Hurkyl's Recall plz reprint. I'd love to be able to play Burning Long, but I'm not super keen on dropping $150 on a playset of Hurkyl's, of all things! Completely agree. I'm an MTGO newbie, so it's super weird to open a Library of Alexandria, thinking "Oh sweet!", only to look the card up and see it's worth just a few tickets…

I somewhat regret selling my Geists with this new change. I was planning on waiting until they had rotated out of Standard and picking them back up on the cheap. With these new rules (plus Modern, etc.), I'm unsure as to how much Geist may fall in price once it's no longer Standard-legal.
Then there's my playset of foil (& artist signed) Gaea's Cradle that I'd sold off several months ago… but I made so much value on them already, I'm happy. (I bought the playset for $90 back in 2009…)

I'll tell you exactly what's holding attendance back...there are so many events in the NJ PA NY area we can literally play in a power event every single weekend of a month. So many stores and so many TO's so attendance gets watered down among them because people can chose which event suites their schedule. Where as a few years ago if you wanted to play vintage it was once a month and you made sure you changed your plans to get out and play vintage. The scene is watered down bc too many events/TO's. Completely agree. I think it's a great problem to have — I typically go to three events each month (Bloomsburg, Lancaster, Westmont). I love it, but I also recognize that with more events, there is a segment of players that get a bit more choosy about which events they attend. With so many Vintage events a month, they have the luxury to be choosy. (With the choosers also comes, of course, the diehards, who are at every event regardless. ) There are also Vintage players who are invested in other formats, as well. Some weekends have another great, non-Vintage tournament the same day a Vintage tournament is. Can't really help that. The northeast just has a ton of great events in general.

I was thinking along the lines of grabbing a Balance, Pyroclasm, Supreme Verdict or other board sweeper held in hand until the right moment for maximum impact. Also, I was thinking of Grixis where you could open with Cavern, Hierarch and play this turn 2 to preempt a Tinker, tutor, Bolt, or Time Walk. Then you know how to sequence your next plays with the information gained. An uncounterable Duress is obnoxious. And anything that can get you 2 for 1 is worth looking at closely. Good points. (I was being mostly facetious with that line, after our match Saturday. ) It's not quite Duress (can't grab Jace, can't grab EE), but, as you say, the information gained is worthwhile. I'm not familiar enough with the archetype, so I wonder: what do you think could be cut in order to fit this?
