1  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Old School Magic @ Eudemonia!!! October, 18, 2015 MARK YOUR CALENDARS! on: October 17, 2015, 11:10:40 pm
I just found out I could make it to this... and, oh my, look how many of my old cards are not allowed because they are 4th edition  Sad

I always traded for 4th over Revised because of how much richer the inking in 4th was.  Ruh roh.

Smmenen: I don't know how much weight the words of someone like me carry, (I haven't logged in to TMD in about 10 years!) but for the next one of these, could 4th edition please be allowed?

  • All the cards are reprints of already playable cards, with the SAME art and card frame.
  • Chronicles, which is allowed, came out after 4th edition.

You might get some more Sylvan Libraries, Land Taxes, and Ball Lightnings in the field... but then again, would that not be sweet?

Having it Commandeered would suck.  MisD means you just choose 3 cards you do nott want anyway.

up to three cards...

I know I'm alone on this but I absolutely hate foil cards.  I think they are tacky, gaudy, and condescending to the player base (oh they'll love this, it's SHINEY!)
I understand that part of the reason they changed the card face was because the old face supposedly looked "not so good" in foil.  So you can blame foils, at least in part, for the card face change.  And they are tacky, much of the time...

As for new FoW: textless art would be the coolest.

If it were black green, I'd run humble budoka, troll ascetic, pernicious deed, and spiritmonger. That way, your completely immune to the abyss, and you murder the opponents creatures.

Your Troll Ascetic also dies to your The Abyss.

People often try to play around The Abyss by dumping multiple creatures at once.  Things that tie up creatures, like Maze of Ith, can exacerbate the effectiveness of The Abyss.

The rulebook (4th edition or so) actually said in it "Our condolences to anyone who has been killed by an Ornithopter."

I'll admit to playing a deck back then that frequently killed with a greatly enhanced 0/2 flyer of DOOM.  The beauty of it was that I could cite the rulebook for a triumphant, metaphorical Nelson Muntz-esque "Haw, haw!"  ...all in good fun, of course.

This is from round 8 vs. Jason with Deathlong:

Game 3: He gives me a few Orchard tokens and tries to timetwister. I should?ve remembered at this point that he has no forces and hold my chant but I play it anyway.

I'm really confused by this statement.  Hold Chant?  It will get Timetwister'ed away anyways!  It seems like the choice is:

  • Don't play Chant, shuffle Chant into deck, draw 7, have an extra {W} available, opponent casts...
  • Do play Chant, shuffle Chant into deck, draw 7, opponent ends turn.

You've compared Chant to a Timewalk, though it doesn't let you draw, but in response to Timetwister, it doesn't even have that drawback.  What's the point of holding it?
