Some article love for Scholar's
Scholar's Books & Games a centerpiece for local Vintage Magic community

Also, while I was up at the ROE Prerelease in Boston, I spoke with many different people about coming down.  A group of four friends from MIT were particularly interested, and hopefully they'll come down this next month.

Why did you post this exact topic here and MTGSalvation?

Not everyone here may visit the forums there.

Also this is the Vintage community, and it's relevant to everyone here

I'm sure everyone here would love to see the value of their lotus rise (I know I would Wink )

Full Story   (NOT a link to auction)

Does anybody think this will actually sell?

There is a "best offer" option...I wonder how low the seller will go.

Consider when one purchases a house they can usually get $20-$30K of the asking price.

Personally I think It'll go somewhere in the 70 range

There could have been 19 players this week if Eric, Andy, and Jesse were able to attend.

With the rising amount of players, the prize pool is certainly starting to look better for those who may not have attended in the past due to their distance.  IMO any Vintage player within a 45 min drive should come out.

I heard a rumor that Brandon Jones-- arguably the best shops player in the world (seriously, arguably, its a really fun argument to have with him)-- may start coming on monday.
The more the merrier Smile

I think there were 16 tonight, lets get that number growing (along with the prize pool ! ).

Playing against skilled opponents makes you more talented.

It's the ultimate meta-game deck
9  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [Card Discussion] Dispel on: January 26, 2010, 03:15:31 pm
I think one shouldn't compare Dispel to Red Elemental Blast, because one isn't limited to just blue spells to counter.

Dispel begs to be compared to Disrupt

Now, Disrupt is a card that has seen *some* play from time to time due to being a cantrip.

Dispel is a hard counter, and unlike REB, it can counter other colored instants, such as Vampiric Tutor, in addition to the normal blue "auto include" cards in Vintage.

Gave you guys a little exposure, hopefully you get a couple more players.

I feel that Vintage itch - probably will get in on the action in the next couple weeks

I can't remember if I read that they had decided not to put any reserved cards in ftv: exiled because ftv: dragons did not.

The reprint policy says they can print premium foils (like they currently do with the judge rewards)

That doesn't stop them from putting Null Rod into ftv: relics

If not a ftv, then I suspect it will not be too long until they come up with a name of a new series.  They just released a "premium deck series", and the foil shards boosters are on the way.

Has anyone here played the Decipher Star Wars game?  Remember the "Enhanced Cloud City" packs that had a few boosters and a promo card on top?

There is no reason they couldn't make a $20 product with 3 boosters and 1 reprint card - such as Null Rod.

There are a lot of different ways they could release promos without them being judge rewards....its just a matter of time.

gah...now I want to bust out all my old Star Wars cards and play a game.....Any Methods Necessary!
12  Eternal Formats / Creative / Balance's Slot in 4cc on: August 04, 2004, 02:43:55 am
On Balance - There have been many times when I've thought about cutting it from the deck becuase I would draw it during a game and find it useless, however the vast majority of those times I was in a winning position anyway.  However for those few times I do use it, Balance completely turned the game around, reminding me why I play with it.  As Zherbus posted earlier, the sheer number of decks Balance hurts is also what makes it such a great card.  While you may not use it the vast majority of your games (which you should be in a winning position), when you do use it you probably wouldn't have gotten out of that position without it.

On cutting STP - I'm a firm believer in 2 md STP and 3 md Fire/Ice (with 1 of each in the board).  I'm in a heavy aggro/workshop/fish enviornment and that combination just works for me.  If you cut swords you leave yourself very vulnerable to dragon (this is very much still out there), a match you will normally win will but will be less favorable by far without a 1st game stp.  STP is an invaluable tool in combatting 1st turn Goblin Lackeys (when you are playing second).  Also, in the 4cc mirror you need to deal with opposing angels (although after sb these should become redblasts).  Swords is useful in almost every matchup, just as balance is, and I wouldnt cut either though I understand why you would do so.

Your opponent can simply play around it by destroying it at the end of your turn, and who really plays with hannas custody?
