Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Countering & Standstill

Situation : I have Standstill in play. My opponent plays a Brainstorm, I choose to Counterspell the Brainstorm.
So the stack is 1.)Brainstorm 2.)Standstill Trigger 3.)Counterspell
Am I correct with the way the stack works? Since my Counterspell is the first spell off the stack, does the Standstill trigger for my opponent? Standstill says when a spell is played, and I am a bit confused by this. Is a spell still played when it is countered?
This question ties into another. When an Imprint card is played, and countered, is a card ever chosen for the imprint, and thus out of the game. Or does that part of the Imprint card never go into effect.
I appreciate the help.

Hi,
Just came back to Magic and I have a couple questions for those more rules-savvy than I:
1. Let's say I block with a Mother of Runes and then tap to give her protection from the color that she blocks. Is this legal, and will she still deal one damage to the attacker? And then how does the same thing work with Icatian Javelineers?
2. Use of a Mother of Runes or any other protection-giving spell or effect:    I give a White creature with a white enchantment on it protection from white, will this destroy the enchantment which is already on it?Â
3. Can you Animate Dead or Necromancy and Akroma, or does the Pro-Black apply even in the graveyard. If you can Animate an Akroma will she come into play and then immediately destroy the enchantment as a result of her protection and return to the graveyard anyhow (relating to the question above).Â
4. Also Protection from a Color means that the protected creature cannot be blocked by creatures of that color at all now correct?
I appreciate the help, as I'm an old schooler just come back to Magic and some of the new changes are rough if you don't have a rules book right there in front of you.Â
