1  Eternal Formats / Creative / u/w Landstill - Help me make the perfect build on: November 26, 2005, 11:42:06 am
I’ve decided to play Landstill, the u/w version, and I think I will need some feedback before I start competing with it. I’ve posted the decklist below:

u/w Landstill (60 cards)

Lands (23)

4 Tundra
4 Flooded Strand
4 Mishra’s Factory
2 Faerie Conclave
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Library of Alexandria
2 Island
1 Plains

Creatures (0)

Artifacts (8)

1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Pearl
3 Nevinyrral's Disk
2 Crucible of Worlds

Enchantments (4):

4 Standstill

Other Spells (25):

3 Brainstorm
4 Swords to Plowshares
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Balance
4 Force of Will
4 Mana Drain
2 Disenchant
3 Stifle
2 Decree of Justice

Sideboard (15 cards):

3 Pithing Needle
4 Meddling Mage
3 Wrath of God
1 Nevinyrral's Disk
3 Arcane Laboratory
1 Maze of Ith

My metagame:
The strongest decks around seems to be TPS, Oath and Stax-versions. Tendrils and combo-decks are a common sight, while aggro is not very common, although there are numerous goblin-decks out there. Fish is another deck one can count on facing.

I’m not sure at all about the sideboard. WoG is great against goblins. Arcane Laboratory is great against tendrils. Pithing Needle stops Welder, Bazaar of Baghdad, Auriok Salvagers etc. Meddling Mage is great against combo in general, and the Maze stops Oath and Dr.Teeth. But this sideboard has no room for other great cards, such as Teferi’s Response, Echoing Truth/Rushing River/Chain of Vapor, the two Disenchants not in the maindeck, extra Mazes etc. What do you think?

And how about Balance and Brainstorm? Are they worth running? Should I include Chalice of the Void? Misdirection? Is it worth having Disenchant maindecked?

I have no intentions of including red in the deck, so there'll be no Gorilla Shaman and no Fire // Ice.

Coffin Purge in wish SB is never wrong, because it answers to reanimation such as the dragon combo. Play one.

EDIT:  You really should play Gush in maindeck.

Cut the direct damage and add more control elements. The "free counterspells", Daze and Force of Will, work well in the deck because you want to be able to drop a threat without losing the opportunity to stop whatever your opponent is up to. Also, try some more control-based creatures, ones that will both beat down your opponent and prevent him from winning, Rootwater Thief and Spiketail Hatchling are two good examples. If you want even more aggro, add 4 Faerie Conclave.

I think Pithing Needle might be a possible sideboard option for the combo-decks themselves. Naming Tormod's Crypt and/or Wasteland isn't bad at all if you play Dragon. It can also kill cards like Phyrexian Furnace, Withered Wretch etc, and having answers for welder is never bad, so I think it would be rather nice having 2-3 Needles in your dragon SB.
