Just a rumor I've read on our forums (don't even know the source yet) and can't say if there is any truth to it:
Quote
First, some background.

The people at WoTC want to support Eternal formats at all levels of competitive play. Unfortunately, the format is simply too expensive for something like a Pro Tour and associated qualifier season to be economically viable. The price of key staples would be even higher they are now if they did this, due to increased demand. And because of the reserve list, they can't simply print more.

So, a new format is coming. It will be released later this year, with high-level events next year and probably a Pro Tour in 2012, assuming the format catches on. Here's how it will work.

1. Normal constructed Magic rules apply. This isn't a special-rules format like EDH or Planechase.
2. All cards printed during Masques block and later blocks, plus associated core sets, are legal (except banned cards, of course).
3. Nothing ever rotates out.

One point of uncertainty. My source says they haven't definitely decided on Masques block as the cutoff yet, but it will be around that time.

With the ability to reprint staples if necessary, the people at WoTC hope they can make a non-rotating format which is accessible enough to use in a PT and qualifier season.

Eastman, thanks for the list, for the first time in a year or so there is an urge to try and play a new deck. Wink

Just one question: why no necro?
7  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: [Deck Discussion] Renovating Blue Bullshit on: September 06, 2008, 08:22:52 am
Brainstorm really isn't good in this kind of deck, so i'd suggest cutting it, the problem is that the deck is pretty much just mana and counterspells, so brainstorm won't really help you much...You don't need to shuffle anything away.

Except sometimes you have extra lands (or no lands) in hand or need to dig for something. I'd say that Brainstorm is quite ok in this deck.

9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: GWS Long v2.0 - Return to Glory on: June 15, 2008, 07:17:54 pm
Thanks Eric for the decklist. Wink

A couple of questions:
1) Street Wraith was 'an automatic four of' when the card was printed... and then, after a few tries, haven't found a home in many archetypes. How was it in your testing and did you find problems with mulligan or loss of life because of SW?
2) Simian Spirit Guide was 'too valuable' in GWS Long v1.0. Prison will probably be Tier 1 in a new meta, and SSS works well against 9sphere decks. You did not find him useful any more, or there isn't room for SSS in this version?
3) What do you think of Merchant Scroll instead of one Chain of Vapor? It can find Pact, Ancestral, Brainstorm & Mystical and still fetch a bounce when you need it.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck Discussion] Pitch Long - its been left behind? on: May 16, 2008, 06:26:18 am
I split in tournament recently with about as pure of a storm combo deck as you'll find. All the draw7's, none of the Ponder/Gush shit. I'll post a list after the SCG p9 weekend.
Any chance to see this list, now the SCG p9 weekend is passed?
Seconded.
Additionally, some explanation on card choices and if you'd change anything after the tournament wouldn't be too bad either. Wink
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck/Primer] NLD- Next Level Doomsday on: April 30, 2008, 10:16:50 am
Right... that is what I said in my orginal post...  but that specific hand doesn't have an Island in it... so I am not really sure the point of your post.
What specific hand? Kobe didn't specify anything about his hand except that you need UB or UG mana. That's two lands or mox + land.

If you're logged in as an administrator you could take ownership of those files.
View a properties of a folder/drive -> security* -> Advanced -> Owner -> Check 'Replace owners on subcontainers and Objects' -> Ok.

* If there is no security tab you'll have to disable simple file sharing (in Windows Explorer, Tools -> FolderOptions -> View -> Remove checkmark on 'Use simple file sharing').

Hope it helps.

Any tips on playing ponder and/or brainstorm? Which card should be usually played first?

And thanks for the article.
15  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck] The Tropical Storm (TTS) on: January 13, 2008, 08:16:00 pm
If I'm not mistaken, the changes were -1 Thoughtseize, -1 Sol Ring, +1 Darksteel Colossus, +1 Lotus Petal.

