1  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] Glimpse/Clamp-Kobold on: March 16, 2005, 12:48:01 pm
actually, No Rest does quite a bit more in the deck than it lets on.  also, diabolic intent is in the deck.  unrestricted demonic tutoring is fine, especially when you factor in the synergy with it and skullclamp on creatures with a toughness > 1.

as for not using land grant, the list i posted's land base is a bit off from the current land base which iincludes 0 dual lands and 0 basic lands.  also, the lack of land grant is because its often just not necessary.

the list isn't optimal by a long shot, however its a good place to start when looking at a list that focuses on just pure speed.  its fundamental turn is 2 with turn 1 wins being more common than it would seem.  if i were to make any changes to the deck it would be to make room for maybe 2 or 3 more 0 cc creatures, possibly Phyrexian Walker or Shield Sphere, to reduce the chance of fizzling after the first glimpse.

all that said, my list is probably one of the faster lists, but that just means its got a farther way to go to be more optimal.

its really really odd, but the more i play with the Alabama Kobold list, the more it feels like it really wants to be Meandeck Tendrils or even TPS.

for reference here's the list:

4 Crookshank Kobolds
4 Crimson Kobolds
4 Kobold's of Kher Keep
4 Ornithopter
4 Skullclamp
4 Glimpse of Nature
1 Demonic Tutor
3 Diabolic Intent
3 No Rest for the Wicked
2 Tendrils of Agony
4 Dark Ritual
3 Culling the Weak
5 Moxen
1 Black Lotus
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Gemstone Mine
2 Undiscovered Paradise

i'm not entirely convinced that the list above is even close to optimal.  in fact, i'd probably throw it somwhere near the 30-40% close pile.   it just has too many hands where it doesn't do anything.  i've all but given up on it, but do with it what you will.

While I can see some use for Steelshaper over Glimpse in the deck, once you start going off, having already cast a glimpse will often just win the game.  especially if you're running 12+ 0cc creatures.

Also, in testing its come to my attention that No Rest for the Wicked is really, really good in this deck.
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Card Discussion] Serrated Arrows on: January 07, 2005, 04:31:28 pm
personally if i were left with the choice of running serrated arrows or another land, i'd probably play infused arrows from 5D.  it effectively waxes welder just like the arrows does, and its going ot stick around after you've used it up, so you can then tinker/transmute it into something useful..

not that it matters, they're both horrible cards right now (and probably forever)
