it. STP is good against huge artifact men and Welders. Naming oath or tinker or welder on a Medlling mage is awesome. It needs more game agianst oath, but all fish decks do. I like it. I need help with the board. Awesome!

Hey, this thread is frigging awesome! All the talk of fish reminds me of my childhood. We grew up poor, Daddy was a longshoreman, working on the docks for an honest days pay. Momma was dead.
Here is a new idea that has been discussed but never actualized. It's WtWTF (Worse than Worse than Fish...) It runs the Gay/r skeleton, but instead of adding green it adds white for main deck Swords to Plowshares and Meddling mage. The mages are so good right now. I know, they can't be Curious, but in the current meda of Oath and Goblin Welders, there are so many spells that have to be played to win. Name tinker or Oath of Druids, anything that is big at the moment. STP is your new friend for HUGE FREAKING ARTIFACT MEN AKA THE BAIN OF FISH! It kills Colossi, Sundering Titans, Akroma's, Spirits of the Nights and Welders deader than Rick James (...too soon?) BITCH!
I placed in a decent tourney this past Saturday the 30. All established decks and good players. There were 5 Oath decks, one in the T8. I made the T8 and conceided to my buddy the Belcher player, mostly because I have no game against that Oath player that was in the future. Here's the list. I will post a tourney report later around here. Please give some input, mostly on a better sideboard.
FISH 4 LIFE - unless your Rick James, becuase you're dead...BITCH

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Vandals
|
on: October 19, 2004, 08:36:31 pm

I've been playing gay/r for a long time and i think that goblin vandals don't fir well. You are always making conclave into a man or tapping out at end of turn with lavaman, you don't have the mana for a the one red a turn. They are only better if you're playing against welder, and they can block in most cases. Why not pay the one to kill a mox and stilll deal one damage with your mox monkey? Makes more sense to me.
Also, i know you Italians have a good u/w fish build with meddling mage. I would love the list for it or and u/w list. Maybe a link to a list on the mana drain?
thanks

Well look at our little community! This is just grand!
The cost thing is great. People would pay to play, no matter the extra proxying cost. The store might as well make a little money off it.
Is it my understanding that the tournament will be held, followed by much drunken Halloween antics or is that out. Because we are always up for drunken Halloween antics. Maybe I'll have a chance to make out with Bob's mom. Again.
WE'LL BE THERE.
TEAM DOUG.
PS: Don't worry Bob. I'll let you watch.

That sounds awesome. We have a pretty big crew, about five dudes. We play at Collectormania in Parker, they loan us cards when we need them. We can all come to Castle Rock. I've been to that place you test at. Great comics. PM me fo more info. We got a great Fish deck and the Belcher. Our Food Chain Goblins build is pretty solid as well. We don't have all the cards but we have some skill and a great ability to proxy. Plus, we're damn handsome. And the paternity test was bad beats but I cast Flight of Stairs and countered the Pregnancy spell. Keep in touch.

-ryan "fluffer" jansekok Your definetly not the fluffer, although you're prettier than Kalan. What do you think about the rivalry with Freek-a-leek? We could definetly take them. It would just depend on where they want to go and if they let us get to second base or not... It beats the hell out of going up against Serge. To the Freeks, are youo going to Chicago for real? We've been talking about it and it could be cool. Castle Rockers, where do you usually play? We should play test sometime, seeeing how you guys have cards and what not.

Amen to that. God I dropped a huge dookie after eating that pizza. Sam and Ryan can back me up on this.
It was a huge deuce. We did literally back up. We rock-paper-scissors'd for the girls bathroom. Definetly my worst beat ever... This smell peeled the paint. I don't know how such a horrible, angry smell could come out of a small, asian man... As for the team rivalry,... Word to your mothers!
Keep us informed about the Colorado T1 scene. It's gotta explode sometime, but unlike the latin explosion, becuase that sucked. She Bangs, Sam

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Team Doug Musser's Big Showing
|
on: September 13, 2004, 03:45:13 pm

This is Sam the fish player (second going in to t8). Freek-a-Leek may have won the day but team Doug Musser took 3 of the other spots (Clay with Shitty Belcher aka SHELCHER and Ryan with not even his own Madness deck aka NADNESS). Awesome! We came all the way from Elizabeth (anyone from Elizabeth shouold post and say what's up). Putting E-Town on the map! Thanks to everyone that showed up for the great tournament. Play fish with more Crucibles if you want to win more. Bob you should post that WTF decklist if possible.
PROPS: All opponents: Type 1 is so much more laid back than T2. We should learn from their mysterious ways. Cool Guy Chris: This dude totally let Clay borrow random POWER that he needed and gave Ryan a powered Madness deck, even though he never met us before!. Guys like you are a Yahtzee for us poor T1 players. Sorry WTF didn't work out... Orange Shirt Jim: For telling Ryan what a Fluffer was. Funny Hat Matt: The Dragon dude I played in the T8. Thanks for letting me get the whole Stifle play right. Daze is a beast. Stonebridge Games: Great tourney. We''ll be back for more. Also thanks to the old hippy dude behind the counter for the great Animal House references. Bob: Way to not let Down Syndrome get you down little buddy.
SLOPS: The Crappy Pizza Place Next Door: Your laxative riddled pizza made the one and a half hour car ride home both smelly and embarrassing. God work.