I've played the deck a little, and like it quite a bit more than SuperLong. Gushes help immensely when you need that one mana more or are stuck in a stalemate. Sometimes, just sometimes, it feels a bit light on bombs (compared to my favourite GWS long).
Eric, what do you think about Websters and LSV changes (and sideboards, which are different), and do you think 2 bounce spells are needed for game 1?
16  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck] The Tropical Storm (TTS) on: December 29, 2007, 07:00:59 pm
Thanks Kobe for your work.  Wink

A few questions:
1. Chalice at 1 seems extremely painful (around 25 1cc spells) for this deck, as well for Super Long. You hope you won't see chalice or think that gushes will find you 2 bounce spells in time?
2. How fast does TTS goldfish in your testing?
3. If you're playing Tinker shouldn't Colossus be at least in the sideboard?
17  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck] Super Long on: November 24, 2007, 08:30:18 pm
@ Steve: Do you plan to write an article about this deck anytime soon? If not I would like to since I think one is warranted for the community at large. I'd definitely run it by Meandeck for critiquing.

Your 'Storm Returns' article at mtgchicago.com was fantastic, another one focusing on one list would be great!

Signed. If it'll be half as good as your gws long primer, it'll be a worthwhile read.
Just do it, Eric. Very Happy
18  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Gush TPS: another look on: October 30, 2007, 07:43:51 am
Nice list Liam-K, however I'd like to ask some questions:
1. What's your sideboard like (presumably 4x Leyline, 3-4 REB, Empty?)
2. How do you think it will fare in the post-Lorwyn metagame (especially against 9sphere.dec)? Gush will have a hard time when a sphere lands.

Yes, 4 Virulent Slivers!

That makes it a 62 card deck.

You are forgetting that post board you have 4x pyroblast as instant speed counter (and with SSG it becomes FoW).

Thanks again for the help with the editing.
I'll do it whenever you ask. Free of charge. Wink

23  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] A Future Sight of Vintage on: May 05, 2007, 08:23:32 pm
Sumonner's Pact - it can grab Protean Hulk, which means instant win in combination with Flash. Then again, Smmenen says it's bloody awful.
What???  Where did I say that?

I was reffering to Hulk-Flash combo, not Summoner's Pact.
24  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] A Future Sight of Vintage on: May 05, 2007, 07:21:41 am
Thanks for the article, it was a good read. Some little nitpicks:  Wink

Street Wraith - drawback of being vanila 3/4 creature is not that bad when playing against fish. Also,
Quote from: Yare
My gut says that there is diminishing utility per Street Wraith whenever you add a Street Wraith, but this could be incorrect for various reasons.
this looks like 60 vs 61 cards in a deck argue. And we all know how that ends usually.  Very Happy

Aven Mindcensor - casting cost of 3 could prove to be a serious drawback, especially in fish where creatures usually cost 1 or 2 mana.

Sumonner's Pact - it can grab Protean Hulk, which means instant win in combination with Flash. Then again, Smmenen says it's bloody awful.
25  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Rector Flash on: May 04, 2007, 04:38:22 pm
Smmenen, shouldn't we first establish if rector is actually right for flash deck(s)? Protean hulk is already making waves in legacy, it seems like it could find home in Vintage as well (especially post FS).
26  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: One last go. A player and TO report. [with top 8 decklist] on: May 01, 2007, 06:06:57 pm
Kobefan, I don't know if it is appropriate to ask questions after your final tournament, but here they are anyway:

1) Would you change anything in your list after the tournament?
2) I noticed that you didn't have much against ichorid in the sb. You didn't fear it, didn't expect it or choose to ignore it until FS comes out?
3) Would you make place in your current list for street Wraith after FS becomes legal, and if the answer is yes, what would you take out?

Btw, sad to see you go, hope you'll return some day, but if not, best of luck in your mtgless life. You did a lot for our little community.

28  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Ritual Gifts on: February 18, 2007, 04:21:32 am
Yes, so if I can chain rituals, ancestral and a tutor, it's quite important to crypt before will.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that you probably won't have priority after the first spell, so crypting in response to their first spell won't be possible.
29  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Ritual Gifts on: February 18, 2007, 04:02:30 am
If someone opens their mainphase by yawging right into your crypt, it's probably smarter to use it in response to their first spell out of the yard, even if it is ancestral.).
If they see your crypt, they probably won't give you priority before playing all the instants and first sorcery.
30  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Premium Article] Tweaking (and further exploring) Meandeck Gifts on: September 21, 2006, 01:43:07 pm
This was, in my oppinion, one of your better articles I've read lately. Your fear of no one reading your articles is either a false modesty or a misconception. Thursday or no, T1 crowd will read it.

I think exploring gifts piles in far more depth than has previously been done - approaching Gifts more as a Dday scenario or a Combo puzzle -- is what is presently called for.
That's the article I (and probably many others) are waiting for a long time.
