I'm going to be traveling with my friend Phil, who isn't into t1 too much, but will probably play.  As for anybody else, I haven't heard yet about other people building decks or anything.

CO, are you still going to make it down?

Sorry Bob, the rest of the weekends around that time are going to be busy at the store and this will be the only weekend to hold the Type 1.  Sorry guys, it looks like CO's reign might be ending.  Couple that with me actually doing some testing this time around and I predict at least a top 4 finish for myself and 1st for NE. Cool

The tournament is coming up on Saturday and I just wanted to let those of you who will scrub out that there will be a Guildpact Release event happening at 3:30 to jump into with a $20 entry fee.
Are the Iowa guys showing up again?

Just giving this tournament a little bump as it is coming up next weekend.  We had a lot of guys show up to the last one and it was a rousing success.  Maybe those CO guys will actually get the Mox this time...
Guildpact will be available for sale at the site at a wonderful price too, so save your doubloons for a box.  See you there!

Actually, yeah, I could cut the Library and not miss it, I think you are right.  And the sideboard is sadly, underdeveloped.  I didn't put a lot of thought into it and should probably have different cards in it.  I have felt that I only need one Seal of Cleansing, between main and side, for it to make an impact.  There are more powerful, game effecting enchantments to bring in from the sideboard instead of the Seal.
The Bargain feels strictly like a "win more" card.  I haven't really ever been happy with it.  Ever since it was cut in favor of Decree, the deck seems to run better.  Plus, Decree is a blue card for Force in a pinch.
Regarding the Deep Analysis and why they didn't make the deck, let me ask a question.  What do you consider to be the best matchup of this deck?  I have always had a great matchup against control simply because of the uncounterable card drawing that the deck is already packing.  A Bazaar going at full steam is more than enough to win the matchup and really, I feel that Deep Analysis is again just a "win more" card.  Granted, your matchup percentages against control are going to drop slightly by cutting them, but I think that the cards that you replace them with can shore up some of the more difficult matchups.
22  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Discussion] Bazaar/Replenish Deck on: January 13, 2006, 12:02:54 pm
Hey guys, I want to give the discussion about this deck a bump.  With Ravnica, the deck has evolved into what I consider a top tier deck with the inclusion of Life from the Loam.  The Dredge mechanic was made for this deck.
Let me talk a little bit about some of the different card choices that I have made and why I made them.  First of all, Life from the Loam is simply amazing in this deck and adds a completely new dimension to the card advantage.  Adding a Strip Mine into the deck I believe is important in various matchups as just casting an Intuition can get your entire Bazaar engine going while destroying land every turn.  In the control matchup, this is key as there are times when the game stalls and if you are aggressively attacking lands while drawing with Bazaar, it is basically over from there.  Not to mention, Life from the Loam is simply amazing against Stax as you can basically ignore their LD as long as Crucible doesn't show up.
Secondly, lets talk about Decree of Silence vs. Yawgmoth's Bargain.  I have found that Bargain's primary use is to draw yourself counters and protection once the basic combo is out on the table.  Decree instead protects your combo (uncounterable) and hampers any deck from finding their cards that can damage the combo.  Also, early in the game, Replenishing only Decree into play while you search for the rest of the combo is very good, at least in my testing.
Tinker and DSC are the perfect alternate win condition.  Tinker is a one card combo and will randomly win you 1 out of 8 games.  In a tournament setting, it is a great distraction and is only taking up two slots for the potential of winning even if under a soft-lock.
Humility needs to stay in simply because of Welder in my opinion.  It also can be fetched up and stop any sort of aggro deck from winning.  It also deals with DSC.
I don't know, what do you guys think of my build?  I have had great success with it recently (except for the Mox tournament in Lincoln...) and I really think it is one of the better decks in the format.

23  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Results for Lincoln, NE Hobbytown USA Mox Ruby on: January 12, 2006, 12:58:17 pm
I didn't take any notes, so bear with me if it is somewhat light on actual info and strategy.  As far as what I played against:
First round - Oath dude from CO
I kept land light hands both games and ended up not even putting up a fight either game as he did the standard "Oath up Akroma and Razia, beat down" type stuff.  In testing, I have a pretty good matchup against standard Oath builds...Duress gives me problems typically, but I usually can power thru it as long as there isn't pressure super early. Record 0-1

Second round - Control slaver style deck from Omaha dude
I typically have a great matchup against this as they cannot counter or stop my card advantage engine (Bazaar/Squee/Loamy) and I eventually overwhelm them.  Both games were typical of the matchup.  There were some early plays with Thirsts on both sides of the table, etc. but eventually Bazaar came down with a couple of Squees in hand and it was basically over from there.  Record 1-1

