UPDATE:
Correction to the winner of Waterbury Bingo.
It was pointed out to me that the thread says the tiebreaker will be the relative position of the correct guesses WITHIN the top 16. For that reason, the winner came down to Mr. Grim and wmagzoo7. Neither identified 5-9th place but by including Vasu on his board, Mr. Grim is our official winner.
Sorry for the confusion.

Bingo was INSANELY CLOSE.
1.) No one had a bingo. 2.) A whole bunch of people had 10 of the 16 names in the top 16. 3.) I checked to see who had the 17th seed on there card as a tiebreaker. This still didn't narrow it down to 1 person. 4.) I checked to see who had the 18th seed on there card as a tiebreaker. This still didn't narrow it down to 1 person. 5.) I checked to see who had the 19th seed on there card as a tiebreaker. This still didn't narrow it down to 1 person. 6.) I checked to see who had the 20th seed on there card as a tiebreaker. This still didn't narrow it down to 1 person. 7.) I checked to see who had the 21st seed on there card as a tiebreaker. This still didn't narrow it down to 1 person. 8.) I checked to see who had the 22nd seed on there card as a tiebreaker. This still didn't narrow it down to 1 person. 9.) I checked to see who had the 23rd seed on there card as a tiebreaker. This still didn't narrow it down to 1 person. 10.) I checked to see who had the 24th seed on there card as a tiebreaker.
And for picking Josh Meckes...Greg Fenton is our TMD Open Bingo winner!

It felt good to be back in the game!
Thanks to all the people who came out for TMD Open 16. We had a number of people who could not make it but the 68 who did show up comprised of a very skilled field.
After 7 rounds of swiss we had the following standings: 1 Mastriano, Paul (VTG) 18 55.9524 2 Kohler, Justin (T3K) 17 71.4286 3 Magrann, Will (NFC) 17 68.254 4 Difebo, Dom (2BB) 17 61.1111 5 Farias, Andrew 16 62.6984 6 Feingersh, Ben 16 62.3129 7 Pratt, Taylor 16 62.3016 8 Pallas, Brian 16 55.7823 9 Kaplan, Dave 16 49.6599 10 Balakrishnan, Vasu (POO) 15 57.9365 11 Dupre, Craig 15 57.8231 12 Kelly, Brian (T3K) 15 57.8231 13 Martin, Jesse 15 56.3492 14 Menendian, Steve (VTG) 15 53.9683 15 Dixon, Tom 15 49.6032 16 Kohler, James (T3K) 15 46.2585 17 Berry, Craig (NFC) 13 59.8639 18 Fenton, Greg 12 70.3175 19 Lim, Joel (VTG) 12 69.0476 20 Hughes, Scott 12 66.6667 21 Brown, Joseph 12 61.9048 22 Picozzo, Vito (CRB) 12 56.3492 23 Vallas, Nick 12 56.3492 24 Meckes, Josh 12 55.102 25 Zimmerman, Robert 12 52.381 26 Geras, Jon (2BB) 12 51.7007 27 Geist, Casey 12 51.7007 28 Seals, Keith (TPG) 12 51.5873 29 Egan, Michael 12 51.5873 30 Pankiewicz, Chris 12 49.6599 31 Kelsey, Chris (TPG2) 12 47.2789 32 Bitzer, Sam 12 37.415 33 Materewicz, Chris (CRB) 10 50.3401 34 Ferrante, Chris (MCT) 10 43.9456 35 Beaumont, Oliver 10 43.5374 36 Conole, Aaron 9 63.8889 37 Moy, Mike 9 63.2653 38 Griffiths, Shawn (TPG) 9 60.3175 39 Close, Andrew 9 56.3492 40 Lydon, Michael 9 56 41 Sees, Bill (TPG2) 9 55.1587 42 Mahr, Mickey 9 51.9841 43 Granberry, Brad (NFC) 9 51.0204 44 Ferry, Chris (TPG) 9 49.6599 45 Zivny, Andrew 9 41.9048 46 Dempsey, Brandon (TPG2) 6 57.4074 47 Beaver, Jeremy (2BB) 6 54.4218 48 Rine, Matthew 6 52.7778 49 Sorrentino, Mike (MCT) 6 52.381 50 Ata, David 6 42.8571 51 Pace, Joe (CRB) 4 61.3333 52 Yergeau, Tony 3 83.3333 53 Grudzina, John (POO) 3 83.3333 54 Scalzo, Anthony 3 66.6667 55 Bhagat, Zohar (POO) 3 66.6667 56 Hayden, Trevor 3 66.6667 57 Snyder, Jareth 3 55.5556 58 Ellsworth, Stefan 3 55.5556 59 Mcnally, Matt 3 50 60 Annunziata, Andrew 3 50 61 Attmore, Brett 3 44.4444 62 Vandermeulen, Thomas 3 33.3333 63 Schlossberg, Brian 0 70.3704 64 Seeth, James 0 55.5556 65 Nania, Anthony 0 55.5556 66 Harris, Visna 0 50 67 Probasco, Andy 0 44.4444 68 Daliapes, Tom (MCT) 0 33.3333

Thanks so much everyone for the kind words. These events are always a lot of work and if adult life didn't get in the way so often they would be way more frequent. I would have loved to watch the top 8 players duel but my friends and I had to take off shortly after the swiss ended. Thanks, Joel, for promptly posting the results.

