1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Worlds in Chiba - Vintage Side-Event on: December 17, 2010, 07:17:46 pm
Yes they do.
2  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Worlds in Chiba - Vintage Side-Event on: December 13, 2010, 10:21:48 am
And 6 of Time Vault. By the way, we were 4 players playing Turbo Tezz (http://www.morphling.de/top8decks.php?id=1343), and we all made 4-2-0, winning through odious top-decks all day long. The card cuts sooo many interest from the game...
3  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Worlds in Chiba - Vintage Side-Event on: December 10, 2010, 09:09:35 am
I left before the end, final results within a few hours I guess, but here's some information.

41 people, 6 rounds + TOP8. I would say 1/3 of the room was full of MUD, the other 1/3 with Vault Control and the rest with Oath and randoms.

TOP8 : 2 MUD and 6 Vault Controls. At least one MUD went on semi, the other one was kicked by a Vault. Dunno how the tourny ended.

I was playing Turbo Tezz (list somewhere on Morphling), did 4-2-0 and finished 15th with the worst opp % of the day I guess  Surprised. Hiromichi beat me on the first round but did crap the rest of the day (shame on him to have been playing MUD).
4  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: 1st place in Gencon's Vintage Prelim 8-0-1 /w Elephant Oath. I WON A COMPUTER!!! on: August 11, 2010, 08:16:03 pm
Great perf Stan, now you just have to come back to Japan for the Worlds and try to beat to become the Japanese Champion :p
5  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: GenCon Indy 2010 Results Thread on: August 05, 2010, 10:17:58 pm
I heard that Hiromichi aka World Champ made 1-2-drop, and Stanley aka Cyberpunker won the first tournament.
6  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Double 1st Place reports. 3-0-1 and 6-0-1 with Elephant Oath. on: May 02, 2010, 11:16:02 pm
GG to you Stan, the deck is definitly a pain in the neck to fight against, but I wish I could beat you on finals again  Wink Next time for sure  Smile
7  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Osaka, Japan with Chronomage. 3rd Place. 12-20-2009. My reflections on the deck. on: December 20, 2009, 04:19:35 am
17 people showed up (such ridiculous compared to the 180 Legacy players who were playing in the same room the probably most important Legacy event in the history of Japan ).

Metagame:

Oath x2
Dredge x1
MUD x2
Evagreen x1
Selkie Fish x1
Vault Control x5
TPS-like x1
Tarmo.deck x1
Painter x1
Forgot.deck x2

I spent more time on train than playing Magic.
I/ BYE
II/ Painter : my opp takes a GL, I overwhelm him with AK ftw.
III/ Hiromichi : G3, I mull into nothing while he resolves a Darconfi, gg.
IV/ kooaznboi1088 : Mull 2 times into something weaker than him, gg.
V/ Vault control : AK ftw.

3-2-0, I finished 5th while it's a Top4 \(^o^)/.

As we already talked bout it, I think Twister doesn't belong to the deck. It's not like it would give you mana acceleration to put your combo on board ftw, it just full your opponent's hand with responses or threats, at least as much as you. I guess Top is better.

God decided that I was to do well in Tokaido's tournament and so I did. But he also decided that Nico was to win and so Nico did.
Yes, there must be a God for top deck Very Happy.

Gratz for OUR perf, 2 foreigners to the Japanese Championship final, what else?

12  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: 【Vintage from Tokyo #18】 Top 8 lists on: October 16, 2009, 09:52:59 am
Some of the card choices seem unusual compared to what we normally see (2 SDT in ANT with 1 Bob sideboard,  2 Lightning Bolts in Vault/Key, etc).  Was wondering if any of these guys post here or could offer some insight on their builds?
I am afraid they can't : they don't speak english  Surprised. Regarding Hiromichi's list, Bolt is just a metagame call (supposed to be a lot of random aggro here in Tokyo).

I spent a lot of time translating Hiromichi's interview as I thought the article would be available to everyone, but actually it's not the case and I feel sorry for all the people who would like to know more about the Japanese Vintage scene and our new World Champion. FYI, you can find the original interview in japanese here (it's not Smmenen's article translation):

The creator of this deck is Klu (his real name doesn't come into my mind right now).
Jean Baptiste Aymes, one of the best french T1 builder  Wink.

Guttural Response  G or R
Instant   Uncommon
Counter target blue instant spell.
Imo, it's an excelent sideboard card for gush decks not running red mainboard. It gives you an excellent 1st turn answer to fight Flash, and it also counters the most played blue cards in Vintage: Ancestral, Brainstorm, FoW, Misdirection, Gush, Pact, TFK, AK's, etc.. etc...

To me, Guttural Response is a top Vintage card that will see lot of game (in sideboards obviously).
This is a strictly better REB in Belcher, as you can cast it with SSG and ESG, and with Bayou, Tropi or Taiga. The point weakness is it cannot counter Tinker, but who cares if you can cast your Belcher ftw with it?

If everyone seems to think this deck is that ludicrously unfair and good, why play anything else?
Because it's boring?

Any player (included me) played the deck at least one time in tournament. But all the people I know who played the deck (included me), just didn't want to play it anymore.

My most awful souvenir : last December, Tokaido Vintage tournament in Shizuoka, TOP8 : 4 Flash, TOP4 : 3 Flash, Winner : Flash, the 3 rounds took like 90 minutes...

"I got Flash, you got Fow?"
"No"
"Next?"

"I got Merchant to get Flash, you got Fow?"
"Yeah"
"Anyway I got PoN, Next?"....

I don't understand your viewpoint at all. Tournaments are being won and Top8'd by Oath, GAT, R/G Beats, Mask, Shop Aggro, and all manner of archetypes that don't win on the first turn and use creatures and interact and are blasts to play, and you have the audacity to call the format a joke? The format is in a Golden Age.
By the way, side-event of the French Cup was won yesterday by Flash piloted by our French Smennen (aka Toad), and the Vintage side-event of the GP Shizuoka put 3 Flash in Top 8 (4 Flash in total, the 4th dropped out after the 1st round).

BUT, the problem is not to know if Flash is the strongest deck or not, neither if it wins all the tournaments of the world or not. Shock Wave quoted it many times : Flash breaks some basic rules of the game, and it must be punished for that.

Is Flash really as good as it seems?
Flash is only good against people who don't know how to mulligan/play.
According you don't play FoW (well, it happens), what are you supposed to do when you don't play first?

The problem with Flash is not to know wether it's broken or not. The deck is not the best deck ever.

BUT, you can win games and tournaments only by drawing Flash and Hulk. Anyone can do that, no matter you're good or not at Magic, no matter your opponent has the best deck of the world, no matter whatever. And playing against or with the deck is soo boring and frustrating.

Usually, to kill turn 1, you have to face heavy risks, like being screwed by a counter when you play Belcher, or coping with a puzzle in front of you like SX Tendrils, but Flash just ignores these 2 points : you will always have at least one counter, and the only thing to have to do is casting Flash. You can win without effort and with a lot of back-up.

Remember Legacy? The card was banned not because the deck won every tournaments but because it warped the metagame so heavily : everybody had to play 4 Leyline to hope having a chance against it... So fun...
