1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Decks that could find a niche in the current meta on: November 01, 2004, 01:24:22 am
mono blue really isn;'t even a good example.  It was unexpected at first.  now it's subpar at best.
2  Eternal Formats / Creative / A look at a deck.. on: October 29, 2004, 11:37:12 am
your deck will never win a big type 1 tournament with a semi-advanced metagame.  you might be able to beat some child who still thinks his 5th turn thorn elemental off a couple llanowar elves is savage tech, but anything in the metagame will tear you apart.

you might get lucky on food chains, since it's not blue.  But this deck looses to tons of things:

Trinishpere
chalice
Mana drain
force of will
daze!

that's just to name a couple.

the funny thing about that deck is it is like a weaker version of klampbolds.dec with even MORE losses.

Tremor anyone?
3  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Discussion] Big Events: Changing the Way You Play Magic? on: October 28, 2004, 07:42:05 pm
For me personally, the well covered events (gen and scg1 and 2, waterbury, hadley) show me what decks are threats.  I love moreso how everyone writes reports.  Most people play decks just like that report.  For instance, one of the milwaukee kids is running "Cerebral assassin" JUST like eastman's report.  It makes it easier ot prepair.  at the same time, i am always trying to find random things that people wouldn't expect to break certain decks.

the only time the 'big coverage' events really effect me is, for instance, right now, when Team Dark Horse is prepairing to tear Team charlie-in-a-box a new a-hole in chicago.
4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Metagame Shifts: Debating the Future of Fish on: October 28, 2004, 07:09:19 pm
one thing that really wrecks face against fish would definitely be DarkSteel Colossus.  another fun one would be 7/10.  First turn tinker into one of those is just like saying "die fishy die".

it's like throwing a grenade in a fish tank.

I honestly don't see fish really dying in the meta.  I just see it being very weaker.   If you look at it, they could do two things to stop Oath.  Annul's mainboard, and then up the maze of ith count.   Leonin bola is a card that is rather cheap that could actually dominate against oath, and it's a card that isn't expected.

there are many other options available just to hose oath, but the fact still remains that fish will die.

maybe fish will become landstill?
6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / doodling on your cards on: October 27, 2004, 02:06:44 am

the sol ring is my prize of art.  my last name is spelled soly---  so i just added a y and it's my custom soly ring.
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Skullclamp in FCG? on: October 26, 2004, 11:15:48 am
i have heard very little good arguments for OR against skullclamp yet.  So i guess i will have to give this my try.

FCG is a VERY tight build.   it has no room for clamps.  You cannot sacrafice the clamped goblins to the chain, so the only goblins that would benifit with this would be the /1 goblins.   If you look at the list, every single goblin serves it's purpose.  In playing FCG, skirk prospector has allowed me to 'mini-combo', winning almost as much times as food chains.  i have lost several games where the prospecter gets killed.  So that's one you just shouldn't clamp.   Lackey?  of course you shouldn't clamp that guy unless they have a blocker that they can afford to lose or that's --/2 (+) in toughness.  Matron, okay, you can clamp matron after she's in play, but the fact of the matter is you took her out of your list to add the clamp.  recruiter.  that's  one you can clamp.   that makes one worthwhile goblin you can clamp.  you can clamp a fanatic if you do so desire, but it's a better utility to do damage.  sharpshooter, i've killed with him several dozen times too.  Another bad idea.  That makes 2 total.

matron is the BOMB in food chains.  The thing people have been saying is that food chains combos and that clamp makes it easier.  you people are the ones who probobly go 0-2 drop because you have an amazing aggro beatdown going but you rely to heavily on the actual combo.

Normally in a good metagame, or even a subpar ones like the milwaukee/Eau Claire metas you will be sideboarding out food chains for more practical things after game 1.

the great thing about food chain is it's AGGROCOMBO.  the problem with some of the people i've seen playing food chain is that they play it COMBOAGGRO.   that means they play combo before playing aggro.  That's the downfall of Food chain goblins.

Clamp is pointless in FCG.  enough said.
