1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: South Louisiana Vintage 6-8-13 on: June 09, 2013, 12:26:12 am
Small tournament report of my matchups for each round from memory:

-Round 1 vs Mike playing Shops:
Game 1 - He quickly powers out several Lodestone Golems and a few more sphere effects. I lose.
Game 2 - Battled through Tangle Wire's and Rachet Bomb's and a Steel Hellkite to lock him out with Jace while welding in and out my strix's.
Game 3 - A long grind after landing an early Welder trying to keep him off his threats. I eventually kill him by blowing up his Wurmcoil with my Heretic twice.
-I win 2-1

-Round 2 vs Dustin playing 5 Color Snap Control:
Game 1 - Kills me with tinker into Myr Battlesphere.
Game 2 - Draw-Go for a while until i land a Jace and fateseal to death
Game 3 - Draw-Go again and he kills with Bob and Snap.
-I lose 1-2

-Round 3 vs Aaron playing WUB Bomberman:
Game 1 - I fought to keep him off Vault-Key and finally killed him with Myr Battlesphere and a Bob.
Game 2 - I play a turn 3 Vault key for the win.
-I win 2-0

-Round 4 vs Thomas playing Grixis Control:
Game 1 - We both mull to 6  and he turn 2's a Blightsteel and I could not find an answer.
Game 2 - I mull to 5 and he assembles Vault-Key on 2 or 3.
- I lose 0-2

-Round 5 vs Jason playing Humans:
Game 1 - Cavern of Souls quickly gives him a massive boardstate while cannot keep up or counter anything.
Game 2 - I turn 2 Vault-Key for the win.
Game 3 - I turn 2 Vault-Key for the win again.
-I win 2-1

-Top 4 vs Dustin:
Game 1 - Grindy game but he has more counter magic and wins.
Game 2 - Another grind and I lose again.
0-2ed Sad

Overall it was a great day of vintage and I was very happy with my deck choice. I would probably take the Thirst for Knowledge out for a Gifts Ungiven, but otherwise it was a pretty solid list.
Thanks for reading.

@Prospero: I definitely will Nick. As soon as I figure out a place to stay, I will be purchasing my plane ticket.

@Pokey: Thanks Justin. I had lots of fun hanging out with you and everyone at GenCon. I'm really hoping that everything work out and I can come up there for this. Unfortunately Zach can not come due to school. Sad

Well, my brother and I contemplated going as soon as the event was created, but the total cost for flight, entry, and hotel was going to be $800+ each. Just a little too expensive for the two days.
I checked flights again today and it is about $80 cheaper, but Zach can still not go due to school. If I could find a cheap place to stay and get to and from the events, it would make this feasible for me to go for Saturday and Sunday.

Does anyone have an opening in there rooms still? I'm dying to go to this.

I had mine done by Mark Poole. I wanted it to be different from everyone else who asked for the normal Ancestral Recall art with a BOP on it.

I agree with Prospero about the match up against Marinara Mud, although it may be a slightly worse match up than that. I have tested against a couple of different welder decks with 5C and it is a nightmare.
It is hard to keep relevant artifacts on the board if they get a welder out.

Although I do believe that 5C can make a come back after seeing it dominate in both testing and in person at GenCon.

I have been testing the list that Slayn was playing at GenCon after discussing it with him there. The Metamorph has been phenomenal and i have never had it sit in my hand for more than a few turns before finding a game-changing use for it.

I still have yet to find a spot for the Maze of Ith, but i have been testing with 2 crucibles, as i would see more than one far too often while running 3, and this seems like an okay card to cut for an open spot in the main. Changes that i have been testing from Slayn's list have been:

- 1 Crucible of Worlds
- 1 Sundering Titan
+ 1 Karn, Silver Golem
+ 1 Myr Battlesphere

The Sundering Titan is awesome with Welder but Myr Battlesphere is another card that most decks have a trouble coming back from and is pretty hard to deal with. Having the automatic 4-8 damage a turn plus 4 extra Welder targets is huge, especially when you have multiple Welders on board or a Metamorph to copy the Battlesphere.
I also decided to test Karn in the main to add a little more utility. Blowing up your opponents moxen or turning you Spheres, Tangle Wires, Crucibles, and Smokestacks into some mid-range beats has helped a ton. Although with the amount of Lightning Bolts and Swords to Plowshares, I am still not sure if this will continue to be such a relevant option as it makes your relevant artifacts easy to deal with.

I have also been loving the addition of Cavern of Souls to the list. Being able to stick the welder without any problems is key.

Thanks guys! I will look into that. Those were the only cards I had seen from the deck, so I wasnt really sure what it was.

Hey guys,
I've been playing around with different MUD and ans STAX decks lately, but i wanted to try something different.
At GenCon, I was talking with a guy who was playing a painter-grindstone shops deck.  I didnt get his name or the list he was playing, i just remember that he is on team GFY and he beat LSV in the first Vintage prelims.

The only cards that im for sure are in the main deck are:
-Mishra's Workshop
-Leyline of the Void
-Painter's Servant
-Helm of Obedience
-Grindstone

If anyone can help me get the rest of the list, it would be greatly appreciated!
thank you
