1  Eternal Formats / Creative / U/W control [help needed] on: May 17, 2005, 10:20:01 am
I am somewhat new in the control deck buisness, I always played aggro and combo (I loved combo) and I really hated to play against control.... so if you can't beat them join them.

Because I am still on a somewhat budget (no power, drains, etc) I can't make something like drain slaver.
After looking around I came acros fish and birdsh*t.
I like both decks, no power and alot of control, after messing around with them a made this:

mana: 18
4 Flooded Strand
4 Tundra
3 Volcanic Island
2 Plateau
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

control:
4 Force of Will
3 Daze
3 Misdirection
3 Stifle

draw:
4 Brainstorm
4 Mask of Memory

creatures:
4 Meddling Mage
4 Rootwater Thief
4 Spiketail Hatchling

other:
4 Null Rod
3 Swords to Plowshares
2 Crucible of Worlds

In essence it is the birdshit deck with the fish creatures, making it an U/W control deck
my question is, would this work? are there ways to improve this? and how do I make a sideboard for this deck (I think that aggro might be a problem)

My meta is not really intresting, few power and alot of budget decks, but it is a mix of alot of diffrent decks.

The biggest chances I made on the original birdsh*t deck is removing green and putting in spiketail hatchling and rootwater thief. I did this because I think these creatures will help controlling the game. Further I made the draw more creature dependend with mask of memory, I think this is a very underestimated powerful card. The last mayor thing I did is adding crucible's they just seemd right with all those wasteland and stripmine.

already thanks for the help.

2  Eternal Formats / Creative / need help to pick a new vintage deck. on: May 06, 2005, 05:36:56 am
Hello everyone, I want to play a new deck. At the moment I have three vintage decks:

Raffinity: (my nr 1 deck)

Mana: 23
4 Great Furnace
4 Glimmervoid
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Tree of Tales
3 Gaea’s Cradle
R Tolarian Academy
R Lotus Petal
R Sol Ring
R Mana Vault

creatures:
4 Myr Enforcer
4 Arcbound Ravager
4 Arcbound Worker
4 Frogmite
4 Myr Moonvessel
3 Atog

other spells:
4 Skullclamp
4 Berserk
4 Fling
R Memory Jar
R Wheel of Fortune

The deck is quite obvious, it wins by a berserked ravager or atog, after that attack you can fling it for the kill. The deck plays nice and is quite consistend, most of the time t4 kill.

Elfball: (when I started with magic I had an elf deck, it thought it was fun to upgrade it to T1 elfball)

Manabase: 20
2  Forest
4  Taiga
4  Land Grant
4  Wooded Foothills
3  Maze of Ith
1  Gaea's Cradle (other cradle's are in the deck above)
R  Channel
R  Crop Rotation

Cretures: 22
3  Argothian Elder
4  Fyndhorn Elves
4  Llanowar Elves
4  Priest of Titania
3  Birchlore rangers
4  Quirion Ranger

Other spells: 18
4  mass hysteria
2  volcanic geyser
4  ghitu fire
4  Living Wish
4  Slate of Ancestry

SB
1  argothian elder
1  maze of ith
1  volcanic geyser
4  hull breach
4  gaea's herhald
4  overmaster

The deck wins by a massive ghitu fire or volcanic geyser, to get enough mana you use the maze and elder combo or just generate enough with the other elfes.
This deck is just for fun but it has some good (read somewhat expensive) cards in it, and it actually is quite strong combered to my friends deck's

blackdragon.dec:

18 swamp
1 lotus petal
1 chrome mox
1 mox diamond
4 dark ritual
2 cabal ritual

Combo:
2 worldgorger dragon
2 ambassador laquatus
2 caller of the claw

4 animate dead
4 dance of the dead
2 necromancy
4 buried alive

disruption:
2 duress
4 unmask

Tutor:
1 demonic tutor
1 vampiric tutor
1 demonic consultation
3 spoils of the vault
1 necropotence

well, this deck also needs no explanation, its actually the reason I make this post because after I made this deck I realize that the other two, even my rafiinity what I thought was really good, totally suck.
This deck is cheaper then my raffinity deck, it wins most of the time at T3 and it has disruption to protect itself, what is there not to like Very Happy.

My question to you guys is, what is a good (budget) vintage deck for me to make?
I am planning to dismantle the first two decks and trade for cards to make my dragon deck better and I want to build a new deck.
After looking around I came to conclusion that Hulk smash and FCG would be good choices, because I already have the berserk's for hulk smash (and I would like to play a control deck) and I have the complete mana base for FCG.
I know FCG is a really good budget deck, but is a budget hulk smash viable? (my meta is not really powered, a few moxen and lotuses)
I also read something about Sensei-Sensei, is that deck viable?
Because I would prefer to make a control deck I also want to ask what are viable control deck's on a budget?
Other ideas for budget decks are also welcome.

Already thanks for the help