It is a last minute idea, but might be a really fun one.
After trivia, and a long day of running the event, I like to just sit and laugh with friends...you know...what Magic is all about.
Who here(assuming you are still around after trivia) would be up for one last game. The Magic Storytelling Game.
Everyone gets a chance to tell their very best story relating to magic and its community. I can even find a prize(maybe a playmat) for the best, most entertaining story, as voted by all contestants.
Thoughts?

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / TMD OPEN 16 BINGO
|
on: August 18, 2014, 08:41:47 pm

TMD Open Bingo is back.
You start with a five by five grid like so
Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Player Name Then you simply fill in names of 25 type one magic players expecting to play at the upcoming TMD Open 16 this weekend.
Discuss your choices and strategies here, and, of course, post your bingo boards.
I’ll accept submissions up until 11am Saturday. After that, I’m going to ask one of the mods to lock the thread, so that all the answers will be finalized.
To quote DA: You can mark off on your "TMD Open Bingo" board every player who makes top 16. The person who makes the most bingos (four corners, row, column, diagonal) on their board will receive free entry into TMD Open 17 or, if there is no feasible way for the winner to attend because of extreme geographic inconvenience (and that will be relatively strict), a smaller prize will be mailed to them.
In the event of a tie for the most bingos, the winner will be the person with the most overall correct guesses. The last tiebreaker will be placement of those players (for example correctly guessing the winner will hold more weight then guessing the second place finisher and so on). If placement doesn't break ties (i.e. two people posted the same grid), then the final tiebreaker will favor whoever posted first.
Take your best shot at winning free entry into TMD Open 17! Best of luck to all!

Getting close to this event and I am getting psyched.
I am hoping to get the feel of some of the first few TMD opens back. I have thought of a few old school games/hijinx/etc. Don't worry, no syrup chugging contest. For those who remember, that ended horribly.
I am going to let you all know about one of them right not.
-I ordered 300 custom fortune cookies. -Each match will receive one each round while they last. -The LOSER of each match gets the cookie as a consolation prize. -Inside 16 of every 17 cookies is one of 16 custom messages that I have solicited from members of the Vintage community summing up our great formats. There will be profound and funny statements from the likes of Rich Shay, Nick Detwiler, etc. -1 out of every 17 cookies will have a message that informs the person who opened it that they won a door prize and that they should see me to claim said prize!
Just a little something to try to make it memorable for everyone, not just those who top 8/top 16.
More to come this week. Stay tuned.
Oh...and let's hear some freakin trash talking already.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Vote for Team New England for the Grudge Match 2014!
|
on: July 31, 2014, 12:16:32 pm
|
The Grudge Match is upon us once again! It is up to YOU, the players of the New England, to decide who you want representing you against the far less talented teams of Pennsylvania/Southern NJ and New York/Northern NJ! Pick the FIVE most talented Vintage players who live in the New England region. The three players with the highest vote totals will make up TEAM NEW ENGLNAD, and represent the region! If anyone can't attend, the player with the 4th most votes will be put on the team, and so on.
Here are the qualifications: 1) The player/s must live in the New England region. 2) The player/s must be good at Vintage. Yes, I know everyone wants to vote for your BFFs and teammates. Use tournament results since the last Grudge Match as a barometer. Have the player/s you want to vote for Top 8'ed recently, or perhaps even won? If yes, then they would make a good candidate. 3) The player/s must be awesome (this SHOULD be a gimme, since everyone from New England is awesome). Anyone can change their votes by editing their post up until Friday, August 22nd, when this thread will be locked. LET THE VOTING BEGIN!

Hi everyone. Busy day planning details for this event, but I am here with a number of updates. First the annoying one, then the cool stuff. 1.) MOST IMPORTANT: The owner of Card Carrier Games has notified me that we must cap the attendance at 120. I predict we will will be close to this number and am hopeful that we get close but don't have to turn anyone away at the door. In order to guarantee your spot, you may preregister. In order to do this, you can paypal the entry fee to iamfishman2000@hotmail.com and I will add your name to a list in the original post with all the preregistered players. Once again, attendance will be capped at 120. Preregister to guarantee a spot. Otherwise you run the risk of not being able to play. 2.) WE WILL HAVE A DAY 2. I have decided that while many people were on the fence about committing, it just makes sense to offer a day 2 option. The prize will include a mox of 25 people show up. Day 2's are in some ways more fun than Day 1 because they are laid back and casual, so be sure to stay the extra day and get some extra Vintage in. 3.) In addition to the team competition, I am excited to announce that this will be an official Grudge Match Tournament. The grudge math will pit players from three geographical areas (New England, New York/Northern NJ, Pennsylvania/Southern NJ) against one another for pride and a sweet trophy. Teams will be voted on and this competition will be separate from the team competition prompting me to encourage you to try to unlock the following achievement: Triple Crown: Be the first to win a TMD Open, Team Competition, and Grudge Match at the same time. 4.) Jackie Gran will be at the event selling her awesome edible MTG creations (I believe cookies and brownies) and also some sweet custom playmats done by resident bleep-blop robot, Greg Fenton. For examples of each of their incredible work, please see the original post.