Third round - G/W Savage Wrecking Ball Beats from Lincoln dude (same guy in Lou's report)
Aggro can be a little tougher for this deck as it takes a little bit to usually set up the combo.  Anyway, first game he gets out some early beaters and starts taking chunks of life from me while I try to counter and stabilize.  I had an enlightened tutor in hand and fetched up a Humility to assuage the pain.  Two turns later it was over for him as I dumped Form and Decree in the yard and Replenished up the win.
Next game, he sided in the full complement of Terashi Grasps and Disenchants...some early beats from him put me at a precariousl life total.  Humility comes down turn 3 without any of the other combo pieces in sight.  He throws down a couple more guys and beats me up for one and two a turn for a while.  I keep digging and digging with Bazaar.  Intuition shows up and I get Form, Decree and Confinement in the yard, but I still cannot find a Replenish.  EOT on my turn he Grasps my Humility and goes in for enough damage with an Armadillo Cloaked Ascetic to put me at one and him at some ridiculous life total around 35.  I sigh and tap Bazaar for some more digging EOT his turn...don't find anything.  Untap, draw, dig.  Nothing.  There are still 4 Replenish in the deck after going through half of it.  I have a Thirst in hand and 6 mana available on the table.  To win, I will need to draw a Mox or some artifact mana + Replenish off the Thirst.  Needless to say, I draw exactly what I need (thank you Lotus!) and Replenish for the combo.  The odds were with me to draw it eventually, but I still lucked into it.  Record 2-1

Fourth Round - Staff of Domination Combo from Iowa dude (eventual winner of the tournament)
First game we battle back and forth with counters etc. while I dig with Bazaar.  I had no real idea what he was playing so I went about my business as normal.  Critical turn was during his main phase, me with the entire combo in the yard and a Replenish in hand hot and spicy ready to be played next turn.  He tries to combo off going for Memory Jar and does some other things.  Sorry I don't have all the details, but needless to say, he does tons of drawing and other fun stuff but does not go off.  He did cast Timetwister during the turn, which completely wrecked all my hopes and dreams by putting the combo back in the deck.  After Memory Jar and Timetwister in the same turn, he had developed his board while I had a hand full of junk.  Elementary from there as he dropped a Metalworker with force backup and proceeded to combo me out next turn.
Second game, I kept a hand with 1 land, Mox Sapphire and Bazaar with Mana Drain and a force (no other blue card).  I play land mox go.  He drops Mishra's workshop and plays Metalworker.  I smile and attempt the Mana Drain but he forces it away...I draw and lay the Bazaar and pass the turn.  He untaps, draws, lays staff of domination, taps metal worker revealing two artifacts and combos me out second turn...I guess I can't deal with the nuts draw with force backup so I packed up the cards and walked dejectedly around the site for five minutes or so.

The special lady friend called and asked how I was doing.  I told her the record and she told me there was a special treat waiting at home for me.  I quickly checked the drop box and said my good lucks and headed home.  I wouldn't have been able to squeeze into top 8 anyway, so there was no reason to stay.
As far as 3 Trop Islands, yeah, it might have been incorrect.  I had been testing with only 2 and had been doing just fine with it but I would sometimes have problems with Loam sticking in my hand while I searched for a strand.  Either way, probably a mistake.
As for how Loam worked, in testing it is completely amazing.  I love the card and the avalanche of card advantage that you get from it on top of the normal bazaar/squee combo.  I didn't get a chance to really use it during the tourney, so I cannot say either way how it works.  One game against the control slaver dude I did EOT Intuition for Loam/Strip Mine/Bazaar and proceeded to eat all his land while drawing tons of goodies, so that worked well at least.  I am not convinced yet if it should replace Squee as you do have to spend mana main phase to get the most out of your Bazaar and Squee, well, he's free all the time.  Upside to Loam is that you can power through random LD while still going about business as normal.  Both might be a good choice.

For those that care, I ended up playing Bazaar/Replenish to a stellar 2-2 drop record.  Poor play, lack of focus, and a hangover all contributed to the record.  I kept multiple sketchy hands which should have been off to the trash for a fresh six, but ah well, get 'em next time eh?  Btw Lou, sorry I didn't stick around for the trade, the wife wanted me home and who am I to resist?  You can get me next tournament http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/index.php?topic=26762.0

I crushed Lou last time we played at Gencon (w/ Form of the Dragon, I'm so scrubby  Mr. Green), so it won't be a complete cakewalk for you guys.
Looking forward to crushing Colorado dreams tomorrow...

I'm giving this tournament one last bump before the weekend.  I know it is a long way to travel for most of you northeasterners, but I've seen some Nebraska guys lurking on these forums and I would love to see as many people as possible show up and experience some Vintage goodness.
I'll write a tournament report after it is all done...

Fifteen proxies.

These guys know what its about.

Dat's right...
 Cool

Giving this tournament a bump cuz it's coming up next weekend.  We will be giving out 100% payout for this tournament and are already expecting at least 20 people.  I hope to see some of you there, it will be worth the trip!

We have decided to make this tournament 15 Proxies instead of 10!  Why have only 10 when you can have 15?  We hope everybody in the area can make it down for this tournament.
And we are guaranteeing the Mox Ruby for first place!

This is our first big tournament of the new year!  We'd love to see more than just the locals show up.  Do you think you have what it takes to come here and win a Mox?
